Maxxxworld reacted to Rpen in Full Screen Preview.
Tab seems to be a way to continue working on the document without the side panels. Using Tab, the top menu bar is still visible, and if Rulers are on, they are also visible. If the image happens to be the same size as the screen, going 1:1 won't show the entire image because of these extra widgets. So Tab is no replacement for a simple FullScreen view. And going 1:1 doesn't quite solve the rendering problem because unless I turn on Pixel view mode I will still see the working design lines, not rendered output. Then I'll have to turn off Pixel view mode to get back to editing.
I understand the complications of fullscreen in a document with multiple artboards, but in my opinion, only the current artboard need be shown fullscreen. The concept is to quickly and easily see the particular image being worked on, rendered as if a PNG, without surrounding widgets. It is not a request to make a FullScreen Edit Workspace. The Tab view works fine for that, and personally I wouldn't want to get rid of the side panels at all if I could just get the fullscreen preview.
So, to repeat for clarity: if the image is smaller than the screen, it should render 1:1 in the center of the display, with a black background. No frame. No buttons. No labels. Nothing but the image. (I suppose the background color could be set in Preferences). If the image is larger than the display, it should be scaled to fit, and if the aspect ratio is different, any non-image area should be the background color. I suppose some people might want a larger document to be rendered 1:1 as well, and the mouse could drag the rendered view as needed. Perhaps the mouse wheel could even be used to zoom the rendered view. It depends on how much work you want to put into this, but for me the simple fullscreen render first mentioned would be enough.
ps. Thanks for being. Great software. Great forum.

Maxxxworld reacted to firstdefence in How to create this distorted stroke in AD?
    Create a custom brush.

Use the Pencil Tool to draw a rough shape.  drag a guide out and place it roughly in the middle of the shape so you get a feel for how the stroke will be applied Tweak the nodes with the Node Tool (A) Now Export it as a png file no background and remember where you saved it Now go to the Brushes Panel and Create a New Category then Rename the New Category Now create a New Textured Image Brush and import that shape you exported Apply it to the shape and tweak the brushes settings You may have to create multiple brushes to get it right but at least you learn a new skill and will have brushes galore lol!

I use AP to design ads for my job. These get published in Guitar and Bass magazines. Working with text, masks, and images are a breeze. This design focuses on a particular model we make, and the image portrays the different looks a customer can achieve.

Any constructive criticism is appreciated, as I'm a total novice at this.

Maxxxworld reacted to Jurgen in raw image luminosity calculation still inaccurate with Affinity Photo
    Hello,

I noticed with the previous release of Affinity photo an extremely low level of luminosity values in raw files and I reported it here - as for Release 1.6.7 it was announced that raw processing had been reviewed I was hoping that the situation had improved but it hasn't.
Attached are 2 screenshots, one from Affinity photo and a second from another raw processing application. The exposure reading of the camera for this photo was -0.7, I purposely underexposed slightly. As you can see all automatic application of s-curves etc was switched off in both applications. The other app reads the exposure value correctly whereas Affinity Photo still displays a histogram that is underexposed by several stops. This is not an academic issue, in order to make that image publishable I would need to boost exposure by a large number of stops which would introduce a lot of noise which when using the other raw processing app would not be necessary.
It would be great if you can look into this seriously. I do not think that the issue is with my camera (Sony A7 R II). I love your application a lot so I want to use it for the entire process and not develop raw files in a different app and then reload the tif images into Affinity Photo for further correction.

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just feel like I got a whole Brand New Program just now, BRO! If you could have seen the look on my face when I discovered the icon / assets list LOL, like I was 10 yrs old on xmas and I just got a daisy rider BB-Gun LMAO Best $50 I ever spent LOL Ok so the boolean operation sounds very technical but I'd like to give it a shot. Because if I am designing a bird that has like 200 feathers I'd much prefer they be on the same object layer especially if I am adding to my brand newly discovered vector library  Could you point me to a tutorial? Thank you again! Loving this program so far :-)

@Maxxxworld Some nice photo's on your instagram

@SteveSmith I'm one of those viewers who always grumbles under his breath when I get crap images of products, so I know where you are coming from wanting to get the best image viewable.
Taking images at a smaller resolution before compression is a good choice, there is no point in creating information that is going to be thrown away. This prevents unnecessary compression so you are losing less and retaining more. Considering the world today 100Kb is not a very realistic size for FB to be touting. Personally I would focus more on retaining quality and less on file size, then upload the images and see what happens, if the images look good go and have a Tea and a biccy and have a pat on the back moment

I think 960px is fine for viewing, I don't think 2048px gives you anything more, also remember that a lot of people view on laptops @ 1366 x768 or something like that and will have not much more that a 15.6" screen, Desktopers will have the same or a bit more, and that screen will be set at 1080 x 1920. So, a 2048px image viewed at 100% is going to have to be scrolled. Obviously there are gamers with the mandatory 3 screens at 32" and us Apple bunnies with 27" and retina but the majority will be fine with 960px and even 720px

Over the past periods, various users (including myself) have put in questions, feature requests and what not a number of times in the forums pertaining to the Ruler & Guides.
Particularly the moveable zero point of the rulers, and the color of the guides has been an issue from the first version of Affinity Designer & Photo.

Unfortunately until now, apparently with the release of a new MAS version imminent, it appears these issues have not been solved yet.
I realise that it will take a lot of developer's work, but it is truly a serious drawback in using the programs.

Nevertheless, I respectfully re-submit my -and others' - remarks about the Drawing Aids, in the hope that they will be updated ASAP.

    Here they are :

    RULERS :

Moveable zero point. This would also go a ways to answering the feature request for a measuring tool.

    GUIDES :
Choice of color, so as to be able to set a contrasting color to one's work.
Lock / Unlock guides with the move tool,  irrespective of tool being used
Adjust guides already set with the move tool, irrespective of tool being used.

    GRID :
Choice of color ( for the same reason as the guides)
Perspective grid : drag points (Horizontal  or Vertical simultaneously.

    Thank you.

Maxxxworld reacted to MEB in ICC profiles and rendering intent in PDF/X-3
    Hi Martin Brooks,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
The depressed (darker) button is the one that's selected. When you select Assign and press OK you are assigning a new colour profile to the image and as such the colours on the image change to reflect the new profile (the original colour values/numbers are kept). When you select Convert you are converting an existing profile to another, which will "map" the existing colours to their closest possible match in the new profile meaning there's usually little or no change in the image appearance/colors (depending on the profiles).

    Hi Pebowski,
Please launch the app with ⌃(ctrl) held down until a Clear User Data dialog appears. Remove the ticks for Don't restore window and documents and Reset Studio. Leave only Clear User Defaults checked then press Clear. This should (hopefully) fix your issue. Let me know if not.

Maxxxworld got a reaction from Le Minh Thanh in Mock up: Placing a label around a bottle
@MEB I would like to have the flat Label as Symbol origin and transform it into one perspective view in AD, as shown on the photo.
If I change some details on Symbol origin, it should change on perspective view too. On the same way I can simulate folding boxes as shown in att. video.
Not as rectangle box, but as cylinder (Bottle).

But how to make a single non-destructive mesh or preset that´s geometrically correct and replicable?
I can do it only in AP als PIXEL and not in AD where the vector graphics origin?
    I´m right?

If you can parameterise the transformation (which should not really be difficult if you are happy with the algebra), then you could create the necessary wrapped image usng Filter > Distort > Equations. If you could post a full-size version of your label I could have a go.

Maxxxworld reacted to John Rostron in Mock up: Placing a label around a bottle
I have used Filter > Distort > Equations to transform your label. I first cropped of those parts that would be  invisible, then Rasterized it. This is necessary to set the actual dimensions to the cropped dimensions. I then added some space above and below the label. This allows room for any perspective curvature. I then went to Filter > Distort > Equations and applied the following equations:
    x=(asin(2*x/w-1)*w/180)*pi/2+w/2
    y=x-0.4*h*x*(w-x)/w/w
The 0.4 is a scaling factor for the curvature at the top of the label. This could be positive or negative depending on which way you want it to curve. Note that there are transparent areas at the top centre and the bottom corners. This is what it looks like:

But when you use AP, it rasterizes the layer. What we are asking for is for the layer to stay vector when warped, etc.
