How to avoid clickbaiting threads?
thomaso replied to thomaso's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
This would nudge a thread to visible as soon the troll successfully made other users response and start a conversation with him. To me the filtering appears not useful if a thread gets nudged as soon a non-ignored user posted, I'd prefer an option to make it never being nudged (compare the "unfollow"-option for threads, not users). -
How to avoid clickbaiting threads?
thomaso replied to thomaso's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Yes, it would be a compromise only and not cover all desired situations – but it might make it easier for some users at least, instead of for none. Different to a technical new feature solution which first needs to get developed, implemented, updated and activated, a manual thread move could be technically managed right now. You still misunderstand: I mentioned the hide-thread-by-user feature not as a solution but as an example among other already existing filter options available for readers. (while the existing hide option might hint to possible synergy effects when developing/implementing code for a new hiding feature) Yes, but different to closing or hiding/deleting a thread (which recently caused complaints + a further thread by the affected thread creator), moving a thread would be a 'softer' interaction and might avoid arguing like the recent about censoring called "sound of silence". -
Farbabweichung beim Import
thomaso replied to zuiui's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
How to avoid clickbaiting threads?
thomaso replied to thomaso's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
It seems you misunderstood my quoted point "... or the option to hide a thread by its initial creator. ... ". I referred to the existing option for thread creators to hide their own thread while the thread's disappearance affects the entire forum for all users. – It did not mean an option to hide any thread (or posts of a certain user) for everybody, as the option "shadow banning" appears to do, the thread / post creator excepted. Interestingly your linked discussion is rather short and contains posts of 2017 + 2019, then got closed for further responses. Also the google-search results seem to link to rather old discussions or articles and thus possibly outdated today (… while a 2022 link seems to mention the problem but without results) Also the other mentioned feature "timeout" may be avoided by trolling users with the mentioned workaround of simply generating one or more new forum member accounts which may then be used to generate the impression of 'interest' in a discussion started by one of them. (let's see what the two brand-new members and "Sign Post" fans will post next). – While a "timeout" feature appears to be auto-active for new forum members already (limiting their max. number of posts per day), for older ones this may not necessarily reduce the trolling posts but might simply spread them over a longer period of time even if set to max. one per day. Since "shadow banning" and "timeout" are either not available in Invision and/or inefficient I wonder if an extra subforum e.g. "Miscellaneous" would help to reduce the number of trolling threads if moved by Serif to that area. It would make it easier for all forum members to choose or avoid their display in some of the available list views of threads. It could contain other rather off-topic threads like "crossword", "sign post" and this thread or occasional discussions about forum separation by apps. Unfortunately, it would require additional moderator decisions and actions. -
How to avoid clickbaiting threads?
thomaso replied to thomaso's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I didn't expect an automated spam filter for these kind of threads but rather an individual user setting like implemented by Invision already for individual notifications (follow/unfollow and email options) or the option to hide a thread by its initial creator. I had a similar feature in mind that enables a user to hide a thread individually in their browser, not affecting anybody else. Obviously the team of moderators does helpful control already (e.g. move, split, warn, close) while those actions don't need to be executed as immediate, fully continuous/permanent tasks. But you are right, additional actions would mean additional work for the moderators, unfortunately. -
Import ical
thomaso replied to Christer Hellholm's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Why iCal in particular? You can rename the suffix of your iCal file to .txt and open that in APub – but the result won't be very satisfying because it seems to contain a lot more data (regarding the iCal app and interface?) than you might want to use in your text frames in APub. For database-like content, APub has some compatibility with more common file types such as .xls or .csv, which are also used for APubs' Data Merge feature. It appears that you can convert your iCal file to .csv using various tools: convert ical to csv A forum search for "calendar" lists many threads about calendar layout in APub. Some offer their result as Affinity document or link to calendar generator apps that could be used for APub layouts. For instance: -
How to avoid clickbaiting threads?
thomaso replied to thomaso's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Yes, these repeated threads appear like disturbing, frequently updated advertisements for products that don't fit well with the topics of the Affinity Forum. They have the attitude to be endless and may get nudged for years, just by adding any other idea to discuss while a minimal aspect of "creation" or "work" and to Affinity can get implemented in every possible topic, word, idea or picture of the universe. Other threads that exceeded a certain state of discussion value or quality got stopped from getting nudged by closing them for further responses. I am aware that closing one might motivate to generate other threads with slightly differing words. Moderating / limiting actions may even generate new user profiles for an impression of public or lively interest in an idea (compare "Sign Post software"). However, moderating interruption can be inevitable to maintain a forums quality and to avoid meta-discussions about discussions (this thread included). -
Note, it is not required to switch the APub layout document: there is a (slightly hidden) export option for single page export, named (slightly confusing) "Area" > "All Pages". While the colour space & profile also may get set in the export dialog, with a profile switch it gets tricky for 100 K which may be the expected print colour for black text. If your APub layout was initially created in RGB then black text will get printed with C+M+Y+K … unless the text style colour definitions get set to 100 K after the space / profile switch and before export.

How to avoid clickbaiting threads?
thomaso replied to thomaso's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Is there indeed no way to stop the thread(s) containing multiple repeated opinions about "work", "frame", "Bing AI", "hope", "interesting" etc., meanwhile with a discussion about the meaning of "troll", from getting nudged to the top in the forums list view? There always will be different ideas also of "art", "creativity", "work" or 'worth' and 'value'. A troll does not judge its posts as trolling like any matter of "opinion" or 'taste' includes a wide range forever. -
JPEG quality difference
thomaso replied to irandar's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
As I mentioned various times, yes, I see differences in colour, in contrast, in amount of details. But until now I thought that the JPG is the Affinity export and the screenshot.PNG is taken from Preview. It seems to be unclear from the beginning: it made you ask me whether I did switch / rename your files for my common screenshot of both moon files including their file names: I still wonder how the label "Soften Structure" (in a rounded rectangle) came to the blurry version of the moon and I still don't understand why you think I did mix the names, though I also can't imagine you see the quality in this two images opposite to me. (you can download your uploads to check them) – unless you view / compare / screenshot at a zoom level other than 100% pixel size. To me the confusion began with your initial post: you wrote about two JPGs + one screenshot: While I would expect better quality from an APh export than from a two-step version of screenshot -> export you seem to expect it vice versa. Now back again: You write about downloaded files. Does it mean you downloaded them and if yes where from? Or do you refer to your uploaded files and just call it downloaded erroneously? Also now, in your last post, you ask about a colour difference, while you wrote recently there would be no colour difference: So again I recommend to make your uploads more clear: screenshots should show parts of the interface of the viewing app. And exports need to be named more clear. The file names in your last uploads seem to indicate that the JPG was an export while the other is named "screenshot" but you still did not tell what application did the export (I assumed it was Affinity). If the export was from Affinity then your last post is confusing/contradicting when it says: "color change between jpeg and Affinity." Does this mean that this time the screenshot is from Affinity and the export from Preview? If yes, from what file was the export in Preview done? And in what zoom level was the screenshot displayed? As mentioned before: Preview has a preference for zoom level and display size. Make sure you use the option that shows real pixel size, regardless of resolution/dpi/print size. Your preference dialog window in Preview might have a different design but I assume the option exists, too: Also I recommend to upload your files packed together in a .ZIP, this will avoid the change to metadata by the forum software (e,g. stripping the creator app and the colour profile) and recompressing. And I still think it may be useful that you show your colour profile settings, in both macOS and Affinity. -
The KPD preview spread looks strange, it shows 4 page numbers and two spines for this spread, as if each preflight page got a layout spread placed. Did you upload the PDF with single pages or with spreads? Also the total number of 79 appears wrong, I assume it should be 80 at least (a number divisible by four). I can't talk about the margin complaints (I never used KPD) and don't know if these are serious issues for the preflight or recommendations only. Since your document has bleed set I'd assume the margin is not mandatory (otherwise bleed wouldn't be required). The forum has various threads of users with KPD preflight errors, maybe a forum search sheds more light on this. In case you have to adjust the picture frame size or position you should be able to do this for all frames on their according master page/spread.
-
Unfortunately not. There is also no modifier key option to click-select an object inside a master page layer for temporary editing, instead you always need to select the parent master page layer first to activate the "detach" state for its child layers. And if you have several master layers applied you need to "detach" them individually (unless one master is nested in the other).

Initially you asked for an option of the burn brush tool which is a pixel editor. Alternatively you can use a vector shape, it is easier to handle, non-destructive and can be used to darken an area or as masking element. As far I know in V2 are some more options for nested vector objects / for adjustment masks in the workflow mentioned by @NotMyFault. The V1 examples below use colour + opacity + blend mode 'multiply' only, they could get combined with adjustment layers.

Book cover settings using Affinity
thomaso replied to mdesigns's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
If I understand right you already have imported the images – that's why they now can be reported as 'missing'. As soon you place an image (or PDF or Affinity document etc) resource it gets either embedded or linked, according to your document setting. Once it got placed it appears as an entry in the Resource Manager. There you can toggle between 'linked' and 'embedded', can relink to another resource folder or replace a selected resource with another of same file type. The Affinity Help probably lists more details.- 22 replies

I am not sure what visual result you want to achieve. If you consider what "burn" does a workaround could be to paint gray colour with a wanted opacity + blend mode. You have opacity options for the brush + the colour + the layer and blend mode options for the brush and the layer.

Book cover settings using Affinity
thomaso replied to mdesigns's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Yes. – You have various options to create copies of your data, "embedding" and "package" are just two Affinity options. (If wanted you can embed all resources with 1 click via the Resource Manager). Other options are 'local copy' or 'external backup'. Note that a package in the same folder / on the same volume may also get affected from data loss in case of issues with the volume or drive. So it is wise to use another hardware for safety copies, while a common file format may be more compatible in the future than a special file type like embedded in / packed as Affinity file.- 22 replies

Try an internet search. There are also websites specialised for software archives. And there is even an archive website just for archives of former websites. -
Spotcolor and tones
thomaso replied to Eisbar's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Unless there was an improvement in V2 it is impossible and discussed in the forum a few times. Not only spot colour tints also RGB or CMYK tints may result for any of the "Add Chord to Swatch" options in the Colours Panel as swatches in a different colour space/mode than expected. A bug report for CMYK tint swatches in macOS: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=afd-3236 For spot colours it is also known that Affinity doesn't allow to mix them, e.g. to create a colour swatch made of two spot colours. Also known irritations with swatch & colour definitions may be related. -
JPEG quality difference
thomaso replied to irandar's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I can't follow, to me it sounds contradictory. Not necessarily for Apple's Preview.app which has a preference setting for either/or and thus may show different sizes for 100% zoom level. However, resolution does not seem to be the relevant part in this thread about "JPG quality difference", screenshot vs. export, colour or/and contrast. -
What device do you use for painting? Touch screen | touch pad | graphic pen | mouse | … ? Again: • Is a button pressed while painting + still pressed when hovering over the panel? • Or got it released + pressed again? • And what cursor icon is displayed when the panel/tab moves: brush or arrow? What error message or result does the forum window display? You can try to export / recompress the video (.mov) with the Quicktime.app to another format / file size, then try the upload again: https://support.apple.com/guide/quicktime-player/qtp20e395859/mac

JPEG quality difference
thomaso replied to irandar's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Again: from which application? Which confuses me, since you appeared to consider/judge/see the screenshot as better quality than the exported jpg – while to me their qualities appear opposite. Note, a screenshot can take different data than you see on screen (you can do a screenshot of a defect monitor without shooting the defect / you can screenshot an image successfully from an external monitor if it is plugged but switched off (displays black). So we might need to see all your colour profile settings, in macOS and Affinity preferences + Affinity document + Affinity export. The Preview.app > Info panel reports to me for your screenshot "iMac" as profile name. Is this a default system/Apple profile for your hardware or is it a custom named profile or one from a different hardware or system? The resolution differs between the export and the screenshot: JPG: 96 dpi | PNG: 72 dpi. – To compare without the need to set different zoom levels: Make sure both get created with the same resolution. -
Book cover settings using Affinity
thomaso replied to mdesigns's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Apart from the dashed line that indicates Facing Pages (which wouldn't be useful for the cover): Don't trust the preview. Just confirm the dialog + check the created document with the rulers or extra rectangles created on the page with the Transform Panel. There are known issues (logged bug?) for V2 in a dialog window of document properties that confuses the user with wrong or unclear dimensions and page orientation.- 22 replies

In this case possible difficulties may increase when the Fill/Gradient Tool and its "Bitmap Fill" gets used that you and @firstdefence mentioned before. Its limited interface for pattern creation with reduced visual and missing numerical control may cause more issues or questions than just the "force pixel aligned" setting. – So a user who wants to use "Bitmap Fill" may need quite more hints for a pixel perfect workflow than this @GuineaPig's thread currently seems to require. https://affinity.help/publisher2/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Tools/tools_gradient.html?title=Gradient Tool https://affinity.help/publisher2/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Clr/gradientEditor.html?title=Gradient and bitmap fills Personally I would rather recommend NOT to use the Fill/Gradient Tool and "Bitmap Fill" for such a task, just because it could require more precision than the tool interface offers to the user. Instead it may work well to create a pattern artwork with other features like "Move Data Entry", "Symbol" (AD), "Symmetry" (AD, for pixel) … which may exceed this or another thread about "How to fill a shape with an image" but would rather meet "How to create seamless pattern".
