  1. Is this meant to be a question? If yes, then, yes, you can vary output quality, regardless whatever quality or using is required. Ok, I won't tell you to upgrade. But may I tell you that InDesign CS6 runs charming up to macOS 10.12.6 (Sierra)? If not, don't tell me
  3. @k_au, the color space view in the Colour Panel depends on your selection in its pull-down menu, unless you have deactivated the lock (then it shows the initial space of the swatch). Means the Colours Panel can show the values of a swatch in every color space. That would be great indeed, at least as tool-tip (to avoid long names exeeding the panels space). Unfortunately it was discussed during beta but reported by Serif as "By Design". It is confusing that any newly created swatch gets an auto-name showing true values but the name doesn't get auto-updated when the values get altered. Indeed many users would expect the name showing true values – not just any (possibly former) values as swatch name. It even additionally confuses that the pop-up tool-tip simply repeats the name though one might think at least this additional tool-tip shows true values. Since you seem to be interested in that subject: Could you please take a look at this related topic which has no response yet: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/91809-colour-panel-add-chords-– cmyk-not-working/
  4. Jon, thank you for testing and reporting. I am calmed down that your times come out similar to mine. (I had been wondering whether something goes wrong here to me, when you had mentioned before "less than a minute" for 200 pages incl. images.) The RGB print preset time is not really a problem for me though I am indeed interested to understand whats going on – especially since there is no difference at all in your tests when using the web export preset instead.
  5. @Jon P, could you already test the export times with my uploaded files? Or is there any new insights into these different times between RGB and CMYK for identical content in a document with the same color space as the exported one?
  6. As Mofab says, in both InDesign and AfPublisher you do not need to convert a resource file externally to a specific color space before import. (Those years are far away, at least 20 years). In InDesign I got warned when importing a file with a different than the documents color space and I was asked how to handle it. In Afpub there is some kind of similar interface but it appears to do nothing yet. One place is the Application "Preferences..." > "Colour", in particular these options: Another is in "Document Setup..." (for existing documents only): I never could experience a difference in any of those Warning or Assign/Convert settings. I never have noticed a warning. Maybe someone can shed some light on the right use of this?
  7. It is reported as bug for the mac beta v420: In PDF 1.7 (print preset) black does NOT overprint at any setting. In PDF/X-3 it works according to the setting.
  8. Even with the default print preset, which has "Black overprint" activated in its Export > More options AND with additionally using a 100 K overprinting swatch none of the blacks do overprint. Screenshot AfPub, the middle line has overprinting K assigned: Export as PDF 1.7 with default preset for print (has ticked "overprint" export option): None of the 2 blacks do overprint. (K channel disabled in this screenshot) : Whereas it works with PDF/X-3, both with ticked and unticked overprint export option as expected. Black Overprint ticked (= on): both black swatches do overprint: Black Overprint off (= unticked): Only the global overprinting black swatch does overprint:
  9. Jens, I noticed occasionally 3 unexpected reasons for enormous PDF file size: 1. Document color set to 16 bit –> resulted in uncompressed images 2. Font issues –> resulted in doubled text frames in PDF: in the foreground as text in the background copy as curved. 3. .afpubs not created in AfPub but from imported / opened PDFs. Worth to look at possibly. If you like, upload a test .afpub with pieces of you affected .afpub. I'd like to look at it. Also a few pages of the huge PDF would be interesting to look at.
  10. That's exactly the point. You can't think it because you never have worked this way. – Imagine these global layers: In AfPub I placed these layers on a master page to have them on all document pages – even though I don't need them on a master page, because I have different content on all document pages. But to place these layers on a master page is in AfPub the only way to get them on every documents page. Okay, it works so far. I didn't want to create these layers only but also want to set one of them invisible for the moment. Let's say the layer for German text. Now I go to document page 1 with the goal to place content. There my layers look like this at first: Just a master folder. I expand this layers folder to create a first object on page 1 on one of the layers, let's say, I want to write text on the layer for English text. Therefore I select the layer for English text ... ... and create a text frame with some text: I must have done something wrong because it does not appear in the selected layer but on top of all my layers. Hm. So I try to move it down where it belongs to: Unfortunately here is the end of the game. My text frame appears over all layers, and I can not place, insert, move, or create an object on page 1 in the English layer, BECAUSE that layer was created on a master, - but I had to create it on a master to make it available on all document pages AND make it invisible or visible from one place. So, therefore, a layered master page is not a substitute for global layers. Only with global layers can layer properties be set for ALL document pages at the same time; visibility, exportability, printability or just locking.
  11. Workaround: In case you can split your workflow into Drawing the shapes and Designing the pattern, then a CAD construction application might be useful. For construction software it is an requirement to know all sorts of measurements and in high precision. 2D apps are easier to handle than 3D, some are free. Some are especially for clothing pattern.
  12. Thank you for clearing this up. – I must have been confused by some topics of the last months in the AfPhoto suggestions: How to simulate Lightroom's “texture” effect [June 29] How to define aspect ratio? [Dec 29] How to improve brush shortcuts for mouse and tablet use [June 7] How to read EXIF data from a .afphoto document [May 28] How to modify default values / resize document? [Apr 24] How to get a bigger brush preview in Affinity Photo? [Mar 20] Maybe it could just be colored dots, similar to the colored, application related forum titles that are used for search results:
  13. Good point. Currently, if I widen the window to left or right, the column "Placed DPI" becomes wider – instead of the "Name" column, the only column which can have longer content. Concerning panel layout I'd like to go a bit further: replace the words in the column "Placement" with icons, for instance an empty circle for linked, a filled circle for embedded and a circle with a red cross for missing. show "Placed DPI" in the list overview, not below in single selected details only. This will make it easy to detect low-res (layout) images. replace the column "Placement" by "Placed DPI". keep showing the file path. It can be helpful to know where a resource is stored, for instance in a folder which contains low-res images, or in a network volume. crop long names before their suffix (longnamewith....jpg) or add a label showing the file type. add a button "Reveal in Finder" (Explorer).
  14. In AfPublisher you have ... – the "Spread Setup..." (via tool bar or right-click on page icon in "Pages Panel") and – the "Constraints Panel" (if it's about IDs Liquid Layout). You can not rotate a single page view in AfPublisher. You can rotate the complete document view around 90º, 180º and 270º. (in AfDesigner you can rotate the complete design area in steps of 15º).
  15. Why "no"? And why "simply old"? – It still exists and still can be filled, right? According to the description you quoted it sounds perfect for any AfPhoto-only topic. The key point is that people are using it for all sorts of topics related to AfPhoto. Just read the recent topics and you'll see: there it is All in One + Exclusiv for AfPhoto, as requested here from the TO and his/her agreers.
  16. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/55-feedback-for-affinity-photo-on-desktop/ This forum section is titled to be for AfPhoto only. It is used for questions ("how to?"), complaints ("not working") and feature requests. – What else do you need?
  17. What do you mean with "export to PDF (text only)" ? I have never seen this option on PDF export in any app. Therefore I am lost with this hint. Unfortunately saved as "normal" PDF and placed as linked resource would bring its own layout AND one text frame per line in AfPub. Whereas opening a PDF in AfPub gives me the option to keep text paragraphs in frames together – but then I can't make it linked to get it updated if changed. It is a pity that I can't place text file as linked yet. (though an update of a linked text would probably override the assigned styles)
  18. Oh, you might be a bit over-interpreting the intention behind the given answers. – I DO definitely MISS a word count feature AND i don't understand why it is not available already because it is not very complex to program, imho. BUT I am a bit tired of new topics which are repeating existing topics instead using the existing ones to make clear at 1 place how many users yearn for it. And, also I am tired of reading again and again complaints of Page Plus users about Affinity being different and forcing them to be flexible thinking and learning its new interface, new features and new way to work possibly etc. – So, it comes, instead of writing this as first reaction to your "Where is ...?"-question I rather preferred to try it with a bit of humor instead. Not at all making fun of you or your desire but of words and language which definitely counts. About your recent question (which is so long that I hardly understand it): AfPublisher is neither a text editor nor an editing system but a layout application. Therefore word count simply hasn't been a primary goal yet. But wonderfully other features got implemented, which haven't been in Page Plus, didn't they?
  19. You can switch its nodes direction first to switch the start and end node. Feel free to try out and play around with the UI of your application.
  20. Or, bit more simple, with the Move tool (black arrow, shortcut V) drag a rectangle which touches * both objects to select them – and then switch to the Node tool (shortcut A). Advantage of selection with Move tool: the Node tool demands to click twice + exactly on both single objects path. It and does not allow to select by dragging. * you can set in application preferences whether dragging selects an object if it gets touched only or needs to be covered completely by the drag action.
  21. Agree. I even would not mind to merge some forums: Currently one has the choice between up to 10 forum sections to look for a solved issue, for an answer or to post a question to a specific application. For instance Affinity Photo: Affinity Support & Questions Feedback for Affinity Photo on Desktop Feedback for the Affinity Suite of Products Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts Tutorials (Serif and Customer Created Tutorials) ... furthermore: Share your work Resources ... and last but not least: Report a Bug in Affinity Photo Resolved Photo Bugs ... not to mention: Affinity Photo Beta Forums
  22. A forums split, or even splits of splits, would not reduce but rather increase the user input issue of not describing a topic useful and unambiguously and into its according forum. As less topics appear in a forum as less there seems to be seen a need to text clear and specific. Topics like "Help!", "Does not work" or "Print", "Fonts", "Line spacing", "Find and replace text", etc. are not very meaningful and do not distinguish between Apps nor between problem and How-to... . AfPublisher is a good example: From its first day after retail release the amount of topics in the Bug section increased massive towards the Beta. Many writers of them did not care at all whether their text is related to a application issue or a user bug. User with more willing before writing to do a search or think a bit more what they are actually got stuck in and in detail right now, would make it easier for everybody. At least by mentioning "How to" or simply use a "?" for questions for instance. In very most topics there is a lot of unused space in the title of the topic. Purposely? Panic, stress? Or listless- and laziness? It is more in the hands of the user to keep the forum clear and easy to navigate, as it depends on the number of forum sections.
  23. @Alfred, doesn't it exist already? – Graph and Gräfin (pixel persona, friendly to Count):
