UI Table Formats :: names not readable / covered by icons
thomaso replied to thomaso's topic in V1 Bugs found on macOS
When trying to create a small file from the affected document I run into a known issue with the new saved file: it's size stays at 33 MB, even with 1 page only and no content at all. (I had reported and uploaded already but I haven't read a result yet) To avoid to upload that large file again I created a new .afpub and copied/pasted two tables with these styles assigned. It comes out that The new document shows an icon for the Default table style in normal look. A new custom created format has a normal icon look, too. The weird icon seems to be related to one specific table format only. I also checked various .afpubs, those I created from scratch, some downloaded from the forum. Most of them have the Default table format only, some of them look to be fin, some look same weird. Therefore a attach a .zip (2 MB) with 3 .afpubs + screenshots with their icons. One .afpub is mine, the others are recently downloaded from the forum. table format weird icons issue.zip -
Setting up a greyscale document is ...

Good point – but actually the document color space profile should not create the output problem, because a conversion to pure print greyscale can be done on export with an according profile (as yours for instance). The major issue here is in my opinion that the default preset for PDF/X-3 does not respect the "Gray/8" "D-50" document color space. It shows in its default setting no entry for an export profile and creates an Output indent "U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 (Custom)". To get a real K-only grayscale PDF you need to manually select a grayscale profile for export : – or, simplier of cause, indeed work already in the according document color space with no need to care about export profiles: -

When I export your .afpub as PDF/X-1a then it results in a file with no printing color at all: every channel has 0 % ink. To get an extra channel "White" you need to define your color as spot color: That way you get 100% ink of your spot color: It does not depend on this color whether it becomes overprinted. – Or do you mean overprinting? If you define a color as overprinting then it will not knock-out any color printed underneath but gets printed on them, additionally. Depending on the used inks (offset or silk?) you might get a sort of transparency in the White, – whereas it remains pure White if it is NOT defined as overprinting. You need to make your choice in the moment you define the color, unfortunately you can not edit this property afterwards (same for Spot property).

Hi Matthias J, Welcome to the Affinity forums! Yes, it's requested several times. They also call it "global layers". Which, by the way, are not to mix up with layers on Master pages, like some dislikers try to make believe the friends of global layers. You can do a forums search for "global layers" to dive into the controversial discussion of quite a few threads already. It sounds to be a work in progress meanwhile ...

I would like to tick on/off an option in the Layers panel to show only the layers of my current Artboard and hide other Artboard Layers in the panel. I would also appreciate if, alternatively, 'unused' Artboard Layers could be set to automatically collapse when I select a different Artboard on canvas. Just as already a corresponding Artboard Layer is automatically opened when I select it on the canvas.

Weight of affinity publisher files.
thomaso replied to radek108's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
by the way: @ radek108, what's going on with data/dates in this of your screenshots, – which says modified BEFORE created ? – and all together 7 years ago as a comparison to an .afpub of 2019 ? : -

Besides their partially very different grades of editability of specific resource file formats, as pointed out by Joachim, I see NEED FOR SPEED as a major reason. If Affinity resources would really just be linked to a resource and would store nothing than its path, then at first opening would take more time, because every resource would need to get read and loaded from scratch. Another reason might be the flexibility you have within Affinity apps via Studio Link – which you don't get in Adobe CS apps. To be prepared for it running smoothly it saves the dates which might be called by the user sooner or later but then immediately. A nice workaround and feature request without losing those advantages for daily use could be the ability to save an Affinity document in a reduced format for archive storage only, without all these handy built-in and saved-in resources information and nothing than resources file paths. (Compare .indd vs. .idml ) [For instance: an .indd with 200 linked jpgs = 43 MB / whereas as .idml = 330 kB. / Means: indd 100 % versus idml 8% ] -
Text wrap problem?

@ Guzzi, du möchtest wahrscheinlich die 1. Option des Pulldown-Menus verwenden. Damit erhältst du ein volle Farbe ohne Verlauf in der Kontur. Indeed, the term contour is confusing to verbally distinguish the two types of gradients. Even the help seems to be aware of this and delivers a special box to explain it: But besides that little issue (assigning works like a charm) I get another occurrence which I suspect to be a bug: Once I have assigned a solid color, the "Colour" preview sticks with this, even if the fill style got changed afterwards. That way it still shows a previously selected solid pink even if a gradient type got assigned:

Do you get this occurrence with every object, global color and/or document? (I don't get this issue here on mac) In my browser your movie looks as if the selected frame does NOT have the global brown assigned but black. Might a corrupted selection be a reason for the issue? If you like upload this page with text frame and your global colors palette to let me see what it does to me.

Smaller PDF Files, please!

Thank you Fixx and Jens. So my guess that the PS font format might be the reason for unwanted auto-curved text on PDF export, is wrong. -
Yes, it sounds contradictory. I think print shops who demand inner bleed = 0 just do cut very exactly. (which is, of cause, technically no problem – and therefore it reduces a need for bleed) To surround the inner bleed issue, some users layout a different version of their document especially for export, where all spreads get separated into single pages. There is even a script for InDesign to switch page arrangement with keeping facing pages, so I guess people need and use it. http://kasyan.ho.com.ua/indesign/all/split_spreads.html For AfPublisher a workaround could be to switch the document from facing to single pages and manually repair those objects which were layout across the spine by placing a duplicate on the other page. Here's another thread about this problem: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/91116-split-spread-to-place-borderless-or-full-page-photos/

In case of "Mitre" and "Gehrung" the solution is quite simple: Just place the text above its field instead of besides it (as it has been used for a former version): Adapted label text style is used already in AfPubs stroke panel for the word "Reihenfolge", which is smaller + some way compressed (bit too much, actually:)

The box of your box text style exceeds the frame because you have set it to do it that way. Note that a box text style can be used with other, non-box styles for various paragraphs within one text frame. Therefore it is not possible to get one (1) correct distance to other frames for boxed AND non-boxed text – but instead for their common frame only. To avoid this behavior you might use different settings than in your screenshot for the text style decoration box indent + the text indent. If you use a same value for text indent and box indent (negative) then your box will not exceed its frame. Without need for math.
