Font Missing
thomaso replied to TimoGElhard's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Oh, sorry, I haven't been aware that it is a mac-only option. -
Since your screenshot shows an image resource being involved and you also get sandbox error messages in the Resource Manager: possibly it is related to some corrupted file in macOS: does this crash on layer-move occur if you work as another user logged in to your mac?

As far I know this value means max. 100% for every single CPU kernel. (theorethically an app process on a mac with 8 kernels can use up to 800 %). Though you have 16 GB of RAM the issue could be a lack of RAM causing the occurrence, for instance if many tasks are running at one time, even if in background, which might need to get compressed and/or written to the Swap area. So you could watch the RAM section in Activity Monitor, to see if it switches while working from green to yellow or red at some time. And if then close other apps or open images to free RAM.

Font Missing
thomaso replied to TimoGElhard's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Yes, we can: p.s.: unfortunately it is still called "Miscellaneous" instead of "Reset" for instance. -
To me it is rather a misunderstanding of a non-intuitive UI navigation than a bug. To get a found item replaced it must be highlighted in the found list. No highlight - no replace. Therefore it looks obvious that not the not-searched text in the find text field gets replaced but the one in the list of found items. However I guess there is a bug because the list keeps findings until document close. No problem so far. But it does not keep the search term AND it seems NOT to replace any found item if the Replace field is empty. That is contradictory. For instance in this situation nothing gets replaced - whereas, according to the Replace entry, I'd expect it to get deleted (=replaced WITH nothing)

Find & Replace - Round 2
thomaso replied to garrettm30's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I wonder what makes you expect to get replaced a not-searched-yet ("find") item. In the movie above it seems to be obvious, that the highlighted result at the moment the "Replace All" gets hit is the found result ("Word 1") – and not the text in the search field (which wasn't searched at all): This becomes more useful with a list of more than 1 result where you don't want get replaced all. Then it is obvious that the software needs to know a specific found item to replace. The UI does highlight that for user/machine communication and confirmation. I agree the way the buttons are placed on same level visually makes it harder and less intuitive how it works. It would be probably easier to understand if the replace buttons would be underneath the found list: -
Stroke Panel error in Publisher Help
thomaso replied to jmwellborn's topic in V1 Bugs found on macOS
By the way, the "Help" makes me sort of helpless because I can't do a search in the Help.app for an expression (but a bunch of words only). For instance a search in the Affinity Help menu for "draw behind fill" does mention "Stroke panel" ... ... whereas a search in the Help.app results in 35 (!) topics but none of them mentions the Stroke Panel, and, after checking a few topic results, none of them appears to mention the search expression in its article (but single words only, probably spread over the text). -
Stroke Panel error in Publisher Help
thomaso replied to jmwellborn's topic in V1 Bugs found on macOS
It appears to be a left-over of a previous help version. In the UI it is called "Order" and mentioned in the help topic below (with quite similar explanation): -
It simply depends on the way you position the layers. If you move a layer underneath and inside another then it gets placed INSIDE, so the stroke of the one above remains visible. If you instead don't place both layers inside one of the other but group them you might get what you want (violet): Whereas for masking a layer you don't need a blend mode "Erase" but simply mask the visible part to hide the other: Note that a stroke of the masking rectangle (above) remains visible where it is congruent with the masked objects edge:

That's even more strange because it would mean, the crash is causing the sandbox errors – or, the error message is an error. What if you, in case of a sudden sandbox error for all images, do not re-link the resources but reboot your mac only? Or if you switch to a different user on your mac and open the file there?

Good to hear it worked for you. Next time you can't find an image in your layout you can select the item in the Resource Manager and click the button "Locate" underneath. That way your page view in main window will jump to that object and select it.

If you are talking about a linked image in an AfPublisher document which you have deleted on disk, then you could ... – delete the image from the layout to get rid of the missing warning. Another way to make it stop could be to – feed it with a new link by using the "Replace" button. If you don't have the initial photo anymore you would link to any other resource of cause – and delete that afterwards/optionally.

No user manual?
thomaso replied to 4711's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Any idea how to get there? I tried with Acrobat Web Capture from a local copy of the help inside the app package – but Acrobat didn't pick the images. The Photo Help PDF info tells to be created with Microsoft Word 2007. My Word opens the single index.html – but does not collect all other pages. -
No user manual?

Any idea where to get a PDF of the Help for Designer and Publisher, too? I find it hard to navigate for details with their whole context in the project-related workbook; it appears more like an eye catcher for first impression than a handy reference to me. -
Ja.

Instead of curved or rasterized text you possibly might prefer another solution/workaround: 1. With the relevant text selected activate the "No break" checkbox in Character Panel > Positioning and Transform. 2. Replace the Non-Breaking Hyphen with a normal. This way it appears to prevent a break, too but without getting the buggy boxes:
-
Not necessarily. As mentioned it also could be a confused data base, either in macOS or Affinity only. In case you still are curios to detect the reason you could ... 1. replace the copy with the failing file again. 2. reboot the mac. 3. test if another app does also produce the issue on PDF export (for instance TextEdit). If not then it's hardly a corrupted font file but rather a data base issue. 4. Then reset font data bases: – at first for Affinity –> if it doesn't solve, then for macOS.

PS File printed from macOS Preview crashes Publisher
thomaso replied to Thomas Ebert's topic in V1 Bugs found on macOS
Maybe it depends on the complexity? Or the creator? – Here is a little postcript file (grey rectangle + blue word), created from an AfPub PDF via 'print' from Preview. It can be placed + edited (text became curved) and opened by AfPublisher without any harm: postcript of pdf-x1a _test.ps -
I am able to export your .afphoto as PDF 1.7 and X-1a (both default presets) without issues from AfPublisher. Business Card Test X-1a.pdf / Business Card Test_v1.7.pdf So it is possibly a font file issue on your computer? Try "Reset Fonts" in the app prefs / or de- and re-activating the font / or test it with the attached copy: DIN Condensed Bold.ttf (version 9.0 from 2017)

Interessant ist, dass GabrielM "has logged this". ("it still shows a previously selected solid pink even if a gradient type got assigned:") <– Kannst du denn diesen Fehler bei dir nachvollziehen?
