Didn't he paint with just a handful of different techniques for quite similar results … mountain, tree, lake, sky ? I assume you are searching for the range of possible workflows in AD, not just some certain brush tool examples, right? You might need to specify your search or request, for instance to specific tools or workflows or certain results. There are just too many techniques and tutorials available that possibly could meet your expectations. If you like the sound of Bob Ross you might also like the Olivio Sarikas, for instance https://youtu.be/RTGknO4JaRY?si=Meur5e88iPliHaXw Also Ally | Affinity Revolution is quite detailed, clear and verbose in her tutorials, e.g. https://youtu.be/L3SKlAgfZDU?si=FV5Pw_bx-kUUnsvr or https://youtu.be/erHdO9oa6qY?si=rB7kM87glkpbNK-G

Formats from other Apps
thomaso replied to BHIP's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
For initial layouts in InDesign: Its exchange file type .IDML can get imported in APub. This transfers the initial master pages, layers, groups, text styles etc. and thus is a more flexible workflow than via PDF for editing. -
Tactics for Tiling?
thomaso replied to sfoster71's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Below a workaround with slices. You need to draw every slice manually, unfortunately it seems you can't copy a slice and the displayed unit in the Transform Panel sticks to pixels, regardless of your ruler setting … but you may enter/type any unit when defining a slice (e.g. "100 mm" or a calculation like "80 cm / 3"). For instance: exported with bleed + print marks, one PDF per slice (below combined in Acrobat to one PDF) The alternative workaround with several artboards requires to copy the layout on every artboard. The artboards don't need to overlap, using bleed is sufficient. -
How to merge text styles?
thomaso replied to elk's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
In V1, I can't reproduce copied text styles by dragging an asset with a saved text style multiple times into a document, neither in the document where style + asset got created nor in a new document. Do you also get a style copy if you duplicate an existing asset within a document or copy/paste that asset from a new document to the other? Can you show the workflow and result in a screencast, including the Asset / Layers / Text Styles panels? -
How to merge text styles?
thomaso replied to elk's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
In V1 this doesn't work and may cause unwanted results. Here the updated style 'A' gets the [No Style] definition set while the currently selected object + its style 'B' are ignored. It appears, to update a saved text style in V1, it needs to have an object or text selected that has this style assigned already (but with local deviation / overriding). Also, for text the option menu Edit -> Paste Style appears not to work, it either pastes the copied text, or the option is grayed-out. (depending on the selection: frame or text) -
It's not about aversion but in this thread rather just about a clear, unambiguous, not misleading answer. (… regardless of the question whether it is 'too' cumbersome to select + merge such multiple layer copies or one better uses the clone brush or other available workflows). Interesting. Do you mean cmd-drag in the layout – or in the Layers Panel? • In case of the first it sounds strange as it seems you move something on the artwork which obviously appears as copy while moving but when you release the mouse button it jumps back to its initial position? • In case of the latter it would be good news, even after years with V1 it still happens occasionally that I try to option-drag a layer in the Layers panel to create a copy AND move it directly to a wanted position within the layer hierarchy.

In my understanding the hidden system folder 'private' should not be used for any image placed by the user, regardless of linked or embedded and regardless of its source (local or network drive or website). Instead, every Affinity app has a folder of its own inside the user's library folder where the app stores preferences, resources like assets or brushes and also temporary data that are caused by the user's workflow. Accordingly it would/should be sufficient for the app to use its autosave + temp folders as it usually does, unsaved data included. Affinity does not use this folder "private/var/…" for other linked or embedded resources and their file paths. Why for "Stock" panel resources in particular? Note, I am able to drag an image from a website (browser window) directly onto an Affinity layout page. It gets embedded (regardless of my policy preference) + shows an entry in the Resource Manager (named "image") without a path. It does not cause an instance in the "private/var/…" folder. Then I can click "Make linked" + choose a storage location for this file. -

"should" ? – Or 'is', 'would', 'could' … ? Do you have doubts about the user library folder? -
Alternatively / also it could be an issue of the PDF viewing app. – Does your PDF show gray strokes if you view it in a browser window? Do you see gray strokes in the attached PDF exported from APub V1? It contains several objects with white fill, set as RGB and CMYK in a CMYK document. To me no gray edge gets displayed in various viewers. – How about your "Foxit PDF Reader"? v1105 white.pdf

Thanks for this Info, I changed my three used instances in this thread. (recently a suddenly not working tag-link happened in another thread without getting this info/explanation) Since the forum now shows a blank search results list for the initial tag AFD-5529, wouldn't it make sense for the forum to instead of replacing a tag internally, create a new one with a link to the previous one? It can be confusing for the community to click on 'empty' links when searching for a possible issue. Additionally, possible workarounds maybe harder to find when a response links to a tag search that contains threads with workarounds. -

Note, the related bug AFD-5529 AF-964 I initially mentioned above does not got a reply from the @SerifInfoBot yet. (I assume every fixed bug gets a post of the bot in the threads that have a related tag attached). • What file path does your Resource Manager show for this file in Windows? • And did you switch it to be "linked" – or got it initially placed with this setting? -
Does your question mean that they do appear on a print? Do you know why a white object on a transparent page would create a visible gray stroke in this exported PDF / in the viewing app? Is this an export issue of Affinity – or a display / rendering issue of the used PDF viewer app that possibly would not appear on a print? In case of the latter, is it indeed necessary to change the layout?

It sounds there is a baseline grid of 12 activated. Baseline grids can get activated for a document, a text frame or a paragraph style.

I get what you describe with a left-click … … whereas the option 'show path + jump' appears on right-click: Another option in TextEdit / Plain Text: Drag the icon from the title bar in the text area -> pastes the path as text: (same as dragging or copy/pasting any object from the Finder)
-
Did you try with a saved file? To me it works for TextEdit, Preview, QuickTime, VLC, Acrobat, Podofyllin, BBEdit, ... They let me choose an entry in the displayed folder hierarchy to jump to the according Finder window. – InDesign doesn't display the path but offers a "Show in Finder" command instead.

That's what I had in mind with my earlier, initial post. And it appears to be the one culprit in the mentioned V2 bug AFD-5529 AF-964 . Possibly you don't run into the issue because it was partially fixed for v2 with the new feature to directly create an Affinity document from such a resource file. (in V1 this workflow doesn't work). So instead of missing this odd file path you may rather feel protected or satisfied by the choice to save or export the downloaded resource wherever you want. -

Why should the download need to be cached if you directly create a new Affinity document from its link in the Stock panel preview without a file path in the Resource Manager? Isn't it sufficient to be stored in an .autosave / a temp file in your user library > Affinity folder? -
Good to know. On mac, Affinity just repeats the already displayed file name – whereas macOS & usual mac apps show a pop-up menu that enables you to jump to the parent folder.

Thanks, good to know that editing the image doesn't cause an app crash for you in V2 although "/var/folders/…" is within the hidden parent system folder "private". Nevertheless, the mentioned bug report was created for V2, which might mean your downloaded .SVG in this cache folder may get deleted with a reboot of your mac. Oddly, although the Affinity apps have custom folders in this directory 'T' … … the downloaded stock files get stored in 'T' but outside of the Affinity folders: -
For instance: "Fields" panel > "Document Statistics" > "Path:" Or: compare the modification dates in the Finder/Explorer. For V1 on mac it was requested years ago to get the default mac feature that displays the file path with a right click on a document's name in the title bar or tab. I don't know if it was implemented in V2.
