Floating panels such as layers lost
thomaso replied to ces58's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
What do you mean by "View Studio" ? And where does it get "unchecked"? And in what app, version and operating system? And how do you zoom: with Zoom Tool, mouse wheel, touchpad, menu command, … ? As far I know there is a menu command in menu "View" -> "Studio", or a menu command in menu "View" -> "Hide Studio" … but "View Studio" ? -
red line around text
thomaso replied to allone's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
It could be a stroke assigned to the text style, or just an interface item ("Show snapping candidates"). Unfortunately you don't show your entire screen with panels and Context Toolbar and the object selected in the Layers panel … which would indicate more clear what you have setup. -
PDF Spreads Merged into One Page
thomaso replied to JimSlade's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
If the Affinity document is setup as spreads of facing pages you can simply choose the export option "Area" > "All Pages" to achieve a PDF with single pages, not two-pages spreads. Alternatively you can use a separate app or an online tool for PDF editing to separate the spreads into single pages. Note that many offer the option to split the pages of a PDF file into multiple PDF files, so searching may be difficult without perfect keywords. https://sourceforge.net/projects/briss/ https://www.1000grad-epaper.de/allgemein/praxistipp-pdf-umwandeln-doppelseiten-trennen/ -
I experience especially (not only) with PDF opened in APub that Find & Replace may need to get a language re-assigned to the text to show / find results. (-> manually switch from e.g. "English" to "None" and back to "English") Compare (btw: here some posts indicate that especially "English" may be a problem while one of the alternatives "English (…)" would not): If your APub shows "en-PL" as default language if no document is opened than it may help to save the app "Defaults": 1. Create a text frame. 2. Set its language to your wanted default language. 3. Choose menu "Edit" > "Default" > "Synchronize form Selection". 4. Choose menu "Edit" > "Default" > Save. Close the document. Close the app. Reopen the app and check its language. – This workflow/workaround did solve my issue of a missing "en-DE" (english with german dialect?) that APub initially used in my setup of German macOS language + English APub language. Compare (note, this thread concerns an early version of APub):

One of them is the view in 100% (= "Pixel Size") to get all pixels displayed when setting the values. Your video uses 25-50% only, but it may be sufficient to demonstrate "just differences" of the various methods. If you use 25% zoom level, 75% of pixels aren't displayed although they get affected from the adjustment. Simply try yourself to experience the relevance: edit an image in 25% for a "best" look, then zoom to 100%. Compare this with an edit in 100% only. The motive (face, nature, technic) is fully irrelevant, just its texture matters (light & local contrast + size & number of details + image size). For experiencing move the sliders separately between min and max values, first with 1 slider only, then combined with the other sliders (=parameters) of this adjustment. BTW: you seem to use this thread (with its unclear topic) as a general, personal thread for any question/task. This makes the entire thread confusing over time and less useful for later forum users. – Could you instead for next topics either create a new thread for different topics or add your question to an existing thread with an according topic? Thanks!

If you want to maintain the baseline grid you can just increase the leading. Since leading is a paragraph property it is useful to have the Paragraph panel opened. Additionally it is required to have the according object or text selected: while your screenshot above shows a leading of "15,6 pt" in the Context Toolbar it is unclear what leading is applied to the shown text frames and their paragraph style. As mentioned in one of your other recent threads the leading can conflict with the baseline grid, so setting the leading larger than the baseline grid will cause the text to use every second grid line only. This can be a wanted setting and match a requested result ("regelafstand wil vergroten"). For clear, unambiguous help by the forum it is also required to let us know a.) what exactly you want to achieve and b.) what the current settings are.

"We" ? – Obviously nobody else than you enjoys this thread. What you've added today is just clickbait again to rehash your ideas, even though it's been made clear multiple times above that they have nothing to do with the Affinity forum... … in particular annoying with a link to a post of yours in a different, external forum that perfidiously links back to the Affinity forum: And you still keep linking here to an external forum, and again with text without any relevance to Affinity apps / the Affinity forum:

What do you want to solve, what do you want to achieve? Your screenshot shows the introduction text not using the baseline grid. To make it use the baseline grid, it … • needs "Align to Baseline Grid" activated in its paragraph style • must not have "Ignore Baseline Grid" activated in the Text Frame panel • needs a leading set which is not larger than the baseline grid. If the leading is larger than the baseline grid then the text will use every second grid line only. If your screenshot includes more relevant panels + an object or text selected it becomes more clear for the forum what situation and settings you demonstrate. To me it seems the Character panel in your screenshot is not very useful while the Paragraph panel + the Context Toolbar would make it more clear with some text selected.

rasterize all vector images only
thomaso replied to Ousy's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Alternative workaround in 2 steps: Instead of rasterizing layers selectively for (=before) export you can force rasterization for an entire document during an according export, e.g. as raster image file type or as PDF with the option "Rasterize: Everything". Excluding text layers in this rasterization method (e.g. by hiding them in the Layers panel temporarily) may achieve a 1-click rasterization for everything except text. In the second step you would place the rasterized result(s) in your Affinity document(s) between text and vector layers and re-activate the text layers for a final export without rasterization. As Dan mentioned already, the workaround efficiency depends a lot on your layout complexity and the layers hierarchy. -
Opening a PDF with missing fonts
thomaso replied to Timtoon's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
To display the PDF in Affinity without missing fonts don't open but place it instead (on a page of the wanted size). If you open a PDF with Affinity it needs to render the text as editable text, therefore it requires either the initially used font or a font substitute. -

The solution depends on your workflow that is causing this white space. There are quite a few options and settings that can be used to achieve this look. I doubt the screenshot below showing the desired text position will help you - instead it would be useful if you show the entire screen (not just a layout detail), including the Context Toolbar, Layers panel, Paragraph panel and Text Frame panel for instance (each with the relevant sections unfolded) ... and the affected headline selected with the Text Tool.

Unfortunately you don't tell us about the wanted result of your first project nor about eventually workflow problem(s) you want to solve. While you mention "14 instructions" in your first post, you then add a list of 17 (3 more) bullet points that seem to be missing the beginning or a possible introduction. The list mentions "picture frame created in step 3" while step 3 in your list says "Save and Close". In case you want to create an illustration in isometric geometry you might like the various available tutorials for this feature. In case you mean the "Open" button in the "Load Selection From File…" dialog: You need to have an .afselection file selected to enable the "Open" button. If you do not want to save a selection marquee ("marching ants") but rather the content of activated pixel layer(s) you can choose menu File > Export > Area > Selection Area / Selection Only to save it as an image file on your disk. If you rather want to save the selected pixel layers as Affinity document (e.g. .afphoto) choose… 1. menu Edit -> Copy, then 2. menu File > New From Clipboard to create a new document of the selected and copied pixel area, then 3. Save it as an Affinity document.

JPEG odd behaviour
thomaso replied to travelshooter's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Just curious: If you copy one of your APh jpeg files (before oct 23) from the server back to your computer, can you then copy this same file to the server again? There seem to be various tools for batch renaming: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ftsa&q=windows+12+rename+files+batch&atb=v373-1&ia=web Do you want to change the name or the suffix ('.aphoto' -> '.afdesign')? Or just change the program that is associated with '.aphoto' for opening? -
Master page Affinity Publisher
thomaso replied to pioneer's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Apart from "deleting" a column of a text frame or a table: "just reflow" in a text frame could also be judged as harmful, for instance because it can cause text overflow and thus "disappearing" text in text frames. – Accordingly I would expect for tables a change of column width done on a master page would be transferred to the table instance on the documents page. To me in V1 it's even worse because it results in an additional table layer on the affected document page. master table update vs migrate.m4v -
Master page Affinity Publisher
thomaso replied to pioneer's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
To me this behaviour for master tables appears to be a bug. Note, that you may only change cell content and text style but neither column or row size without detaching the object first. Actually all object properties in the Table panel are grayed-out when a master table or cell is selected on a document's page. This locked object properties would rather indicate that they do not lose the connection to their parent master object. Compare text frames that got edited content on a document page still react on changes of columns, frame size, frame style or position done to their initial master page object – while also the options in the Text Frame panel are grayed-out for master text frames on a document's page.
