I was mostly confused about why default black wasn't black on the color wheel.

Just in case if it is still unclear (after @NotMyFault's + @lacerto's hints), below another interface view on the different blacks vs. wheel marker position with the reason that CMYK has 4 colour channels whereas RGB has one less and thus the possible maximum sum of values is different between CMYK (4x 100 = 400) and RGB (3x 100 = 300).

    rgb.thumb.jpg.ec3b20c1a81def3f35757492fe86ff1d.jpg

Accordingly the wheel does not reflect all these details, compare below the wheel, appearing identical for different CMYK values (72 68 67 88 vs. 100 100 100 100).

Nevertheless I am confused in your screenshot of the wheel about the reported  HSL 0 0 0  for the probably 100 K colour  – which conflicts with the wheel marker position. (and does not happen in my V1 examples above)

Bildschirmfoto2024-02-08um01_08_30.jpg.528b7bd610e46580bb36dc8a207f2de6.jpg  … maybe @NotMyFault or @lacerto can shed some light on this?

    Not sure what to do.

If I understand right this situation is slightly different to your questions & the answers above/before: While before the goal may be to maintain a certain colour definition when switching a profile or space (e.g. to print text with 100 K on white paper) or may concern the colour space of saved images, the illustration example that simulates 'ancient' typewriter text on an older paper appears to be more a matter of taste than a question of correct setting or conversion.

With other words: In this case use the colour as you like it visually, if saved as image file (tif) the text will be rasterized anyway and thus its initial '100 K' don't really matter. Personally I would use 100 K and maybe blend mode darken or multiply for this text. I agree, the upper, darker example looks less natural (not really typed on that sheet but added afterwards). Also note, the typewriter colour ribbons could vary in their black intensity and get more pale over time.
(I'd rather increase the leading for a 'real' typewriter impression)

default swatch gives cmyk 0 0 0 100, but this will look dark brownish on display to simulate how it will look on paper

you may want rich black, then add other colors, e.g. 100 100 100 100, but that will normally exceed max tint limits of printers.

0 0 0 100 is fine for text (to avoid 'flickering' or blurred text caused by additional ink colours). A "rich black" gets set up e.g. as 60 40 40 100 (with more cyan to compensate the brownish appearance of the black ink in Western CMYK (Eastern/Asian/Japanese inks may be slightly different)).
100 100 100 100 is only used for registration/print marks, to make sure they appear in each ink channel and don't get rasterized.

My second book is mostly color illustrations and I've done about 15 in CMYK. I guess now I need to figure out how to change them all to RGB.

You don't need to convert the image files individually from CMYK to RGB but can use the document or the export colour space & profile setting instead.

(Generally there is no advantage to convert single image files to CMYK. They can get converted from RGB to CMYK in the layout document or on export. If you save images in a certain CMYK profile but need another profile for the layout print pdf then they get converted twice.)

  4. The "Affinity Spotlight" articles often introduce kind of masters of their work. A search for their names might lead you to an according tutorial on other websites. For instance:

"The art of crafting things with Felix Hernandez" or "Naturalistic illustration" by Isabel Aracama …

Yeah, but ists really wide-window!  Why not a "search for  Keystrokes/Menu-Orders... " and a directly  "Jump tump to conflicting canditats?".....

Even lot of OSX-FREEWARE Apps can do this!!! – A really good example of "how to manage your keystrokes" (…) For complex apps (like all SERIF-products) a similar "keytsrtoke manager" should be exist!

"Why"-questions are always tricky and easy to answer, for instance: "because it was designed this way, not another" or "because time is money" or "because improvements get added with every update while keyboard shortcut management isn't on top of the priority list" or …

Remember, you created this thread with the keywords "rough/fast understanding SYMBOLS" … which, imho, explicitly doesn't ask for detailed views but just "rough/fast" instead. Your turn in the thread from symbol handling over "why no right-click menu entry?" to "why no keyboard shortcut search?" to "listen how others work" makes me wonder:

Why not doing a forum search for existing feature requests? Why not creating a new feature request in the appropriate forum, especially implemented for feature requests? Why not using "OSX-FREEWARE" that offers the wanted options? Why don't all apps have a corresponding free version? Why do we buy Affinity? Why do people need to write to the forum? Why do others always fail to do things as expected – except me? Why is the world not simply the way we want it to be? … etc.

Is it possible to transform a file into a book? I have looked at this but could not find an option for either of these. Please can you advise?

A single .afpub saved as/in a book file? With what goal or advantage? Where have you "looked at this" (…without finding an option)?

you'll need to select the text frame(s) and then change the existing spelling language assigned to them. One way you can quickly do this is via Select > Select Object > Text frame to highlight all the text frames, and then change the language, and then repeat for art text if required.

If you work with saved text styles it is useful to change the language in their style definition via the Text Style Panel. This means accordingly that every language used for text in a document may get its own text style. If certain words or sections within paragraphs have a deviating language you can create a character style for a different language and apply that to the related text selection.

Maybe the missing possibilty in KEY_STROKE-panel... i can not look / search / jump to...  for any stroke/command/conflict...????

In Affinity for mac the keyboard shortcuts are sorted like the commands in the main menu. To search for the position of a command you can use the Help menu and enter the command in its search. This will auto-open the according menu and highlight the entry. This enables you to notice the path for the shortcut inside the Affinity preference window.

  9. I don't know another app in particular. Unfortunately Affinity V1 offers in its Swatches Panel a palette creation from an image (with the option to set a number of colours / swatches) and also offers a palettised export with various options for number of colours and palette (a custom palette included) but this never really worked in V1. If "custom" palette is selected the export fails with an error message, if "Automatic" is used the result may be insufficiently surprising (see below).

For V1 it is a known/logged unfixed bug, I don't know if there are improvements for V2. (choose Export –> PNG or GIF –> Palettised …)

As simulation you can try the Posterize Adjustment (and export as .png/.gif)

    Bildschirmfoto2024-02-06um11_52_22.jpg.4aa7f41a9fd505ac7bb87630044a5c2c.jpg Bildschirmfoto2024-02-06um11_52_42.jpg.fcab683cbf18a8abd908f287cc38ae29.jpg

There may be other options to achieve a palettised look in Affinity, e.g. via "LUT" adjustment or "Procedural Texture" filter – nevertheless you can't export the visual result as a true indexed image file but as simulation only.

gaten in een links uitgelijnde tekst

    Your links says:

    Vul de volgende waarden in:
    Woordspatiëring: (90%, 100%, 110%)
    Letterspatiëring: (-3%, 0%, 3%)
    Glyph-scaling: (97%, 100%, 103%)

In APub these options are in the Paragraph Panel > Justification.

Apart from this, Affinity doesn't have ID's two general options for text alignment but uses one method only.

Your example has now relly glow... just a little bit

My example has a little/small glow because you mentioned it initially:

Nevertheless, your problem with increased size of a glow if exported

If try to export this file will alls 100+++ big.... cause the glow is goes so far....

… doesn't happen to me with a small, medium or big glow:

For clear problem description you might need to show a screenshot with your glow & setting and your exported result.

If you rather export the text frame only and have the resulting image dimension in mind: It is known ("by design") that these effects (blur, shadow, glow) seem to increase the exported image dimension, as far I remember by 50% of the used effect radius – regardless of their "visibility" (for human eyes).

I did highlight the text for the Intro 1st paragraph, went to text, then to spacing and then default.

Where in the interface did you set "spacing" and chose "default" ?

Try this: select all text with the Text Tool to see it highlighted. Then in the Character Panel select the "Kerning" field and type 0 (zero), regardless of the currently displayed value, then press the Enter key. Then, still with all text highlighted, do the same in the "Tracking" field.

Kunt u mij ook op een schermafdruk laten zien hoe ik verticale hulplijnen kan plaatsen? Het is voor mij belangrijk om zelf een spread te bouwen en geen gebruik te maken van templates.

For spine I prefer a rectangle object instead in page height and spine width. It can snap at the pages centres (v + h). In particular for wider spines it is helpful to use it for alignment of objects in the spine area.

"You can set this in the printer dialogue box when you go to file - print under color management in the bottom half of this box. It has not changed from V1. It should be set to color handled by app. "  I am thinking that ColorSync is what will help my friend.

If you want to say that you (or your friend) are missing the "ColorSync" option on mac in Affinity's print dialog: As far I know if you setup a virtual printer in macOS > system preferences > printer by default a printer gets setup with the "Airprint" technology, which Apple names "driverless". This way the print dialog may show reduced options.

To access more/all options of a certain printer driver you can try to setup a virtual printer in macOS with a different protocol and select a specific driver during printer setup. While "Airprint" seems to create a default printer with limited standard options, a setup via "IP" may result differently if you choose a driver file from your disk.

Unfortunately, not only various printer hard-/software can result in different print dialogs, also various macOS versions show different system dialogs for a printer setup.
