Alternatively, run Geometry - Smooth Curves click the Node tool and then click Smooth Curve in the context menu bar on both the 'flower' and the 'cloud', then the subtraction operation will work correctly. Presumably this also rectifies the fill issues identified by @anon2
EDIT: Please disregard my answer - posted in error. H

Yes, it worked! Thanks @Pšenda, you just saved me a boatload of time and headache!! @h_dI'm sure you're tips will come in handy as well as I move through this project!

h_d reacted to Pšenda in I need help on placing multiple 2x3 inches photos on A4 Canvass
Hi @Serif,
abbreviated versions of panel names should be included in the help. If the user does not know the meaning of the confusion "X" with "trans" (for example Xmit as transmit), then the abbreviation Xfm will not tell him anything.

h_d got a reaction from cbordey in Extra space at beginning of paragraph
If you're having to press backspace to close up the gaps, the chances are that there are extra return characters between the paragraphs. To check this, pull down the Text menu and choose Show Special Characters:
This will display paragraph breaks as a sort of reversed P::
One at the end of each paragraph, one in between.
To remove them quickly, do a Find and Replace (Cmd-F on Mac, probably Ctrl-F on PC).
In the Find box, click the magnifying glass and choose Special Characters - Paragraph Break:
.
Do this once again in the Find box, and just once in the Replace box, then double-click in the Find box to show results::
Then click Replace All:
This has removed my double paragraph breaks, but I still have space between the paragraphs because my text styles are set up that way. If you need to remove more space, or the above doesn't work, post back.
Cheers,
H

h_d got a reaction from CraigK in Boolean Subtract problem in Designer
Or if you are sold on a Boolean subtract, select all the stars, choose Layer-Geometry-Merge Curves (to create a single curve comprising all the stars), then select the blue rectangle as well and then try subtracting:

Unless you have a particular reason to use Boolean subtraction, an alternative might be to group the stars and clip them to the rectangle:

h_d reacted to weegiegrum in Publsiher index formatting
Re the numbering thing... I think I've figured this out. It appears to be because the working index window is showing the global document page numbers and not taking into account any section numbering. I have 16 pages of introductory stuff using Roman numerals as per standard book formatting, with the 'proper' numbering starting at 1 on the 17th page.
The numbers in the populated index do accurately reflect the page numbers as in the text.

h_d reacted to weegiegrum in Publsiher index formatting
Thanks H, having slept on it, I realised that was the problem. When I populated the index pages, I hadn't specified index entry text, so the font size was huge and I changed it to body text - which of course mucked up the formatting. Having re-done the index after editing the 'index' text styles, the entries indent properly.
Many thanks for the help.

Make sure you have a transparent background:
Then use the Flood Select tool. Click in each bus window to create a selection, then press delete/backspace:

h_d reacted to Patrick Connor in AI file to Affinity Designer file error error
@RichW
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums
It would clearly suit your particular needs better, but it is not something that needs "correcting" as it is not something that we claim to do, sorry.
Whenever one makes a decision about using software you have inadvertently decided to be dependent upon them and their infrastructure. In the same way everyone who chose videos does not demand that all DVD manufacturers provide a VHS drive too. If that's what you need then ours may not be the tool you need for that purpose.

h_d reacted to mikehutch in Page Number Sub-Sections e.g. 5A
My thanks to you all for your help. And so quickly too. I can't say how much it is appreciated.
After trying your ideas and confirming what Walt wrote about the TOC I think I've found a way around this by increasing the right-hand margin on the TOC page and adding an A in a text box. It's not ideal but it will have to do. I guess that for normal publishing pages with As in them are never needed.
Thanks again.
Regards.

h_d reacted to weegiegrum in Publisher: can you combine a text frame into a master?
OK, that method definitely works; it's a little fiddly getting the new text flow options right as I'm trying to do it one section at a time to avoid a complete disaster, but I'm figuring it out. And yes, I'm trying it on a backup first.

Thanks H, I'll give that a shot. It's only 130 pages, what could go wrong...? 😘😃

Click into the box (highlighted blue below) and type the shortcut that you want to use:
You'll get a yellow triangle as a warning if your chosen shortcut is already in use.
(This function is only available in Affinity Publisher, as it's the only Affinity app that allows text to flow from one frame to another.)

I'll get on the hotline . I might have to pay for Jixipix first though, I'm still running the trial version . Although I suspect that once 1.9 goes live on the App Store, jixipix will be fast to pick it up.
Best,
