I have to bomb this as well, since a shape builder tool would be very much be appreciated. :)

WELL DONE, your fonts should replace COMIC SANS in any application that is using fonts.

Your work motivates me to learn how to useGLYPH or GLYPH mini, so I finally can realize my font ideas.

For my fellow MAC user: Beside GLYPHS, there is also a other font creator, which is freeware as long you don't want to use the fonts commercially. Forgot the name of the app, but I could dig the name up out of my email inbox.

LOCK GUIDELINES, would be wonderful as a option.

I really love experimenting with comic book lettering in Affinity Designer! I am trying now to transfer same techniques learnt from John Roshell's video tutorial done in Illustrator and it looks that AD will be great tool for letterers (despite the fact that text layers cannot be exported to PSD as editable ones).

See attached different types of balloon borders you can create with compounds or clipping with my new font in action.

    Good Point!

It won't be my used book, though, I've just just been browsing through the tutorials/projects and I am amazed at the detail and depth and the care that has gone into this. :)

Guess PDF would be to risky to publish as it's easily redistributable

It is not being sold on Amazon.co.uk as we would prefer to sell it directly. Amazon can set their own prices and obviously take a big cut too.

I see that you found it, but I think the answer to your question in the other thread is that the German version will be ready when it's ready!

Serif do NOT save your credit card details. We save the last 4 digits of the 16 you entered, and your name, but not the security number, and a tokenized version of the transaction. This is standard practice and it is not enough to do anything further with.

To give some background, all responsible merchants shouldn’t be storing credit card information for over half a decade now…instead they swapped to credit card tokenization where a token is stored but the credit card information no longer exists. Our order gateway is Stripe, who are fully PCI compliant. For PCI-DSS compliance since June (summer of 2010), most Merchants started the journey of not storing credit cards natively in their database, some store the last 4 digits and then may store a token that links to the accompanying payment information to the gateway processor. As the token is only undecipherable using a private Serif owned Stripe key, that token would be useless to anyone but Serif.

We have to store this token to show you the card that was used to place the order and for legal tax reasons. However we do not have to use offer that token for your next purchase. At the moment you can replace a card when placing your next order but not remove the used one from being offered again (i.e. "delete the key" outside of an order). I think it is a very sensible suggestion to add the option to remove that token from being available future purchases by you. Being a new shop we have had a few useful suggestions like this that we will implement.

Subtract works but it does not cut groups so each letter (or its part) must be cut separately. And then again the lower part of the text as subtracted parts disappear.

OK, how about doing this with layer clipping? Attached is a quick & dirty example of what I mean (saved in Mac 1.4.2 format, which I assume will open OK in 1.5.x beta versions). For a prettier version, the "d" needs to be a separate text object or extra spacing added so it can be offset farther to the right, but the basic method seems workable. It also has the advantage of not having to convert any text to curves so everything remains easily editable.

Ahem, seems simple Paste inside does the trick. Didn't test how shadow fx behaves here though.

    Thanks to all!

Now I managed to get it done, thanks to your advices and ideas.

I converted the Text into curves, made a copy of that group. Then I changed I took a guideline and changed the angle of the text. Then I placed the guideline where I want to have the cut and subtracted then with some rectangles letter for letter. Then I did that on the copied text group (and ungrouped them before doing the substracting). The OUTER SHADOW FX of the upper part (bigger piece of the text) is ok for creating the shadows on the lower piece. But that might look bad in case the text is going to be on background that isn't all black.

Indeed English isn't my MUTTERSPRACHE, my fellow Designer from Scotland. Thanks for correcting my question. I had a sleep-deficit when I posted the thread. Insomnia does influence my cognitive abilities in a negative way, especially my verbal articulation and my writing skills. But it does boost my creativity, since it boost my Apophenia and Pareidolia, which comes handy when I use those "visuals" in a painting, design or drawing.

Btw, I am still missing the locking of the guidelines. Or it's already implemented and I just missed it due to the championship?  :)

    Hello.

I used AD to draw and slice single glyphs for my new comic book font... regular is done, others (italic, bold, bold ilalic) are still in progress.

... and here is the sampler:

The thread title only sounds/appears a little strange because of the word order, and the word 'cutted': the past tense of 'cut' is 'cut'. I'm guessing that you're not a native English speaker.

Your question is, "How do I create a word cut into two pieces?" The answer is, "Quite easily, if we had a Knife Tool, but we don't!"

To create the example in the attached file, I typed some text and converted it to curves (Ctrl+Enter). I made a copy of the text and intersected each copy with a four-sided shape (a rectangle with a corner cut off). I then applied a new stroke and fill to make it look a little like the image you supplied.

Have you tried converting the letters to curves & using boolean subtraction with a rectangle (or whatever) to "cut" them?
