Schubi63 got a reaction from Wiredframe in workflow speedup by "input field" improvements
    Hi folks,

sometimes I stuck / loose time by the current input field behavior:

    1. click into e.g: transformation x - input field
    2. if not exactly hitting the correct position, something "stupid" can happen, like my typed value appears between the unit or after it >> which leads to a "no change result"

workaround: press CMD+A and start typing

All I want to do is: start typing my desired value without thinking or pressing CMD+A before.

Do you think you can mark the value (value+unit) when clicking into an input field by default? I guess the percentage of use cases where users want to type in a whole new value instead of exactly clicking between 2 numbers is much higher.

And the functionality of modifying the value step by step via up/down or Shift+up/Shift-down will be preserved. So I see only a benefits.

Thanks a lot for that great piece of software so far! :)
    Stefan.

    Hi,

I am new to AD but used PS/AI a lot and I have problem in work efficiency / speed when it comes to selecting objects.

Normally I press "V" and I can be sure that I am in the move tool and start to click-drag a marquee selection. Unfortunately in AD I'm not.

Because if the move tool is already active - "V" toggles to the last used tool. And if I start my click-drag action to create the marquee selection - something other happens, e.g. I paint or what tool is ever active then.

I would be very happy find an option in the preferences to prevent that behavior.

    Thanks a lot,
    Stefan.

    Hi Schubi63,

Unfortunately there isn't a function within the app that will turn off cycling to the last used tool. If you would like to see something like this added to the app I recommend making a post in our Feature Requests section found below :)

if AD has crashed ... I get automatically prompted by an OS X crash dialog.

Does it make sense to report that log file to Apple?
Will it be forwarded to Serif/Affinity Designer developer team automatically?

Or should I report this crash directly to the support/dev team instead?

Schubi63 got a reaction from LilleG in swap "layers visibly toggle" from right to left
Currently the visibility toggle is at the end of the layers-row.

In my opinion the UX could be much better, if the toggle would come first. Not because of other programs have it there . It has to do with our reading-direction.

If the toggle would be in first place - the user can read the layer names, move the mouse cursor, toggle visibility, all at a glance.

In case of having it at the end (status quo), I am always lost after toggling the visibility of a layer. My eyes have to "go back" to the left to find again the layers names, find the next desired layer and then "go back" to the right to toggle the visibility. And so on.

    see picture
(left: status quo vs. right: should be)

I can't seem to locate a preference in the custom Keyboard Shortcuts for toggling layer visibility. Does this not exist, or did I miss it? If it doesn't exist is there a work-around for assigning a shortcut?

    Hi Schubi63,

Symbols are document-based, so they're contained in the document you made them in (there's nothing to export from the application, basically)

Well, there kind of is... but I wouldn't recommend it, so that's why we're not advising it (it may lead to unexpected consequences)

Thanks (and sorry for the extra overhead this time)

One feature I use all the time in Adobe Illustrator is the hide function. I think being able to hide an object to access the objects below it would be a nice addition to a future update to Affinity Designer.

Schubi63 reacted to jvdneut in Color picker UI
    Hi,

I've just started using Affinity Designed, and after having been initially impressed with the workflow for slicing an existing PSD file, have become slightly frustrated at the way the color picker works.

The color picker seems to work differently to most other applications I've worked with. Usually I end up dragging colours around from picker to swatches, or from swatches to tools. If I try to do the same in Affinity Designer, the color picker appears. Activating the picked color requires you to click on the swatch next to the picker, other applications generally activate the color right away.

Most other applications also feature the color picker as a separate tool in the toolbox, instead of only in the colours palette. Having it as a separate tool might allow you to skip having to activate the color, and could also allow you to implement left/right clicks for picking foreground/background colours.

The color picker itself shows a zoomed area, which is good, but the zoomed area has some shading applied to it to make it look like a lens, but actually gets in the way of picking a color because it changes the surrounding colours. Pixelmator and Sip (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sip/id507257563) work similarly, but do not have the additional shading. Removing this shading would make the picker more functional.

    Thanks

    Slightly frustrated?

It kinda kills the flow completely whenever I illustrate using Affinity Designer. I need the color picker on a modifier key like OPT when combined with vector generating tools. I need to be able to pick a color and immediately create the next stroke using the newly picked color.

OPT for outline color, Shift+OPT to set fill color. The keys must be pressed before starting a new vector, with the pen still in the air (or mouse button not pressed) - with the picker active, touching the canvas will pick a color, not create a shape.

    Pretty, pretty please!

The app is missing and/or would benefit with shortcuts for things like:
Resize objects Enabling text input when pressing Enter with a text layer selected Hide/Unhide layers Navigate through the layers panel Simple things but huge time savers.  When you get proficient with shortcuts like this, you'll never go back.

    Thanks.

    Interface request:

Click&Hover mouse over visibility checkboxes area in Layers Panel could toggle or change while mouse moving. It could check initially if first click is toggling to hide or show the layer and copy this state to every hovered checkbox until mouse release.

Of course you can select now with Ctrl or Shift layers and toggle visibility of chosen layres group... But I propose (imho) nice improvement of Layers Panel

I tried to illustrate this in attachment.

    Cheers.

Click (and hold) a checkbox for a layer, then move the cursor arrow down/up to hide/show multiple layers.
This feature is available in Photoshop, and it is Awesome!

    Update:
option+click the checkbox of a layer to hide all layers except the that layer.

Schubi63 reacted to decimate555 in Need better indicator lock/hide layers
    Hello,

As of the latest beta (Oct 9th) I've noticed there is still a glaring usability issue when it comes to visual layer cues, particularly if a user has not visited a file in a lengthy period of time one would have to expand most grouped layers to remember what was locked or have hidden visibility. Usually when moving or doing some other edit with grouped objects or other selections, I thought this request could help…

How about some sort of faint or ghosted icon that appears to indicate that sublayers exist with hidden visibility or locks that are active when the layer is collapsed?

    Thank you!

It would be great to reorganize (eg reorder) slices. As a UI designer, I have more than 50 sites in some files. I would appreciate to reorder them
A bonus would be to  group them in folders

If it is not possible to reorganize, then sorting them alphabetically could help.
