    Hiya,

I'm not sure if there is a reason this default behaviour has changed, but it does indeed look like a bug.

I'll get it logged with the developers, thanks.

    Hi Stefan,

This is a bit strange. I'll pass it over to the dev team to see if this is intended. I'd expect to be able to scroll to be honest.

    Thanks

    No problem!

Quite the opposite: I thank you for mentioning it again, cause I haven't used it yet - but I should. At least as long as:

Yes, we could have a way to temporarily disable and delete all the FX without checking/unchecking all the checkboxes. This was already requested before but wasn't implemented.
    Improvement logged. Thanks Stefan.

Hear me out.. Why not let AD do the work for you.. So instead of the user having to find layers and groups by scrolling, it should just jump right to the selected object/group in the Layer PaneI. I mean AD highlights selected, but it could just as well jump to it.  I would LOVE to see this added

    Alfred,

I'm talking about hiding/showing objects, not layers. Like the "Hide" command from Illustrator and then reverse "Show All" command. They are much better than having to dig through the Layers Panel to hide and show objects. It would greatly decrease the amount of wasted time spent looking for objects in the Layers Panel. You could select an object and hide it with a keystroke or you could hide other items and isolate just one object with a keystroke. As well, as it is now in Designer there isn't a good way to show (or turn on the visibility) of an object that currently hidden. For example, let's say that I have many layers and within each layer I have many objects. If I hide one object and later I decided to show it, there isn't an efficient way to show it. I would have to remember which layer it was on and then dig through all the objects until I found the one that had been hidden. Sure it works now but it just isn't efficient nor is it smooth as it could be. Jumping to the selected object is better than how things are now but it still wouldn't be as efficient as a simple "hide/show all" command that could be used as a shortcut. Having a "hide/show all" command would be faster and more importantly for me, it would decrease the amount of mousing and clicking that I currently have to do.

    Hi Schubi63 and A_B_C,

I've been able to reproduce this issue however it's only been on macOS Sierra - are you (or A_B_C) using this? I've been unable to reproduce it on El Capitan

The problem occurs when you attempt to rename an object that is already selected and you double click quite fast. A single click or double clicking with the object deselected will allow you to rename it.

I'll get it reported to the devs!

Schubi63 reacted to MEB in active anchor point in transformation panel could be more obvious
    Hi Stefan,
If you rotate the object on canvas, the rotation will also be reflected in the Transform panel so you need to have the white square as a reference for the top-left corner of the object.
The bigger square represents the selected anchor point. Maybe changing the selected anchor point (the biggest) to white in all cases is enough to make the difference more obvious?

    Hi,

it would be great to have the same functionality for show/hide layer effect by using the modifier SHIFT as it is already implemented for layer masks

Schubi63 got a reaction from predick in prevent toggle between current and last used tool?
    Hi,

I am new to AD but used PS/AI a lot and I have problem in work efficiency / speed when it comes to select objects.

Normally I press "V" and I can be sure that I am in the move tool and start to click-drag a marquee selection. Unfortunately in AD I'm not. Because if the move tool is already active "V" toggles to the last used tool. And if I start my click-drag action to create the marquee selection - something other happens, e.g. I paint or what tool is ever active then.

I couldn't find a setting option in the preferences to prevent that behavior. Is there something I overlooked?

    Thanks.

Also thanks, for that great software package.

Schubi63 got a reaction from JonathanBall in scale objects / usage of scale modifier inconsistent
That's the point - it is confusing. Sometimes Shift leads to scale with aspect ration - sometimes Shift does the opposite. I have this one very nice summary I once read about good interface:

    "Don't make me think".

This is simple as brilliant. And the behavior of swapping the functionality of Shift made me think a lot. It gave me the feeling of not controlling the tools. They controlled me instead.

The same problem I have with that one here:
    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/24110-prevent-toggle-between-current-and-last-used-tool/

Regularly I got mad when I hit "V" to activate the move tool but some other tool will be activated instead (because I was not aware that I the move tool was already active and then I start something completely different like writing a text or paint. Unbelievable confusing for me. And frustrating because of unnecessary clicks and thoughts about "why".

But I am looking forward to have a simple preference setting in the near future for it also. :)

Thanks again for the overall genius software package you already have delivered to us,
    Stefan.

I'm so glad I found this thread!  I had no idea that automatic constraining was optional.  :D

I had grown accustomed to this behavior because it makes perfect sense, but than I selected multiple images and everything fell apart. Apparently, if you select more than one object with inherent aspect ratio (text, image, etc.) this "rule" disappears.  Very confusing.

It's wonderful to know that this can be disabled. Thanks!  :)

    A_B_C,

thanks a lot for showing me this "hidden" option in preferences!

    But two things:
First: no, I did not choose "Automatic" - it's the default option. But you showed my exactly what I was looking for. :)
Second: I still consider the default behavior ("Automatic") as inconsistent if I compare point 1.) and 2.) and when it comes to point 3.) I prefer to say "buggy".

Anyway - no-one must program or fix something ... the settings option makes it work for yo, for me, for everyone. In this case it might be interesting if the default is a good one (make more than 50% of the users happy) AND/OR how to let the users know, that they can influence this behavior by changing their settings. Not everyone is a forum member and complains like me. :D

    Cheers,
    Stefan.

    Hi,

I just discovered the following inconsistent behavior:

    1.1) create e.g. a rectangle
1.2) grab e.g. the bottom right handle to scale the rectangle
    >> the rectangle can be scaled freely ( as expected )

1.3) grab e.g. the bottom right handle to scale the rectangle BUT use Shift
    >> the rectangle can only be scaled with aspect ratio ( as expected )
same behavior with 2 rectangles     a single image has the opposite behavior:   2.1) place an image 2.2) grab e.g. the bottom right handle to scale the image >> the image can only be scaled with aspect ratio ( that's unusual and NOT what I expected )
2.3) now with Shift  >> the image can be scaled freely  ( that's unusual and NOT what I expected )
3.) whereas 2 images behave as expected (vice versa)     Thanks, Stefan.

It's worse than that. I've just imported some brushes into Affinity Designer on Windows, and when I tried to open a document I was taken to the same folder where the .afbrushes file was located. (As it happens, there was a PDF file related to the brushes which I had imported, but that wasn't the document I was looking for.)

    Hi folks,

I love apps that remember the last used folder, like AD.

But I even more love apps, that remember several last used folders, e.g. for "open file" / "place file" / "export file". Unfortunately AD mixes it.

IMO the likelihood that users import / open files from a different folder than they export their files is much higher than using the same folder.

Even not - having this "feature" would only speed up the workflow of those who use different folders. For those who don't mind/care or use different folders - would not be affected. They wouldn't even notice it.

    Thanks a lot,
    Stefan.

I believe there's a technical reason for this behaviour/restriction (multiple selections), but have to check it out.
