  1. Thanx to all of you for sharing your knowledge and your work. @A_B_C: that's really smart. ;)
  2. Hi MEB, I never felt or have seen my type of input devalued by your reply. :) And that the input fields accept math operations I really like. I have seen and used it in other programs before (Maya, Touch Creator). But I still see no disadvantage, if AD would prevent an initial "user-type-in-error". By one of the mentioned suggestions. In any case you can still "add 10 px to the width of an object or scale it 25%" as you said. Quite the opposite. You can start typing immediately your desired math operations without thinking or checking where you have put your mouse cursor.
  3. Hi, first of all - I already love Affinity Designer, bought it and think I have to do so with Affinity Photo as well, even I don't need it, but to support the continuous development on Affinity software :) But I have a problem with the default behavior of selecting a group when hitting an object that is parented to a group. I see the point of having this feature. For example an icon, that consists of different shapes, combined within a group. Good. But groups are also perfect for organizing your layers if you have countless objects. The current AD workflow "forces" me to either not using any groups or user CMD to select an object. I can only speak for myself - but this causes an "Arrrgh" to me every time. :D In my opinion it is more likely that a user wants to click on an object without selecting its parent group. But even it is not the way I think - the workflow would be so much more efficient if you could decide what a click selects. Either the object or its group. Suggested solutions to make everyone happy: 1.) Have an additional tool option (a click selects: object / group / layer) - see Photoshop 2.) make it customizable via preferences/tools (as it is for "how to select an object: via hitting its bounding box or including the whole object) 3.) make it customizable via shortcuts select object: click select group: CMD+click ... Yes, I have seen threads here, discussing how the selection works. I don't find CMD-click very handy or intuitive. And even more I dislike the double-click, which is always 1 click more than I would really need to do. >>> Have you tried to double-click on text objects within a group? Sometimes it works and the text objet is selected. Sometimes not. The text object is selected but the cursor is activated so that you can start typing, what I don't wanted to do. So I have to additionally hit "Esc" which is another click I could easily save in my normal workflow. >>> What happens right after you have hit "Esc"? The text tool is automatically activated. So I have to click on "V" which is another unnecessary click. And then I have to try the same process once again, from the beginning. So in the end lots of clicks for nothing.
  4. Making Affinity Designer even better

  5. YES gpparker put it straight. And I'm also missing a kind of "isolated view" which I was used to use in "Alias Wavefront Maya" already 10 years ago would also a brilliant feature in AD. Without changing the current Show/Hide settings of all the layers, groups and objects - just have the possibility to (via shortcut & right mouse menu) toggle the normal view into an isolated view, where only the selected objects are shown. (if nothing is selected - you cannot switch the view OR it just shows an empty document). In Maya it worked not only object-based. It was also component-based. Brilliant. Exactly what you need in a mass of objects/components.
  6. Hi MEB, thanks for your answer. 1.) You are right. It works to click on the label of an input field to change the input field value. BUT: 1a) I have never seen this functionality / way to jump into an input field in another program - so it is very unusual and not intuitive 1b) this feature is heavily inconsequent implemented. In "Deckkraft", "Absatz", "Kontur Gehrung", "Shortcuts", "Attributes of LayerFX" ... it is not working (same with the usage of click-drag on the label) so in the end its frustrating and its making me "think" instead of "just working" 1c) where do you see the advantage of the current functionality (possibility) to be able to click (by accident) between e.g. "px" or right after "px" and start typing your value? It leads only to a non-accepted user input 1d) yes - triple click works too ... but to be honest - clicking once is three times faster then triple-click. It would save a lot of work-time. I see no disadvantage to change the current behavior by the following alternatives to let the user start typing immediately: 2a) mark the value 2b) mark the value incl. unit 2c) mark the value and hide the unit - but let the user decide if he wants to make an exact input by typing e.g. 120% or 46pt or 30px or what ever - AD (AP) could easily calculate the corresponding value and display it right after hitting enter
  7. Hi folks, it would be nice and time saving, if I could define a shortcut for the brilliant function "find in panel layers" (thanks a lot for that, btw) Stefan.
  8. Dear dev team, thanks a lot for your work and the implementation of layer fx which work great. But why are you „hiding“ your work from the user? ;) It would help a lot, save clicks, and make more fun to explore all layer fx if their default values would be set in a way, that they show up in a nice way if enabled. At least that the user can see what happens or gets an idea of it if the fx is activated. e.g.: „Gauche Unschärfe“ Why is it set to 0px? If I enable that layer fx - nothing happens. So I am „forced“ to move the mouse to the radius slider or input field and type in something at least to see an effect. In this case a default value like „2px“ would be great. You can only win :D Maybe 1 of 1000 is satisfied with „2px“. There are definitely more users out there who are please with „2px“ then with „0px“ which leads to no effect. Same with inner shadow, outer shadow, …. and all the other layer fx which have „0“ radius etc. which leads to no effect at all. Thanks for your time, Stefan.
  9. Hi all, it would speed up the workflow of exporting several slices out of a bunch of slices - if it would be possible to export the highlighted slices only - see picture: blue rows. Because it is very fast to use the mouse and Shift to select several slices at once ... but there is no option to export those then. The most easy implementation for it might be an entry in the RMB menu. ;) Thank you so much for reading and thinking about it, Stefan.
  10. Hi folks, sometimes I stuck / loose time by the current input field behavior: 1. click into e.g: transformation x - input field 2. if not exactly hitting the correct position, something "stupid" can happen, like my typed value appears between the unit or after it >> which leads to a "no change result" workaround: press CMD+A and start typing All I want to do is: start typing my desired value without thinking or pressing CMD+A before. Do you think you can mark the value (value+unit) when clicking into an input field by default? I guess the percentage of use cases where users want to type in a whole new value instead of exactly clicking between 2 numbers is much higher. And the functionality of modifying the value step by step via up/down or Shift+up/Shift-down will be preserved. So I see only a benefits. Thanks a lot for that great piece of software so far! :) Stefan.
  11. Hi, just a cosmetic request: color field can be renamed in the window "color fields" via RMB (A in picture)... but in the window "color" there is the name of the color field displayed but not editable (B in picture). For me it would makes it easier to click/double click on that name and have the rename-function there as well. Just saves some second lifetime to not to press RMB and search for the desired option :) Thanks a lot for that great piece of software so far.
  12. Hi, I am new to AD but used PS/AI a lot and I have problem in work efficiency / speed when it comes to selecting objects. Normally I press "V" and I can be sure that I am in the move tool and start to click-drag a marquee selection. Unfortunately in AD I'm not. Because if the move tool is already active - "V" toggles to the last used tool. And if I start my click-drag action to create the marquee selection - something other happens, e.g. I paint or what tool is ever active then. I would be very happy find an option in the preferences to prevent that behavior. Thanks a lot, Stefan.
  13. if AD has crashed ... I get automatically prompted by an OS X crash dialog. Does it make sense to report that log file to Apple? Will it be forwarded to Serif/Affinity Designer developer team automatically? Or should I report this crash directly to the support/dev team instead?
  14. Currently the visibility toggle is at the end of the layers-row. In my opinion the UX could be much better, if the toggle would come first. Not because of other programs have it there . It has to do with our reading-direction. If the toggle would be in first place - the user can read the layer names, move the mouse cursor, toggle visibility, all at a glance. In case of having it at the end (status quo), I am always lost after toggling the visibility of a layer. My eyes have to "go back" to the left to find again the layers names, find the next desired layer and then "go back" to the right to toggle the visibility. And so on. see picture (left: status quo vs. right: should be)
  15. Hi guys, according to the following waring: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE BE AWARE - If you have not already run Beta 9 or 10, this version will reset all your settings. If you have already run Beta 9 or 10 then it will not. Please make sure that if you have created any palettes, styles, assets, brushes, etc in the current beta that you export them in the current version first BEFORE installing this beta otherwise you will lose them. This was unfortunately necessary for the Beta 9 build and should hopefully not be required again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 1: I can see an export option for e.g. brushes, palette ... but not for symbols. I wonder if I have don't have to do it with symbols. Question 2 / Improvement: Is there an "easier" way to export everything, e.g. via folder? A function in the preferences could be helpful to see all the export possibilities at a glance, what can be exported, where to, etc.
  16. I tried the 1.5 Bet of AD because I liked to work with the new symbols feature. During that, a bug occurred, which is reproducible: 1. create a rectangle 2. make it a symbol 3. select the "real symbol object" - the child-object in layers 4. make this also a symbol result: - the thumbs of the symbols are gone - the thumbs of the objects in layers are gone - the canvas is empty - no selectable objects in the canvas anymore This state will be saved within document.

  18. the possibility to Click & Hold and move the mouse over other visibility checkboxes to hide/show other layers, as it's in Photoshop, I really miss a lot
