  1. Hokusai, you are right. As a client I would think so ... but my problem is: my work. I was used to do so over the last years. Whenever I had to work with AI I did my work inside and outside of the artboard / print area (for all the prework, trials, variations etc.). I was thinking about this problem ... and asked myself if it isn't solvable by manipulating the artboard/document dimension to the max during import process. Because we speak about the .AI file which contains all the object. And if I open AI and set the document dimension manually to "the maximum" and save the file > the afterward import progress of AD is perfect. Cheer, Stefan.
  2. I expected that function in the RMB context menu as well. Just for completeness reasons and if you are working in the UI-less mode.
  3. Hi guys, it would be great the have the functionality of a "recent command list" / "repeat last command" When I found and used this function in Alias Wavefront Maya, which must be 15 years ago - I felt in love with it. With that function you could easily have a look on your last used "commands" (not select or deselect) e.g delete object, scale, rotate, translate, duplicate, group, ... It assists and speeds up your workflow if only because you don't have to keep in mind your values for e.g. font-size, stroke-width, color, ... Just open your list (for example via RMB context menu or extra floating window like "symbols" / "history") and choose one of your last actions on the current selection. see also: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/Revit-Model/files/GUID-B0C50D1C-6A4C-4F9A-A418-0AEE07BC940B-htm.html
  4. Shame on me. AD already can. 5.39 am was obviously to too late in the evening to find this function myself. Thanks A_B_C! But it still would speed up the workflow if you could drag n drop swatches directly into the color field ( I got my act together :) ).
  5. Hi, color fields are cool and have their benefits. That's why I would definitely like to use them in the layer fx as well. But until now, I couldn't find a way to do so (drag n drop ). Thanx a lot, Stefan.
  6. Hi folks, I love apps that remember the last used folder, like AD. But I even more love apps, that remember several last used folders, e.g. for "open file" / "place file" / "export file". Unfortunately AD mixes it. IMO the likelihood that users import / open files from a different folder than they export their files is much higher than using the same folder. Even not - having this "feature" would only speed up the workflow of those who use different folders. For those who don't mind/care or use different folders - would not be affected. They wouldn't even notice it. Thanks a lot, Stefan.
  7. So it would save you the mouse movement to the field and a double click too :)
  8. Hi all, what you think about the following: when I click on "Kontur" (see image: A) I wanna change the stroke width in nearly nine times out of ten. That's why I would love to have the input field already selected (marked value - see B in the attached picture). So that it would be possible to immediately start to manipulate the value with e.g. cursor up/down or typing in your desired value. Suppose that it would have been implemented that way ... users who wanna work like I described would be happy. Users who are not interested in using cursor up/down to immediately manipulate the value aren't interrupted in their workflow in this way, are they? Thanks in advance, Stefan.
  9. Hi, it would be great to have the same functionality for show/hide layer effect by using the modifier SHIFT as it is already implemented for layer masks Thanks in advance, :) Stefan.
  10. Hi Hokusai, that would be ... I really really hope that there will be a better way of importing AI files. If you will need Illustrator to make sure you can fully use your work or client files - then I can continue to use Illustrator. But I don't like that idea. :) I'll keep my fingers crossed. Stefan.
  11. Hi all, I definitely miss some options when I import my old AI files. At the moment AD only imports the objects that are placed within the document area. Nothing that is placed around / outside the work area/document area. So each time I want to open my old Adobe Illustrator files I have to open AI, move all my objects into the work area OR just change the document to a huge area so that every object will be covered, to get sure that AD imports my work. It would save sooooooooo much time, if I could choose an import option like "all" (or just ignore AI art board settings) and get as much as possible. And as long as AD imports Illustrator files like that, I need to have Adobe Illustrator installed. What I definitely don't want. Thank you so much for thinking about that option. Cheers, Stefan.
  12. Hi all, that kind of function/button would speed up workflow :) Cheers, Stefan.
  13. Hi MEB :D Now that I know that I have to use layers to organize my files. At least it works much easier for me because of the selection issue we talked about here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/24436-select-object-instead-of-its-parent-group/ I would really like to see a functionality to convert a group into a layer and vice versa. (As long as there is no "select object" ...) ...it could be helpful if you have to re-think and or reorganize all of your former work (imported .PSDs, etc). ;) Thanks a lot, Stefan
  14. Hi folks, I have the following workflow improvement if it comes to create a new layer. The status quo is, that a new layer will be put on top - in first place of the document hierarchy. If you are working with files that contain more than 10 objects and some hierarchy levels it would definitely speed up workflow if the new layer would be placed beside the current selection (like it is done if you duplicate your selection). Because: 1.) it is more likely that I want to create a new layer in the hierarchy level where my selection is than always on top of everything. 2.) it takes much longer to reorganize the hierarchy if you want to put your newly created layer from the top position into the area of your current selection vice versa it is very very easy if the user wants to have the new layer created on to - just by clicking on the element which is currently at the top :) So I see more advantages to implement it like the "duplicate layer" function has already been implemented. UPDATE I just figured out that creating a "new pixel layer" works exactly as I would expect and like it: the "new pixel layer" is always placed beside the current selection in hierarchy. Whereas "create new layer" has the the following inconsistence, somehow it reacts "context-sensitive" - means, it follows some rules but I don't get the point. I see it as a bug: 3.1) select a child-object within a layer - the new created layer jumps outside the parent layer and is positioned next (over) it 3.2) select a child-object within a group - the new created layer will be placed at the top of the documents hierarchy 3.3) if you are in the root-level and a layer is selected > the new created layers will be placed next to the selection 3.4) if you are in the root-level and a group is selected > the new created layers will be placed at the top of the documents hierarchy
  15. Hello, I would like to have this "nice-to-have" feature: an ellipsis for names (of objects, layers, groups) in layers window. If you put it on your list, see also: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/24596-ellipsis-per-default-in-the-middle/ :) Thanks for your work and passion to create that piece of software at all, Stefan.
  16. Hey guys, I don't know if I'm totally wrong, but see slightly advantages of having ellipsis per default in the middle of names. Especially on filenames. Maybe that's why Apple uses ellipsis in its Finder also in the middle of the filenames. I'm sure you can change it - but I haven't had any reason to do so since years. I would say it is more likely to have names like: "wizardMockup_01" "wizardMockup_02" "wizardMockup_03" or Affinity Designer Beta 1.5.9 Affinity Designer Beta 1.5.10 Affinity Designer Beta 1.5.11 So that names can be read much better if the ellipsis is not in the and, like it is in AD (in AP I guess too) If you don't think it would make sense of all users - put it into the preferences. :)
  17. Hi Callum, really? It is done by design? But where is the purpose? status quo - if the "Modularer Modus" is not active: I see all my open documents as tabs. I can use ctrl+tab to switch between them. But in menu "window" I got prompted a "false situation" - in fact: there is only one document. Plus an inconsistent UI situation: if I want to jump to another open file via mouse I have to use the document-tabs. I cannot choose my desired file from menu window. On top of that: if you have lots of opened files - you cannot read their names very well. Especially if the ellipsis is at the end of the name. So for long names the menu window is always a very nice way to choose your desired file. But you cannot do so if "Modularer Modus" is not running. So I don't see any advantage of the status quo.
  18. 1) Open several documents 2.1) if you use "Modularer Modus" - you will find all of your opened documents at the bottom of the window menu 2.2) if you do not use "Modularer Modus" - you will only find your current selected opened document see pics Is it a bug or a feature? Thanks, Stefan
  19. Hi folks, I couldn't find an option to expand / collapse all child-groups/child-layers when pressing the little arrow button in front of a group/layer that contains child objects. I know this function from Phxxxxxop, and used it a lot to rapidly collapse all expanded child-elements and quickly get an better overview of the layer hierarchy. Phxxxxxop provides that functionality by pressing alt+click. And if you have used it - the next alt-click causes the opposite (e.g. expand all). I liked and used it quite often. Cheers guy, Stefan.
  20. Hey MattP, you're welcome. I really like to "be a part of the development" of AD by reporting bugs and discuss feature requests. It reminds me of my last job I quit after 5 years. I was in luck to concept the UI of a software product called "Touch Creator". In addition, I had to use that tool for my job their as well. So as a graphic and interface designer I was interested in making it good looking as well as intuitive and easy to use. I stood in close cooperation with the dev team and used that application a lot for my job at that company. Now I see lots of parallels: I purchased AD to have an software package to use for my new job as a freelance graphic- and interface designer. And with every reported bug and discussion about features and improvements it makes "my" new daily tool better and better. :) So I have to thank you, for your awesome fast bug fixings and high frequent beta builds. I am really looking forward to have all software packages (Designer, Photo and Publisher) integrated into my workflow in the near future and have no need to use any Adxxx product anymore. That would be fantastic. A big thanks to all of you, Stefan.
  21. Hi MEB, once again - thanks for your feedback, your work, your patience, your suggestions, hints and tips. I love that. And I see your points, I follow your tips and give them a try too. I don't think that there must be any changes to the selection of node's objects which messes the hierarchy logic. Why? Because the functionality is already implemented. I can use CMD+click or double-click. All I would prefer is, to not to CMD-click or double-click by default. Make is customizable. Leave it to the user. ;) Especially they are coming from 10years usage of Phxxxxxop. And I still believe, that Phxxxxxop gives a very nice and easy-to-access way to customize exactly that functionality - see picture. The AD default would be something like "Auto-Select" on and the category is set to group. In my case I just would deselect the checkbox "Auto-Select". MEB, thanks for your time, Stefan.
  22. Yes it works ... but I found the following issues relating this bug/post: First one is a cosmetic bug( see picture 1): 1.1 create a symbol 1.2 click on create symbol which is already a symbol, it won't be added to symbol library (good) but to the history. But each time I click - creates a history step. Without reason. It should do nothing in the history. But second one is an "advanced" and very similar bug behavior to the fixed one: 2.1. I selected both symbols (not via canvas) 2.2 I hit "create symbol" - that (still) leads to have a symbol created out of a symbol (in this case: 2 symbols) 2.3 now I used the 4th symbol of the library (second green rectangle) and draged it into the canvas 2.4 I deleted the new object Then I had a very similar situation as described in my first report (empty layer object, none-clickable object in canvas, kaput symbol object in symbol library) Thanx and sorry for the inconvenience, Stefan.
  23. Hi MEB, thanks a lot - I think I will do so and use layers for organizing. BUT then it would help to speed up the general workflow, if there would be the following new functionality (just similar to groups): If objects are selected: 1.1) the new layer contains the selected objects automatically as children OR 1.2) AD provides a confirmation dialog to decide in that case how to handle it (to have this dialog in a comfortable way, give it a "Don't ask again - remember function" which can be altered any time in the preferences) OR 1.3) create a second "new layer functions" which creates the new layer as a parent-layer of all selected objects (exactly the same as in Mac Finder) AND 2.1) provide an "ungroup"-equivalent to easily get selected objects out of their parent layer But I would still prefer to have an extra tool option as it is provided in Photoshop (sorry to use that name here again ;) ) as described in my first post. I see it as a very clear and intuitive way to make "both kinds of users" happy with just one option.
