  1. Hi all, I cannot find the information of the dimension of my selection. If I use the rectangle marquee tool around my design - I supposed to see the dimension of the current selection in the transformation panel, or in the navigator. But there is none. Because now I have to "guess" and create my artboards by eye, move the content of my mockup into the artboard and adjust the artboard afterwards. Thanks, Stefan.
  2. The system of indicating that a symbol instance has been modified is cool. But it works currently only on the child-objects of a symbol, right? Means: a dashed orange stripe will only be on child objects. If I remove a child object within an instance and turn back sync ... the symbol itself (which has the orange gradient strip) does not indicate in any way, that it is different to the original symbols.
  3. Thanks markw, for pointing to this video here. It's a short and very clear one about symbols in general. Nice!
  4. +1 Yes! I just wanted to create the same feature request. At least, give the user the option to choose, if they want to propagate the new name to all instances, for example: 1. via popUp if I rename a symbol: a popup dialog could ask, if I only wanna rename the symbol (in the symbol panel) so that future symbols will use that name OR if I wanna have all instances renamed (the dialog could have an option box for remembering the users choice but could be altered in the preferences at any time afterwards of course) 2. via options / preferences 3. via two separate options in the contextMenu of a symbol (rename symbol + rename symbol and instances) Thanks guys for taking time to read and think about it. Stefan.
  5. Hi folks, it there any kind of reward system for your customers and product users who report bugs and do useful posts? Every now and then, when I work on professional projects, for example in AD, I will be confronted by issues that stop being productive. Then I catch myself trying to reproduce the bug + creating a screening of it + creating a post + uploading my files etc. ... so doing valuable stuff. I know, each fixed bug and logged feature request will improve future version of AD, AP. So that would be reward enough. In my case I have several tiny, small workflow improvements on my list, that would be great if they were fixed, but maybe never be considered of ... because of the huge amount of things on your lists ... I just asked myself if there could be some kind of reward system (points reporters could collect by their help/support of creating, depending on the quality etc.)? And if there is another fixing-day for "smaller" issues, requests - those have a bigger weight, something like that. Just an idea of getting even more motivated to invest time and support you with high quality posts. Cheers, Stefan.
  6. Hi RC-R, no I haven't thought about creating a symbol out of an artboard yet. Interesting point. But somehow it can't be really "the way" to aim that goal. But I could give it at least a try. Although I know that I will get in trouble with that method. Sometimes "it happens" that I have a symbol and one of its child object I have altered in a way that it is unique - it has different attributes than the other symbols. That state will be prompted by AD (a dashed orange line instead of the normal orange line). Which is nice. But AD does not give any information what exactly is the difference. That happened a lot during my work on my last project. And as a result I had lots of re-use symbols, position then, scale them etc. If I image that I went the way you suggested (which sounds nice) I see a lot of work (if those non-obvious differences between the symbols happen) by using the artboard(symbol) again to have a clean version again - but then to redo all the needed obvious modifications (like you have said (turning off sync, alter elements, logo ... what ever). That's at least what my brain says. ;) Stefan
  7. Hi MEB, thank you so much for your effort. I really appreciate it But: What if the changes aren't obvious at all? Why do I have to play Sherlock Holmes :) and digging into the symbols hierarchy (which is not just one geometric object with a fill color) and compare my "dashed-symbol" with a "virgin symbol" manually? I don't get the point, that AD is smart enough to show me, that there is a difference, but: 1. does not "tell" me which one(s) and 2. there is no button, no function, no context menu option to "reset" / "undo" this difference (means: no way to turn it back as an virgin symbol again. This is missing.
  8. Some kind of "paste in place" is heavily needed here as well. If you have artboards of the same dimensions, because you mockup several screens for an app or something like that, It would save sooooooooo much time if you can copy and paste an element from one artboard to another without setting the transformation values manually afterwards. That's really stressful if you have to do it in 10 artboards again and again for several objects.
  9. Hi all, I have a "problem" with the current "open recent file" behavior. status quo: - if "file ABC" has been opened and you step into the open recent file menu, choose that file, nothing happens - I see the point, because it is already open BUT if you have altered the file that behavior does not make sense anymore. It even confuses and causes unnecessary clicks if you want to get the file in its original state. BECAUSE - nothing happens if you have chosen to (re)open "file ABC" By other programs I am heavily used to the behavior that I will be prompted by a file dialog (offering the cancel, save change before the file will be loaded or open without saving the modification). That's exactly what I expected here. Cheers, Stefan
  10. Hi MEB, ok I understand ... but because of I did't click on "Sync" to break the connection to the original symbol I musts have been a color modification. Now my questions are: 1. Where are the differences? 2. How can I see / find them? 3. How can I turn these modifications back ? Get the symbol back into a sync-state??? Stefan.
  11. Hi, I have learned that a symbol is marked as symbol by getting the suffix "(Symbol)" but also by getting an orange stripe on the left in the layers panel. But what means a dashed stripe (see "logo banner" in the screenshot)? Thanks, Stefan.
  12. The difference between the function you described ( alt+click on a thumb will isolate the the layer in the canvas/the view - it is a view-related function). What alsarraf in his initial post described is layer-related. Means: it alters the visibility of the scene and not only the view.
  13. +1 a huge: YES! I'm totally missing any option to organize the symbols, like: - sorting (automatically by name, create date or manually) - replace (like QuietDesign mentioned above) would be a great time saver. But I would go a step further - not only replacing a symbol by another symbol - just any object could be replaced. In my workflow it happens often, that I create e.g. a logo or whatever, duplicate an artboard go on with my work ... and on some point I realize that it would be better to have that object (logo) as a symbol would be great. Currently I can create a symbol out of one of my used logos but have to replace each one afterwards with the symbol. That has a big potential to save work time, if I just have to select all desired object and popup the context menu and choose an option like "replace by symbol" - that's it.
  14. Thank you so much MEB! It's like you said - I must use the lowest handle to scale the logo. That's it. My fault.
  15. Hi, I've the following scaling issue: I have a logo that consists of several shapes and 2 text paths. The logo is used as a symbol, in different layouts for mobile and web screens. How can I scale the logo including its child-objects (the 2 text on paths), without loosing the correct visual appearance of the logo? If I scale the logo (the whole object) down: - the text wraps around the curves (as it is described in the AD help) - that means I have my big logo (which looks good) a smaller logo with to large text, so I have to modify the text separately on the smaller logo (the instance of the symbol). But if I do so, I loose the correct visualization on the other symbols (the original, the bigger ones). And vice versa. An infinite loop... 1.) I need an option like "scale with object" as it exists for layerFX or 2.) the default scaling behavior of text on paths must be like that Thanks a lot for your time, your ideas, your help, Stefan.
  16. Hi Chris, I attached some examples (see my previous post) I experienced with the latest version of AD. The issue is still happening. Thanks for your time, Stefan
  17. Hi Chris, the issue is still there ... (AD 1.5.4) and happens for e.g. font size, color/swatch/gradient... Any chance to get this fixed in upcoming 1.6 ? As long as I have to work on a single screen (MacBook only) it is punishing to move away or reorganize "my tool menus" to get access for some popUp menus that are not rendered on top of these. I would really appreciate it, Stefan AD_Bug_UIBehindFloatingWindow.mov
  18. Eiiii ... really? That's too bad. It costs so much time to click and translate each point separately - and get the tangents as tweaked as well. So is this feature on the roadmap already? And when will it be implemented? Thanks MEB for your fast reply. Cheers, Stefan.
  19. Hi guys, I cannot find a way to rotate / scale if I have several curve points selected (see screenshot), which makes the way to work with a bunch of points exhausting. I'm sure I just have overlooked it didn't found it in the forum as well. Thanks for your help, Stefan
  20. Dear Affinity team, is this a fake or is it real? www.techradar.com/news/downloads-advent-calendar-get-serif-affinity-photo-free-today Thanks, Stefan.
  21. Hi hawk, sure, a modifier would be much easier - BUT: thanks a lot for your hint. I really did not know, that the functionality has already been implemented, because in my German version this functionality has been named(translated) with "Auswahl erweitern" and "Auswahl reduzieren". To be honest, I would not have been aspected this functionality behind these two option. So thanks a lot for mentioning this. And I still hope that one day (nearly) every function of the app will be customizable with shortcuts. Cheers and, thanks hawk.
  22. It feels great to know it helped you out and it will save you a lot of work. I love this forum. :)
