In all Affinity (Designer/Photo/Publisher) products during the update/upgrade from 1.8.x to 1.9.0 a "COM Surrogate" error can appear on Windows.
Solution
- Uninstall the 1.8.xxx on the system
- Reboot the System
- Start the installer(s) again
for me this has helped.

Thanks for helping to push this feature. We still miss it too. The more people ask for it, the sooner it will hopefully be implemented through Affinity.

This works really well and is great for the black channel to check whether only black is used. Thanks for this nice tip.
I would like this channel tab to be available globally across all three Affinity products.And finaly, the integration of the softproof function ;)

This is not 100% correct: in each beta you can see what the devteam has been done and where the final is going. For example here:

However, we would like to give Affinity a chance and would rather spend the money here and not to Adobe.
From our point of view, the softprood function is the last one where is needed for our work. So push again

But 1.7.3 has been released this monday. This feature described here probably had no place in this release. Where can I see that this has been forwarded to the dev team?
At the moment I am hesitating to give the publisher the purchase recommendation. On the one hand because of this important function, on the other hand how it communicates. For private use, the software is great, as you like to take a small missing features in purchase. But for daily use, publisher needs a lot of time to replace adobe or others.
The basis for private or temporary designers is now given. I think the pros must now be emphasized in the development. Please put a focus on the monitor proof function and implement it decently.

PS: Minimum 10 and later manny more purchase licenses you can have, is profile proof over all sites available. I think not bad for one company with the option of more. -
This is a feedback thread. No support thread...
Anyway... The proposed workaround is not optimal. If you, like me, I create more designs and documents on a day. A button or a menu entry with a shortcut to turn on / off would be a huge help.
I had already communicated this to the developer many months ago in Affinity Photo, then in Designer. Now also in Publisher. Hope this problem gets the attention of the developers.Nevertheless, thank you both for the ideas
thumbs up EDIT: My Workaround is export to PDF/X and soft proof in Acrobat Pro. But, whenever I have corrected something, the PDF has to be re-exported. It is not optimal, but it works fine with several pages.

How can I perform a soft proof on my calibrated monitor? About all pages in the document?
With the current softproof function, this only applies to the current page. Not suitable for the control of several pages. Please insert the soft proof as a menu item that will help us to check all pages.
Additionally, please also integrate the CMYK or spot color separation as a preview. As in Affinity Photo, we can hide the channels (eye icon), such as black, and check them before exporting to PDF/X for the print shop or large printing.
These two functions help us a lot in the team. It helps to produce not wrong print data. Please do not wait for it.

We can't do Documentation without this feature, and optional in combination with APub, for the Company's. Please give us an option or implement it.

Edit: Can you add an option for test the separion in Publisher? i dont find it. I use for separation controlling Affinity Photo to load the print pdf.

CMYK Shadow on a object with only K color and multiply with a Background. Dont work. It's only black color and space out others.

Thank you i hope. It's also an Bug in AF Designer. My bug reporting in Designer is a long time bevore (2017) but, i think he have this in the fix pipline. That this bug no designer has seen or disturbed, am always surprising me.

And Tiff is an old, not flexible or perfect fileformat. I d'not us it at 10 or 15 Jears a go. I know, other countries like to use this. And, even older formats... also some stupides SWOP formats, for the colors. I struggle every day with such outdated... unfortunately and hopelessly... USA, first... forget it. Not in the printing branche. Sorry, for the last line, it's fact not my personal opinion.Thank you

Here and also in Designer is a color separation Bug at placed 8bit greyscale images.
After export to PDF/X-3 für the printing company, the 8bit greyscal image convert to CMYK color space, not to the correct greyscale space. Mor information in the File.

Thank you for the Beta. I's good to now, you go forward.
Please ad the follow:
- Bleed (please ad an optical view like lines, also in Affiny Designer, i asked you early)- Overflow Text (like a red dot in the lower right, or by export, in a big error message: Hey you see not the hole Text...)
- Missing Pictures or Document links? We have no information over it. Like open a older document. Ad a warning?
- Spearation for CMYK (switching in optical view and have a % about the CMYK-Number's, also in Affinity Designer). This is important. We want controll over it before we export for PDF/X-3. We want also if the placed or linked picture a greyscale, this will be exportet as this... not as a CMYK or RGB. A black Picture, is black in the channel (k) for print and not a mix of all 4 colors.- Monitorproof... i dont now, how i can do this in Publisher. We as a company work with Printingservices around the world. It's important we have a point tats say us, we with the colors right.

Nein... Da Dein erster Post in diesem Thread und nur für Dich, daher auch begründet.
Anscheinend hast Du nicht verstanden warum es geht. Nur weil Du lieber keine Freizeit hast, ständig irgend was gestalten oder kreativ sein musst und das auch unterwegs, soll ich Dich nicht über meine Erfahrung (25+ Jahre) und Nachteile damit hinweisen? Nebenbei, Dein Workflow oder Kreativität interessiert hier so ziemlich keinen. Willst Du Dich abackern für nichts? Bitte schön, gerne auch in Deiner Freizeit. Willst Du von Deine privaten Büro in's Wohnzimmer wechseln, auch gut. Es geht nicht nahtlos und der Nachteil gegenüber dem grösseren Büro-Display überwiegt.Du hast keine Ahnung wie lange wir auf Publisher gewartet haben. Nun ist die Beta draussen und was hat sich getan? Kein optisch dargestelltes Bleed. Kein optisch ersichtlich oder per Hinweis falls Übersatztext in einem Ramen vorhanden ist. Keine Separationsvorschau. Erneut, wie schon bei AFD.
So, und da Du's nun vielleicht verstanden hast, eventuell auch nicht, wünsche ich Dir trotztem alles Gute für Dich und Deine Zukunft. Eventuell denkst ja in ein paar Jahren an mich, vermutlich jedoch nicht -

Ich persönlich freue mich auf Publisher, sogar enorm. Noch mehr würde ich mich freuen, wenn die durch mich eingereichten Problem behoben werden. Unter anderem gehören dazu: Importierte Graustufen-Bilder sind nach dem Export keine mehr, im Export nach PDF, zeigt mir Acrobat Pro, es sind 4-farben. Farbverläufe welche von 100% zu 0% schwarz (K) reichen, sind nach dem Export auf einmal CMYK, und nicht nur K. Behebt das bitte, wir Designer brauchen Kontrolle.
Es ist schön zu sehen, dass die letzten Wochen laut Newsletter, für Euch fantastisch waren. Ich hab jedoch keine Benachrichtigung oder irgend ein Feedback von Euch erhalten, wie: «Problem bekannt, Problem behoben, oder was auch immer». Es scheint mir so, dass ihr lieber für Mobilgeräte entwickelt. Die Leute die Euch eigentlich damals unterstützen, mit dem Kauf auch die Entwicklung finanzieren, immer mehr in den Hintergrund «gedrehten werden». Durch Euch.

Auch wurde versprochen dass diese Mobil-Device-Teams unabhängig funktionieren. Nun wann genau waren die letzten Updates für Desktop APhoto & ADesigner bzw. Beta für APublisher? Ja, ich denke ihr habt uns angelogen. Bedenke wer das liest, wir reden hier nicht von 1, 2 oder 3 Jahren. Nein ich bin viel länger dabei.
@Affiny: Sagt mir also, warum sollte ich Euch weiter entfehlen?

PS: Diese Nachricht wird auch in Eurem Forum publiziert. Ihr habt also zwei Antwortmöglichkeiten. Die erste ist öffentlich, da ich nicht der einzige bin der das ganze aufgefallen ist, die zweite ist auf diese Nachricht, und vor allem auf meine unbeantworteten Fragen selbst zu antworten. Ich empfehle die erste Variante. Da Statement. Falls erneut keine Antwort, wir diskutieren es gerne über Reddit oder andere Kanäle.

Denkt ihr wirklich dass es Leute gibt, die nach einem z.B. 10h Arbeitstag nach Hause fahren und unterwegs das kleine 10 Zoll Tablet in die Hand nehmen, um weiter daran zu Arbeiten? Denkt ihr wirklich, dass 10 Zoll ein 32 Zoll 4k Monitor ersetzen? Denkt ihr wirklich dass die Freizeit, oder der Arbeitsweg dafür gedacht sind Produktiver zu Arbeiten? Nun, Ihr liegt falsch. Das muss ich nicht mal begründen. Geschweige denn ein 10 Zoll iPad als Hauptmediumausgabe. Die Frage erübrigt sich schlichtweg. Meine Freizeit möchte ich nicht hergeben. Du hast gerade eine Idee für das Projekt? Sehr schön, die kann warten, die muss nicht unterwegs festgehalten werden. Du hast eine Idee in deinen Ferien? Spitze, sende Dir selber eine Erinnerung und schaue diese erst nach dem Urlaub an. Du brauchst keine App. Du brauchst Freiraum um Kreativ zu sein.

Create 4 Artbords with individual Content. Print it... only 1 Artboard are print, not all 4.
Please give us this option for print more than 1 Artboard. The Workflow over a PDF Export works, but is no solution.

Update Error - COM Surrogate

I press OK and the next Message pop up: "Error". An the install close.
At any time. In the Task Manager the software is still there. So it will not end automatically. I also closed the COM software manually. But then only the message "Error" appears in the installer.
The only thing that helps is to completely uninstall 1.8.x.
