Hangman reacted to NathanC in Help outdated for PDF Bookmarks > Export PDF
I think this is just because the page URL doesn't dynamically update when switching between help articles after clicking on an initial link to the help, and this has always been the case. If you wanted to link to a specific help page its best to use the right click > copy link address function. It's the same if you went in directly from the affinity.help page, the URL just remains as the 'index.html' the entire time.
Does look like some clarification is required, i'll log this with the docs team as well.

Hangman got a reaction from Return in Single Page Publisher Documents Don't Automatically Take on Master Page Formatting
@Return, perfect, thank you, so we are seeing the same behaviour on Mac and Windows re Scenario 1 though in light of Scenario 2, I'm still trying to work out whether this is expected behaviour or a bug...
In all fairness, the help section does state the following...
    Applying master pages
Just like publication pages, master pages can be a single page or two-page spread equally, and can be assigned to equivalent publication pages or spreads.

However, if I've interpreted this correctly it may explain Scenario 1 but it would then appear to contradict Scenario 2. Hopefully, someone from the moderation team can provide some clarification...

    Hi @anto,
This is a known and logged bug, basically, the transform origin is incorrectly offset by the page height and the offset increases the more pages are added to the document...

Thank you @Hangman, @MickRose and @v_kyr for your prompt answers and useful information! I've created my sticker based on the template with a CutContour color and will check with the printing service if that will work with them. Great Forum here, happy I've invested in the Affinity Suite 🙂

Hi @AndreasS and welcome to the forums,
Of course, if the printing service has provided or you can download the PDF then you can simply open it in Affinity Designer and use it as the template for your sticker artwork. If not then the attached should give you a good starting point though you would need to adjust the sticker sizing as appropriate for your artwork.
You wouldn't include the cyan and magenta lines on your final artwork, they are shown purely as a guide for the artwork safe zone (cyan line), trim size (dashed magenta line) and bleed size (solid magenta line). There is no need to make the bleed rectangular as it just wastes ink, the oval bleed is absolutely fine and should provide sufficient margin for misalignment when printed N-Up on a sheet.

@MikeTO, many thanks for testing, I figured that would likely be the case...
I'm seeing several refresh issues in the current Beta but they only appear to affect the x-ref's panel for some reason, though it was interesting that you also found that refresh issue when updating text styles...
I'm struggling to think what other condition there could be at the moment...

Thank you for this simple guide. My typographical limitation showed here but, at least, I rejected the visual result of a faux small cap. Sadly, that's not always the case...

@Hangman I can't duplicate that with my documents or with a fresh test document. There has to be another condition but I'm unsure what it could be.

Hangman got a reaction from Patrick Connor in Edit Text Style > Cancel doesn't cancel if you don't change panes
This, in part, looks like a screen refresh issue in as much as in each scenario you've outlined, selecting one of the arrow keys or the space bar 'refreshes' the screen and then correctly shows the original Heading 1 style again. The text style itself isn't taking on the edits so cancelling the edits is working it's just not being reflected correctly on screen until a keyboard stroke is applied.
    But clearly still a bug...
In a way, it feels not unlike the issue raised here where the Limit subfields Cross-Reference option isn't enabled until the preset dropdown is reselected...
Or this issue where the Cross-Reference panel list doesn't refresh correctly when switching between Paragraph and Index Mark, again requiring the dropdown to be reselected before the list refreshes...

    Hi Hangman,

I can still reproduce this in 2.2.0.1999 and this is still an issue, so I will get it logged. Note I did edit your Step 10. It previously said repeat steps 1-7, however I've changed it to be steps 4-7, as demonstrated the last part of your recipe (otherwise I'll be continuously making new documents).

Hi @Rose Idiartt and welcome to the forums,
I'm not aware of any Print drivers that provide an option to convert Text to Curves (I could of course be wrong!).
I think your best option would still be to export to PDF, selecting 'Text as curves' and then use the Booklet printing option in Acrobat Reader which works correctly, unlike the current version in Publisher which is still awaiting a fix...

This is my interpretation of the 'issue' (rightly or wrongly)...
I originally queried this back in 2019 when the Affinity apps were updated from v1.6 to v1.7. At the time I was working on some very detailed and complex drawings which contained many layers with overlapping objects and I often had a need to position objects very precisely when zoomed into the drawing, so placing guides was the obvious approach to ensure accurate alignment.
In Designer v1.6 when dragging guides the selection handles for objects remained visible which meant if you wanted or needed to drag guides to the centre of a particular overlapping object it was very easy since you could do so visually as you could see the selection handles whilst dragging the guide. so you knew exactly where the centre of the object was...
    Dragging Guides in Designer v1.6

In v1.7 and above you are to a degree guessing where the centre of the overlapping object is because there are multiple snapping points...
Dragging Guides in Designer v1.7 and Above

While snapping helps, in general, it perhaps falls down when you have lots of overlapping objects in close proximity because there are lots of potential snapping points and you can't visually see which is the correct one, so in the example above when I want to drag guides to the centre of the yellow rectangle, in v1.6 although I would get lots of snapping points owing to the overlapping rectangles, it was easy to determine where the centre of the yellow rectangle was because the selection handle was still visible. In v1.7 and above you start to play a bit of a guessing game because of the number of snapping points created by the underlying rectangles...
Crude Example Showing Multiple Snapping Points When Dragging Guides

Drag Guides.mp4   In the event that I wanted to position the blue ellipse at the centre of the yellow rectangle, my approach might be to drag a vertical and horizontal guide and position both at the centre of the yellow box which was just that much easier in v1.6 and then drag the blue circle until it snapped to the guides.
In v1.7 and above positioning the guides in instances like this, i.e., with multiple overlapping objects in close proximity to each other has become just that little bit more difficult as it feels as though you are working blind when trying to position them accurately, something which was really easy in v1.6.
Note: The example shown above is massively simplified but hopefully demonstrates the point.
A second issue, which has already been discussed above is the lack of guide snapping when objects are grouped... to position the blue ellipse at the centre of the yellow rectangle, the obvious approach would be to drag a horizontal and vertical guide, position them at the centre of the yellow rectangle and then with snapping enabled, drag the blue ellipse until it snaps to the guides but this appears not to be possible when the yellow rectangle forms part of a group and even with snapping enabled it's not possible to snap the blue ellipse without the use of guides in the same way you can when the yellow rectangle doesn't form part of a group.

Guide Snapping.mp4   Back in a different post from 2019 the reason given for hiding the selection handles/box while dragging guides in v1.7 was to reduce clutter...
"Yes - in 1.6 we didn't hide the selection box when moving guides, and in 1.7 we now do. That has changed - along with a raft of other major changes in 1.7 to how most of the tools work.  All very carefully thought out, and intended to improve usability."
There are always going to be differing user cases and differing scenarios... For some users, having the option to show selection handles while dragging guides is beneficial for others it will likely never be an issue because they're not working on complex artwork where leaving the selection handles visible while dragging guides would be beneficial.
I guess the obvious option would be to provide a preference that allows the user to show or hide the selection handles while dragging guides but equally, I don't think this is going to happen as the removal of this option has been stated to be by design.

Hi @Kimberly Smith and welcome to the forums,
Affinity apps don't currently support variable fonts which is why you're seeing them listed in the font menu the way you are. You would need to uninstall the variable versions and then download and install non-variable versions for them to work correctly...
