All looks very sensible. I think I will simply drag & trash the apps themselves: two were purchased via the app store one directly from Affinity and they may have different/additional library files. The V2 apps asked me if i wanted to port some plugins and I said Yes so I assume they're safe but one never knows...

Change 'next paragraph style' default

It sure does! All working now, many thanks! (note to the UI team: not the most obvious feature...) -
Change 'next paragraph style' default
Moscool replied to Moscool's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Allo Dominik I'm being particularly hopeless here... I cannot find the 'Next Style' option anywhere! -
A common feature in word processors is to define which style follows the application of any given style e.g. 'Heading 1' followed by 'Heading 2' itself followed by 'Body'. I've had a good look around the UI and this forum but cannot find anything. So please add as a suggestion or show me how to do it! PS: at present I'm copying past the first couple of lines of a given section and then replacing the text. Not ideal but it works.

Samples in Opening Screen
Moscool replied to Michael Smith's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Yes, plus one for this. It's the cloud with a red x that confused me. This looks already like an accomplished product. *Almost* worth the extra 18 month wait -
Simple conversion from InDesign
Moscool replied to Roenbaeck's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
I've tried a simple document conversion from pdf it's fine for anything unstyled. You do lose paragraph styles though so my bullets were treated as simple text for example. Because my document had so many styled paragraphs I think I will set the styles up first in Publisher and then copy/paste. An alternative would be to search/remove all bullets. A bit undecided at this point but I think it's always better to use 100% styled paragraphs. -
Yes InDesign usually cannot open its own files... New file format for each .5 version With IDML it's hard to understand why they keep doing it...

Affinity Publisher
Moscool replied to Yogi9409's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Indeed. Wherefore actually means 'Why' in the play (as in why are you from the wrong family?) I think this applies to Publisher too: Why oh why are we being strung along AND there being no Mac solution (even a basic one) in the meantime... -
Thanks Paolo! So if you have a standard Bamboo tablet (mine is a few years old), then the pen is also standard and won't support barrel rotation as described above. Is there a way to create manual barrel rotation using keys though? - For instance to replicate the way you would hold a pen nib (and I'm left handed)?

Thanks MEB. This thread is probably a primer for those of us trying to incorporate Affinity in our regular workflow. At present I have AffP as a nominated editor in Lightroom, but the Apple Photo plugins open new possibilities... What would be really useful here is to understand file management in Apple Photos and how AffP plugins interface with that. Like many people I shoot a combination of jpeg (on iPhone) and RAW and I have yet to entrust RAW development and management to the Apple apps... Bear with me as I outline some workflow scenarios. Any wisdom on those (in terms of simplification) would be great! 1) Scenario 1 - RAW shooting I shoot either RAW files of RAW + jpg. In the first case I import all the originals into Lightroom do carry out my file selection/rating. In the second case I use Apple Preview to eyeball the jpegs and then only retain those files that pass the first test. I like the RAW 'engine' in Lightroom. I have seen the AffP video on RAW development and find it a bit confusing. I suppose I could import my RAW images into Apple Photos but then what happens? Obviously Apple converts these for screen display. If I edit in Photos, is it really work on the RAWs/non destructive? Where does the AffP RAW engine come in? 2) Scenario 2 - First cut in Lightroom, but space for AffP work later So let's assume I don't want to create very detailed edits but I use Lightroom to lift shadows, crop ,etc. Can I then import the RAW/Sidecar file into Apple Photos. How would the AffP plug ins 'read' the Apple photo file? Again, what is non destructive? 3) Scenario 3 - Deep work in Lightroom using AffP as editor We're now in the 'large file' space, perhaps working in TIFF. So I use AffP for in depth work. I then export that file into Photos: - How does Apple handle the file? - Does it create a 'view' jpg? - What happens when I invoke the AffP plugins? Does AffP 'remember' that the file has been edited in the app? Does it work from the original or from the new view jpg? Hey, life used to be simpler but had fewer possibilities! Thanks

As far as I can tell, one cannot directly add noise when creating a global colour. There's a workaround, but it's a bit cumbersome: - Create an object and create/apply a noisy colour - In the swatches panel create a global colour, this will take you to a new colour creation wheel; create any colour you want - Select your noisy colour from 'recent' and drag it to your 'painter palette with a dot' icon - Delete the first global colour (if you don't have a use for it So the feature request is simply to have a noise slider in the global colour panel Thanks!

Module bibliothèque ?
Moscool replied to Clu's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I'm working with a couple of stationery templates which need updating. One version is saved as a pdf with embedded fonts, the other has outlined fonts and is saved as eps. Both files have a couple of vector logos too. When I open the pdf, it is fine but one of the fonts is missing and it asks for a replacement. No surprise here. When I open the eps, it comes with a blank sheet (of the correct size) but zero objects: just one layer with nothing on it. Is there a known problem or do I need to do something different than just open the eps file?

Your solution is correct MEB (fill layer) but the video creates a simple pixel layer which then becomes non editable once it has been committed. The fill layer's gradient remains editable even after closing/saving and no history (as long as you select the gradient tool).

Crop Tool
Moscool replied to Smokey's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Didn't even know there was a Beta doing the rounds... -
OK, thanks MEB, so just that I get my head around this... - I selected my sky but excluded the big tower block in the middle - I created a new layer based on the selection (command J) - I then applied the gradient as per the video examples So instead I should select and then choose 'New Fill Layer' which will automatically be from selection... But if I save without saving the history, I lose the ability to modify the gradients (just did this with a small test file) Correct?

Crop Tool
Moscool replied to Smokey's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Nope, it's the default value. Writing this on my MBP 13 inch Retina. Closed AP, reopened with a fresh document (print settings). I attach a screenshot of the crop tool: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qvxk7bjcoa29qdg/Screen%20Shot%202016-11-16%20at%2012.40.44.png?dl=0 -
Thanks for the excellent Vimeo tutorial on this! Now a follow-on question: I wanted to modify the gradient on the layer once it had been committed and I can't retrieve it. It's as if the pixels have been committed 'for ever'. Of course I can always delete the layer and create a new one but I had done this based on a complex selection which had not been saved... So two questions in effect: 1) Is there a way to retrieve your local modifications like in Lightroom? 2) Do I need to set history to save upon closing and what is the impact on file size? Thanks!

Crop Tool
Moscool replied to Smokey's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
The 'little arrow' varies with your window size: if it's large enough for all the options to display then it won't appear. What is more worrying (for me) is that the 'darken border' check box is nowhere to be seen, independently of my window size... -
Good, complementary tutorials. Would be great to have descriptions of the palettes too. Is ChecKit linked to Serif?
-
I'll let Serif reply formally but you may want to know that books do not attract VAT so you can put the expense through your accounts by simply printing the order confirmation from Affinity shop. Awesome book by the way...
