  1. So why are other members even mentioning the fact of possibly having to rasterise As I have said in my opening post, this should be the simplest tool to use, yet it does not work well for me at all, to enable me to simply cut out what I don't want in an image
  2. Hi All who have tried to resolve my issue, Firstly I am following the AP Tutorials, on all that try to teach the use of the In Brush. Secondly in my Layers panel, there is only a ( Background ) Pixel layer, just the same a sin AP tutorials, And it appears to me this brush only works well when there is a less complicated background, I have tried it on other images, using exactly the method as shown, but with almost a single colour background, and it seems to work far better that a mixed up, multi coloured background. Never a mention in AP's tutorials of having to rasterise anything at all, so confusing
  3. All my settings are the same as in AP's tutorial, the image in the Layers panel is ( Background ) Pixel. there is never a mention in tutorials of having to rasterise before applying the brush tool, just make it more difficult to believe what their tutors are saying, the problem to me is the tutors, they know to much, but dont know how to get it simply across to others who have very little idea. I think the problem may be to do with the backgrounds, on AP's tutorials, the backgrounds tend to be uncluttered, or a simple one ore two other tones, but when the background becomes more mixed and varied, the the inpatient brush tool is useless
  4. I am trying to get what must be one of the easiest tools to use in AP. The In painting brush fails to work at all for me, yes it red masks over the element I want to remove, but when I unclick, it either does absolutely nothing to the image, or it duplicates what is masked, I have repeated the task several times as shown in tutorials, but still the same result, I must be completely missing an element, can't see why this is such a problem
  5. Hi DWright, Yes I have tried to open from a separate drive, and from the desktop, no different really, and my OS for the Mac comp. is 10.13.6 with 16Gb Ram. Strange thing is in one of the tutorials, a TIFF is dropped into the document, which is why I thought I would do the same
  6. HI Guys, Just trying to get back into AP after a long absence. A lot of my images are in TIFF format, I see from AP that I am able to export as TIFF images, but not able to import TIFF files to work on, Why is that ?
  7. In A/P tutorials: Intro Getting Started, the tutor crops the Background Image layer, surely this is destructive, as no other signs of the cropping are shown anywhere, or has he " saved as " before cropping, to make it an A/P stored image. A similar method is also adopted when importing Raw images, cropping is done as the first stage, no mention of a 'save as " here either, also other actions, like "levels", " curves " etc, then the tutor applies the changes, and is taken into the "Persona " area for further development of the image. Would just like some clarification as to exactly how to proceed with cropping, and other actions of an image without destructive editing, which the tutorials seem to imply.
  8. Just found my problem, I have to have the Export Persona selected before I use view> Studio? Export Options, and not just select View in the header choice, by itself, Thanks Carl123
  9. HI Carl123, Had a look at your suggestion, and there is no reference to anything like Export Options in VIew> Studio> Export Options, or am I missing something
  10. Can some smarter than me member tell me how I get the Export options visible to use, after selecting the Export Persona, at present all I am able to select are the layers panel, and the Slices, where is / has the Export Options panel disappeared to.
  11. Used PS LR and now AP this appears to be the best, one can always learn even been doing it for many years, wonder how much of this one I will regularly use, a lot more than the others, simply because of yours and other tutorials, its far to much hard work to read manuals. Found your first three tutorials extremely simple to follow, and now waiting for the next ones
  12. Hi, and thanks MEB for this and other advice, it is appreciated
  13. Thanks MEB, I finally got to find out where the in painting tool was, I had totally forgotten about the small triangles in the icon boxes, the same as PS I believe, but stopped using this when I moved to Lightroom. Regarding the re sizing of the icons in the tool dock, on all the demos I have seen the dock extends almost the full size of the App window when AP is opened, on my screen the dock barely extends to half the hight of the App, making them quite small to identify, I think there must be somewhere to enlarge them to better fir the screen height, Grahame
  14. Hi, Sorry I do not fully understand what you are saying here, for me to check it out, I've had a look in Preview Prefs, saw nothing like your screenshot, and also in AP prefs, again saw nothing. The whole app appears to work in a totally alien way to a normal programme for me, just now launching the AP App does not even allow me to choose the Open choice to import images, then some other time it will, I am getting rather confused, perhaps I need a break and a rethink, sorry
  15. The images that open themselves have not been processed through Affinity, and do not have the .aphoto extn I just wanted to view them on my desktop to compare before being sent for printing, but they all opened in AP. I have just tried it again, after you comments, with other images I have, and again AP opened them up, no harm done, but I don't think this should be happening
  16. Hi, yes you are right, it was first uploaded from my launchpad, but somehow now it is in my apps folder ? It appears to have a mind of its own, if I want to just look at some images on my desktop, then AP opens automatically and opens the image I selected, ( even though it is closed ) surely this should not be the case. The other day it would not stay in the dock at all, I did what you advised above, but it insisted in closing down altogether, and disappeared from view, presumably it closed down into Launchpad, will remember to look there in future, but it is definitely in my Apps folder, should I remove it from there, to trash, but I will make sure it is still in Launchpad. Thanks for your responses, it is appreciated.
  17. This tool does not exist in my Affinity, unless it is under another name ? I have tied other tools but not the right ones, I do not get the red over marking, highlighting what has to be removed. The brush appears in the tutorials I have watched, in prep for getting AP Another strange thing, is that the tool dock is very small up the left hand side when the prog is opened, can it be enlarged as in the Mac dock ?
  18. After I purchased, followed the advice, and put it into my App file, then I opened it, and right clicked to give me options, I chose keep in dock, but it fails to stay there, I have to go back into my Apps file and load it again.
  19. Hi there, I have been trying many attempts to use your tutorial to enable me to do what appears to be the simplest of tasks. I am trying to erase items from the image using a tool shown in the demo, but is not actually the same in the purchased, this I find a bit confusing, as there appears not to be any other like it. When I try to paint over the area I wish to remove, nothing happens at all, there is no red over mask, therefore nothing happens, can you please advise what I am not seeing
  20. The app refuses to stay in the dock, despite it being ticked in the options, it also keeps butting in to open images when not asked to do so, and thirdly, totally disappeared from the dock , and the apps folder, had to find it again using spotlight. Can any one advise what is going on
