    Hello everyone!

This is my first post here. I wanted to share the logo to represent my professional identity/brand, that I designed using Affinity Designer.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Hi!

I'd like to share the last painting I made.
I sketched the scene and the "cat" directly on AffinityPhoto using my pencils (that can be downloaded here)

This is the value painting step, I used some Gouaches from the available set and new ones I created for this specific work.     And at the end colours! I was looking for a movie-like toning. For this step I used only Recolour and Curve Adjustment layers clipped by painting layers (Foreground/Lion/Fog/Background/Sky) and applyed a bit of sharpening to enhance strokes.

I was trying to record the process of creation in AF and AD for this new character to share on social media.

I manually scrubbed through the history whilst recording a section of the screen with Quicktime. Then created the gif with GifBrewery.

Got me thinking - making recordings form history and sharing could be a very cool bonus feature.  :)

    Hey there!

Here's a quick tutorial/demo on how to mix vector shapes and bitmap textures in Affinity Designer. Here I'm showing a simple but pretty useful technique I'm applying to almost all my vector artwork nowadays.

    FREE SAMPLE PACK!
I'm also giving away a small sample of my recent brush pack for Affinity Designer called Texturizer Pro. With this sample pack you can have enough to play around and get an idea of what the full set is about.

Click on the image below to download this FREE sample pack and watch the video tutorial!

Hope you guys enjoy and find this useful!

In fact, after a simple copy/paste, the way to resize object in AP works like smart object function in Photoshop BUT you don't have to pay attention to the update of the file. Some people could think it's a silly way to work but I've never made a mistake by having forget a update of an object ... I use my head instead of let the machine do. (^_^!)

And another detail : packshots are on another hard drive. They are archived on a bluray for my jewels library (+2500 objects), and catalogs of a year are archived on a "customer's bluray" ...

DEF13 reacted to Macmonkey in …and some more work and thoughts
    Hi everyone,
This is another project that i have been working on this week. A slightly different but equally simple style ;) I am creating a whole bunch of people to populate a village scene.

    Thoughts this week:

This is already turning out to be my go to app for character illustration. I was using illustrator this week for an old project and I found myself thinking I wish i could do a simple alpha grad :) and i was also missing the functionality of the select tool in affinity and being able to click to add points without juggling with keyboard shortcuts.

Because I like the illustrating workflow in Affinity i decided to try doing some packaging artwork, but I quickly discovered that I have quite a few Postscript Type 1 fonts :( do you have any idea when/ if these will be supported? It's a shame because i really like the way the text tool works to drag out a size when you first click. Also because I do a few iterations of the designs I found myself really missing illustrators art boards. So I think I will be sticking with illustrator for packaging design …for now.

Pen tool - when i am drawing out straight edged shapes it would be handy if when i click and drag on a line it could drag the edge instead of bending it. The bending is really cool for curves but when working with straight edged shapes it gets in the way. I guess the behaviour should be determined by the node type i.e if smooth then bend , but if sharp then move the entire edge.

I'm really looking forward to a wacom friendly zoom method, the mouse wheel works just great when using the mouse, but I was working in Affinity for about 6 hours straight yesterday and the RSI was starting to kick in a little ;)

Anyways… as always great work guys looking forward to the next update (fingers crossed for any of the following zoom shortcut, rounded corners, eraser tool, art boards)

    Have a good one
    Dave

Hello I am a huge fan of both affinity designer and photos, and own both of them! I just wanted to share some of the work that I have done using the new symbols tool in the Affinity Designer beta. When I got into sacred geometry mandala illustrations, I used smart layers inside photoshop. In the last month, I've recreated some of my past works and created new designs using the new betas.

I'd love to thank all their development teams for creating such incredible and intuitive vector applications. You allow me to effortlessly create designs in Designer and quickly export them to Photos to add nice image/gradient masks and effects before submitting the final render.

Here's some of the works I've created. I have them all on my Instagram as well (@garetmckinley).

    Good news for us !

Perhaps I'm not the fist one but I found the way to use all the plugins of the Nik Collection in Affinity Photo.
After installing the Nik Collection by following tutorials, we all have the same problems : Viveza 2, Sharpener Pro 3, Dfine 2 et Selective Tool doesn't work. The problem come from the Windows format of the config file of each plugins. In fact, this file is a text file format with the .config extension.

Analog Efex Pro 2 - natively works
Color Efex Pro 4 - natively works
Dfine 2 - you have to replace the Dfine2.config
HDR Efex Pro 2 - natively works
Sharpener Pro 3 - you have to replace the SHP3.config
Silver Efex Pro 2 - natively works
Viveza 2  - you have to replace the Viveza2.config (after a quick test, this one doesn't work very well, because of a color problem - I'm not enought competent to solve it)

Selective Tool - can't works in AP because it's a sort of scripts panel to call Nik plugins with different ways - We could create similar actions with AP Macros.

How and where replacing the .config files ?
Go to the folder you create before installing the Nik collection / Google /
In Dfine 2 folder > replace Dfine2.config (you have to login)
In Sharpener Pro 3 folder > replace SHP3.config (you have to login)
In Viveza 2 folder > replace Viveza2.config (you have to login)

If you didn't erase the way to access to these plugins in AP's preferences, they works now.

    Enjoy it !

    Hi,

As I explain it in my previous post (MacOS + AP + Nik Collection FULL FONCTIONALS ...), Selective Tool plugin can't work in Affinity Photo because it open a scripts panel in Photoshop ; but most of then can be reproduce with simple macros in Affinity Photo ... So I did it !

1- At first, you have to install Nik Collection plugins for Affinity Photo, some YouTube videos explain clearly how to do it.
2- You have to correct *.config files has I explain here.
3- Install "NIK Collection Selective Tool.afmacros"

    How it work ?
Generaly, the "real" Selectiv Tool copye and merges all the layers, then it creates a full mask (black) befor calling the plugin you select with it. When you've finished to work in the plugin's panel, you go back in the editing software and you just have to erase parts of the mask with a white brush to reveale the effect ...
NIK Collection Selective Tool.afmacros works exactly the same way.

Note : you don't have to use Selective Tool to work with Nik Collection plugins ; this tool is just a "plus".

    Enjoy it !
