Dazmondo77 - Many thanks for this - it worked for me by force-quitting appstoreagent. It took a couple of attempts, and I still have the notification (even after a re-start), but both apps are showing 1.9.1 We shall see!
-
I had the notification from the App Store. I went to 'updates' and clicked on 'All' (I have Designer too), but after some time it simply failed. I still have a '2' on the App Store notifications in the Dock, but nothing under 'Update' at the App Store itself. Anyone else getting this please? I'm on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 There was no problem updating Publisher through the app itself (not the App Store).

Hi Callum, Thanks for this, but after 'developing' a RAW image (and saving as .afphoto) the adjustments are lost. Adjusting a non-RAW image or an afphoto image (and saving the adjustments), saving, and copying to another image would work, but I'm not getting this when the adjustments I want were done to a RAW image. Unless I'm completely mis-understanding you. Is there an option to save the changes made to a RAW image?
-
Is it possible, in Affinity Photo, to copy all the adjustments made to a RAW file and then paste these (into a different RAW file) in order to 'develop' that other similar file in the same way? In both Lightroom and Capture One Pro this is possible. I've looked at 'Batch' but this seems not to be appropriate for copying adjustments.

Spell check not working.
WildCottage replied to Terkoz's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Having the same problem here. No problem in a new document though! I have a master document for a newsletter; go in and add text, pictures etc. Save as a new document specific to that content. Then spellchecker is not working. Creat a totally new document, import the same text and spellchecker now does work! -
'Transform' dialogue
WildCottage replied to WildCottage's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Many thanks MEB, I'd not spotted the previous comments ... -
The 'Transform' dialogue shows the position, on a page, of various elements. Standard stuff, no problem - except that the 'Y' dimension, in my multi-page document only gives a 'Y' value based upon the origin of the document, NOT the individual page I'm looking at; I get a huge minus figure! (see screen capture; TransformDialogue) I can see how this is calculated (number of pages x depth of each proceeding page, + local distance on page), but when trying to place an item on, say, page 7, I'm left with a complex mental arithmatic excercise to place it at a particular spot. I've tried moving the page origin to no avail. (see screen capture; RulersOrigin) Is there a way to make the 'Transform' dialogue reflect the actual numbers of the particular page I'm working on please?

Overflowing Text Box
WildCottage replied to WildCottage's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Hi Walt I'm now convinced that either the previous version of the software was at fault, or, more likely, I was doing something wrong. I've re-set all the text - it now fits properly - 18pt instead of 30pt - and I even remembered how to make the background of the text box transparent. Solved! But still cannot figure out why! Best wishes ... -
Overflowing Text Box
WildCottage replied to WildCottage's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Hi Walt, thanks for your reply. I checked 'special characters' and there's nothing added; and it all fitted properly under the previous version of the software - see Untitled3. I selected all the text and checked the leading in the ToolBar. It said 'default' and 30pt. I changed this to 'exactly' 30pt and then scanned down the list expecting the value to change. It did change, but not in the text itself ... See '4' and '5' I've just deleted that text box and re-drawn it - it now behaves properly and the point size is now 18, not 30! Maybe there was something wrong before and the update has corrected this? It was really odd last time because I'd set this document up in Apple's Pages, and the 30pt suggested in Affinity seemed wrong - it had been 18pt in Pages. Just need to figure out how to make the text box transparent instead of white now! -
I've just updated to the latest Beta (140) and then opened a document that I made in a previous version (probably 139 or earlier on 14th September) Untitled2 is a grab of the previous file (output as a PDF) and Untitled shows the result in the updated software. I am unable to control the leading - which seems to be the reason for the overspill of text. Any answers please?

Transform images within their frames?
WildCottage replied to mac_heibu's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
I had the same issues when trying to re-size a .tiff file with a transparent background. The picture was overlaid across anther picture. mac_heibu says it all - it works if you make a picture frame using the picture frame tool and then manipulate accordingly. After that you don't seem to be able to get back to it. Definitely needs more work on this tool ... -
I'm new to Affinity Photo, but used to other image editing apps. Is the 'normal' way of working in AP, for photocompositions, to use the 'Place' feature? In other words; you have one picture already open and in order to add another layer (another picture from a different file) you use the 'Place' command? Or can you simply drag another file from the desktop, say?

Thanks R C-R and A_B_C for your replies. It occured to me after writing the question that you can only purchase through the MAS, rather than the older method of from the maker's own website. OK so with the appropriate Apple ID this should be possible for me. Again - many thanks for the clear explanation!

Hello I'd like to buy Affinity Photo. At the moment my computer system (OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard) will not support Affinity Photo. My wife, however has an iMac that does, but this will not, eventually, be the main computer I will want to use for Affinity Photo. I will be getting a new computer when Apple announce what I want, hopefully later this year. In the meantime can I buy and download Affinity Photo onto my old computer (presumably as a DMG file) and put a copy on my wife's iMac now, and a copy on my new computer when I get it? Can I or my wife still use the copy on her computer once of got my new computer and use it on that? Thank you!

D500
WildCottage replied to WildCottage's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Many thanks Leigh - Presumably it (D500 NEF files) will be supported in the near future? Perhaps with the 1.5 version? -
Thanks Bill & Paul for your replies. Interesting solution Bill; I'm using a 2009 Mac Pro - and yes I discovered that SL does not support USB3. But not an ideal solution for me. Actually the lack of modern connections is another reason for getting a new Mac. Paul; good to hear that AP is so streamlined. I probably can't afford to go the Mac Pro route but wanted to discount it if there was no technical advantage (AP using several cores, multi-threading etc.) Best wishes, WildCottage

I've been following the development of Affinity Photo for some time now. I use a Mac, of course, but am reluctant to upgrade beyond Snow Leopard because of several apps I use that are no longer supported or would need to be expesively upgraded too. Affinity Photo does not run under SL so; it's time to buy a new Mac; but which one? Sorry, I am getting to the point! Does Affinity Photo, for instance, use the full power of a Mac Pro? - multi-threading cores etc. Or would an iMac 5k Retina be a better (certainly cheaper) choice? I've used an Eizo monitor for the past seven years and would prefer another Eizo (4k) than an Apple screen. Perhaps they'll upgrade the Mac mini with a Skylake processor. I'm desperately trying to avoid going the route of Lightroom and was happy to see that Serif is pursuing a DAM solution. The panorama feature released recently looks terrific and even the live stacks feature almost gives the ability for HDR. Lens corrections? In a similar fashion to LR? Any advise greatfully accepted.
