  1. Not sure if Apple are to blame re plug-in support or not. They may be in respect of Photos but that is currently rubbish as a DAM and out of the equation for me. Hopefully it will improve. I spoke to MacPhun about plug-in support for Affinity Photos (they already work with Apple, and Adobe) but they could not have been less interested. Would not be surprised to find that On1 feel the same, although their Photo Browser seems to offer a degree of DAM capability to Affinity Photo.
  2. Affinity probably does all that most of these plug-ins do anyway - the plugins just make it easier. I would not want Infinity to waste time by entering an already well saturated market. They have "bigger fish to fry" if they really want to compete with Adobe - such as a DAM and decent plug-in support. Why waste time learning software that will end up being broken by a simple thing like an OSX update.
  3. Quite so. The plug-in will now whither on the vine with no ongoing development. IMO it is to be avoided at all costs - there are alternatives.
  4. I just wish the plugin architecture within Affinity Photo was better implemented (unless it has improved since I last tried it). There are plenty of plug-ins out there that do the same thing as Nik, it is just that they do not work with Affinity Photo yet, which is why I am sticking with PS/LR at the moment.
  5. Has anybody tried using the On1 photo browser? It is said to be lightning fast.
  6. Yeah, I know I got confused with something else at the time, sorry . You can turn it off in LR and also in PS CC
  7. I don't use a compact but I use ACR via Lightroom. I have the option in the develop module to switch lens profile correction off and to handle same manually.
  8. Yes, you are correct. I thought it could be turned off, at least in LR, but the is not the case. That said, I cannot think of a case where I would want to turn it off.
  9. This plugin thing is a bit of a nightmare. I emailed MacPhun the other day and they "currently have no plans". I bet there are many others also like that. They will stick with Adobe due to market share and won't broaden their reach unless it is very apparent that the payback will be worthwhile. AP has a loyal and growing following I suspect but how big is it as a share of the market I wonder?
  10. I really am cynical about this MEB :) - I have never ever had a response like that and had anything happen. Maybe I shall be proven wrong in the years ahead but I certainly would not base future decisions on such a response. I guess there are many things that drive a software co to take action in something like this but one of the main ones must be the host software and the size of its user base. Not sure where AP fits in that but one thing for sure this DAM and Plugin stuff needs sorting pretty quickly if you are going to drag punters from PS.
  11. In software house parlance that means don't hold your breath. That is a simple stock answer. I know, I'm a cynic :-)
  12. The entire AP relationship with plugins and LR needs attention really. I can't see me dropping PS until that is sorted - as you say there is too much hassle involve. Its ok making the software feature rich but the basic functionality is important also.
  13. I have a lot of money and time invested in my plugins. As I cannot use these with AP I have to keep jumping back into PS. Given that and PS' better integration with LR I fear I might also be leaving AP on the shelf until it is ready for my sort of prime time. I do need plugin support and I do need full integration with a DAM. It is a shame for AP is a great bit go kit. I will keep trying but.........
  14. I have been using the Macphun plugins for a little while now an they can be quite useful. I therefore asked them if they were planning any plugins for AP. The answer basically is no, or at least not at this time which is much they same. Appears to be a wasted opportunity to me but equally it does not really help AP either. This is how Adobe sort of wins the day, they all rush to support LR/PS but that is it really (well apart from that waste of screen real estate Apple Photos). --Colin
  15. Affinity rules ok and will continue to do so. I have Adobe CC and have not used PS in weeks. The judgement call now is whether to kill my membership but I do need LR, until Affinity brings out an equivalent (ish) :-)
  16. Trying to find some information on how to add sun rays to a photo - such as in a forest scene. Any ideas? Thanks Colin
  17. It is never easy to switch. Some try but are really looking for reasons not to. It perhaps helps justify costs/subscriptions etc.
  18. Yes, is there a list of compatible plugins and has anybody got the Macphun stuff working yet? Thanks Colin
  19. Rest well, David, and thank you for some great music and "stage art".
  20. AP has extension that work with Apple Photos. They should be there now if you have installed AP. Not sure that the question of further integration is completely within the hands of the team at Affinity, I rather suspect Apple would have to do some work and I see that as unlikely at this juncture. That said, you can access the Apple Photos library via the media browser in AP.
