  1. I was not able to toggle the "show grid" menu item by using the keyboard shortcut on a german system, the language for AD is german too. The shortcut in the german system is Command+' – it does nothing. So I tried to change the shortcut in the app-preferences. To get the ' you have to press shift+# on a german keyboard You can see the result in the attached screen shot as I pressed Command+shift+#, the shift+# should result in ' but it results in Command+shift+# Because it happens in the preferences and during use of the app I think the implementation has an underlying bug how it treats the shift-key. I seems possible that this could cause other problems too.
  2. I was referring to your second workaround where you use distinct colors/gray levels that are represented by the halftone-raster, because of the multiple layers (each with their own live-filter) I assumed that it would not be possible to blend them smoothly into each other. This workaround would still be good for the majority of my doodles, as I like a more stylized loo with just a small number of gray levels. Your first walkaround looked as if would work to blend between the gray levels. My own workaround is visible in my screenshots - there are hidden layers with pure white, black and 50% gray where I was trying to migate the "border-problem", if I set the background to white I have no transparency and then no black border. It is certainly possible to achieve the desired outcome in AP but often the nested layers and complicated setup is hindering my workflow. I don't know if you are familiar with Clip Studio Paint: It removes (as a more specialized app, I presume) all friction: you can switch every layer (regardless if vector or pixel) to halftone, so you need just 1 layer and no masks, live-filter at all - so easy, that it doesn't hinder creativity. (I just want to get rid of it because of the subscription model that is coming) I think you're right – I fear its the the worst outcome: No bug in the technical but the artistical sense and not a feature that would be a priority... 😞 I will file a feature request.
  3. Thank you NotMyFault! Your suggestions seem to be good workarounds for special cases with no gradients in the raster – I have checked my doodles and it seems that in +90% I use just a single color for shadows so it really helps. Regarding the default behavior of AP: "transparent = black" I'm not happy. 100% transparency or the border of the page should not be influencing the color of something. I understand where AP is coming from (I imagine that hardware acceleration is quite effective if you are just iterating in blocks over the canvas without detecting edges to transparent areas, if its too computational intense you wouldn't have a live filter) but regardless would like Affinity to change the behavior.
  4. If I have a (unfilled, transparent) pixel layer with some lines drawn in different grays above I have a live filter with halftone set to point + This results (as wanted) in different dense point halftone rasters where the lines are on the layer below - But the border of the lines are darker, it seems that AP treats the transparent areas as black and so the borders are darker (this is not seen on lines with a smooth border, on the righ topt on the picture are some) - You can see this effect also when you fill a layer below the live filter completly white -> you would assume that you will geht no halftone points but on the margins of the page you get a darker border, as if AP uses black as an outside border that bleeds into the halftone layer = The correct behavior (or the one that I would like) is that no transparent or outside areas affects my lines (I try to replace Clip Studio Paint where I use halftone layers in my comics) I hope my point is understandable, if not please ask. It would be nice to hear from somebody at affinity if the behavior is intended. I attached two screen, the first with halftone live filter layer disabled, the second enabled. Greetings Nils
  5. Affinity (Serif) itself has a video that shows the use of the shape builder tool and by something that looks very similar to your design. Have look at the 3:00 minute mark:
  6. An alternative that I thought of was to export the teacher version and crop it with a combination of preview and automator to a A5-pdf or use lemke's graphicconverter to do so. But the suggested way seems like the proper way to do it.
  7. Hi Old Bruce, thank you for the suggestion -- I think I will take this route. It's fast enough to change both documents as double clicking brings me directly to the original pupil document and after changing something there it is reflected in the teachers document... Thanks a lot Nils
  8. Stated differently: I want put some content outside of the print area and have an easy way to print a greater area so that this content appears again, even if the outside area is not centered around the print area. Or the same just reverse: Have a big print area with everything (A4) and change this easily during exporting to a smaller size (A5) to omit the margin-areas... But the content I would like then to put out is not centered on the page...
  9. on top you see the document setup in A5 with large bleed area from there I export 2 different pdf versions one in A4 with annotations (for the staff) and another in A5 without annotations (for the pupils) by switching on or off the setting "include bleed". This works but I feel I'm misusing a feature for something not intended.
  10. Thank you for the suggestion . The main problem is the different size of the output. Everything outside of the A5-size is not exported/printed - this is were the bleed area comes in - I can switch a flip in the export settings and the bleed area appears and then it automagically has the A4-format as I set the bleed area exactly to the difference of A5 and A4.
  11. Hi all, I'm creating an info brochure for the pupils in Din A5 but want to put out an extended version for the teachers in Din A4. This annotated version should include the original version for the pupils and on the sides annotations for the teachers (such as more infos or which sources were used to compile the information). Right now I'm doing the following: -create the brochure in Din A5 -set the bleed to 62 mm on one side (width-difference between A5 and A4) and 87 mm in total on top and bottom -put all annotations for the teachers in the bleed area (it will be printed out on the school foto copiers so there is no use for the bleed area) -export once with bleed area shown for the teachers and once without for the pupils This seems to work in my tests but feels like an ugly hack -- is there a better way? I tried creating the pupils version first, embedding it as pdf in the teachers document but if I changing something I would have to export and embed the pdf again... Ideally I would like to have both versions in one document and work on both at the same time... Hopefully some of yours have a suggestion. Greetings Nils
  12. Yes, it does not update, even if i close the wrap option dialog - if I click inside the document it is corrected
  13. I have a text-frame full of nonsense text, everything is correctly underlined (marked as wrongly spelled). If I put an image on top that shoves the text to an other place the text moves but the wrong-spelling-markings stay where they where before... Have a look at the picture
