[using affinity with photos app]

I opened up a picture in Photos app and went to the extensions. There are 6 Affinity extensions, and I opened up DEVELOP, but there was no menu along the left side. All there was was a side menu or sliders along the right side that would help increase contrast etc. What happened to the other menu? What am I doing wrong?

I see that Affinity is good for RAW files, but if I shoot only in Jpeg, will it allow me to open those files and make changes and alterations. Or do I need to shoot everything in RAW?
