  1. +2 for this feature maybe add the ability to specify resolution as well? MK
  2. Would like to humble suggest a couple of new features for Guides and Rulers, which would really go along way in improving productivity: Rulers, have the ability to change the value of the ruler to (with a right click would be great): Percentage Point Picas Inches Centimeter While you can place guides at percentage points, takes a number of clicks to get there, whereas if we could change the ruler to whatever, would make lining up guides on a custom size documents a lot easier and less mouse clicks Guides, have the ability to change the guide color, when working on a document with a lot of blues makes it a challenge to see the guides - my eyes need as much help as they can get B) Cheers mike
  3. Thanks learn something new each day.... While this works still would be nice to be able to click the ruler and change the scale to percentage and other measurements like Points, Picas and the likes. By the way, have scoured the help file but no luck yet - is there any way to change the color of the guide? Struggling with a Real Estate Flyer that has a lot of blue and difficult to see. Thanks again for all your help Mike
  4. Would be really nice to be able to have options for the Ruler scales in both AP and AD. Percentage would be great for working on odd size documents. Set the Ruler Scale percentage, set a guide at 50% both vertically and horizontally and you have the center of the document. I know I can use align to center an object, but being able to set guides as a percentage would really help with laying out designs. Cheers Mike
  5. I have begun my transition away from Photoshop in earnest and beginning to get the feel of Affinity Photo and the subtle differences between the two products. Not there just yet, but I am getting there. Here is a portrait from an Nikon D3 RAW file done completely in AP. Used a number of tools, including: Burn for eyelashes and pupils Inpainting brush for blemish removal and red veins in the whites of the eyes and some stray hairs Clone set to darken color to tidy up the lips and remove some harsh highlights Non-destructive dodge (50% gray layer with white brush) to tone down lines around the eyes Non-Destructive burn to give more detail in the eyebrows Color desaturation layer & curves for whitening the teeth Took me about about an hour to get this far; in Photoshop would have been 15 minutes tops - but getting more efficient as I move up the learning curve :D So all-in-all very please with my progress and the ability of AP to deliver quality images
  6. Count me in for this feature, while you can achieve this with masks and curves it is not the most efficient method. Mike
  7. That is cool that you can set Blackpoint compensation, I did not know it was there. But that applies as a global default for all images to be printed. Would it be more efficient to move this control to the print dialog box and cut down on the navigation? Keep all your printing needs in one place. mk
  8. Thanks for confirming - so hopefully a new feature :) I did try the Live Lighting filter but difficult to get the lighting exact - soon unfortunately fell back to Photoshop just to get this one out of the door. The NIK Color Effects Lighten/Darken is a breeze and you can select the center point with a single click. Another way to do this in Photoshop is to create new layer, add an elliptical feathered mask (around 200) invert and apply a Curves Adjustment and drag up the exposure. Not enough experience with Affinity Photo to see if this approach would work Mike Update - quickly tried the elliptical mask method in AP, could do with some tweaking but not too bad for a first attempt in AP - another step in the right direction from Photoshop :)
  9. Working in a high key portrait and the sitter is not in the center of the frame. I applied a high key (high exposure) vignette to blow out the background and her white top. Looks great but need to move the center point of the vignette to the left. Have looked at all the Vignette options and Help files but cannot see how to move the center point. Am I missing something or should this be a feature request? MK
  10. Understood, not sure if this is a limitation of Affinity Photo or the MAC/OS. Apple has made a number of changes in the printer workflow that has riled a number of professional printers - you could check out the Epson Printer forum. Maybe someone from Affinity can give us the real scoop on whether this is an issue with Photo or a limitation with the OS? By the way I do print critical client work via a PC either using Photoshop or Qimage. Qimage unfortunately is a Windows only product, and is a great productivity tool for getting multiple print jobs out the door. Mike
  11. The control is there, but not obvious to find from the opening print menu Open the print dialog box and make sure you have selected the right printer.... Now look for the drop down that says Scaling & Artboards and click You should then see "Color Matching" Click and you should see the option for Color Sync or Printer. Select Color Sync than with the drop down select the Color Profile for the paper you want to print on.....And you should be good to go. I am relatively new to Macs - since mid December and compared to Windows the Mac print features are overly complicated and take way too many steps. But there you go. Hope this helps Mike PS - looks like you can save this as a preset - might help for the future and cut down on the navigation :D
  12. Excellent news and something to look forward too :D MK
  13. I agree with where you are coming from and while it would be a real time saver to be able to import directly into AD at least I can get use some of my art work in AD. I have to run a mixed environment in my studio, I need Windows because some of our software products are Windows only, in fact I have to keep a Windows XP machine alive while i find the time and nerve to migrate to a new product and platform. Corel did come out with a MAC version of Corel Draw, was a long time ago around versions 4,5 or 6 then discontinued. So maybe one day........ Cheers Mike
  14. i have been using Corel Draw since version 2 and stopped upgrading at X3. Still have all the install and Clip Art CD's. With the work I created in X3 I have found exporting as SVG the best solution and more accurate (color wise) than exporting as a PDF. Also exporting as PSD file is pretty good as well, while not a vector format I have duplicated a number of assets and scaled them in Corel then selecting each asset and exporting as a PSD and you get a transparent background :) But having the ability to import native CDR files into AD would be great. Corel does export in the CMX which is a vector format used for graphic interchange - maybe the Affinity folks could look into that as a way of getting Corel vector artwork into AD? MK
  15. I think maybe I am not explaining myself correctly. I use Bridge CS6 & Photoshop CS6 as well as Affinity Photo 1.4 and they all work together just fine. What I would like to see, so I can ditch Adobe completely, would be a Bridge like application from Affinity that would enable me to review, search, rate and select multiple images to work on with their RAW processing engine. MK
  16. Yes I was aware and have a copy running on one of our Windows machines - but I am having a problem using it with ACR - error message you don't have any qualifying products so for me it is essentially an image browser, But Bridge with CS6 works just fine for me - just wishing there was an Affinity version of Bridge along with RAW processing that would handle multiple images MK
  17. Greetings, my name is Mike and I am a professional photographer based in Walnut Creek California . Long time Adobe Photoshop user all the way from version 7 and stopped at CS6. - really upset with some of the CS6 bugs that were only fixed in subscription model - don’t get me started on the CS6 crop fiasco…….. We can process around 300 images a day, using Bridge/ACR to ingest and apply initial corrections then Photoshop for the final touches. Don’t use Lightroom never really took to it. I read some great reviews about Affinity Photo so went out and invested in a Mac Mini and purchased AP through the App Store. To say I am impressed with AP is an understatement and have gotten to the point where my some of my final client files are finished in AP. Notably a large panorama for an advertising project which we created from 10 images from the Pentax 645z (50.1 Megapixels). Did an admirable job and had a very pleased client. Not a bad start considering we only started on December 14. :D Would love to me able to move completely away from Adobe but really need an equivalent of Bridge to be able to manage lots of images - when you process large volumes of images productivity is key. Being able to select multiple RAW images and being able to tweak exposure, contrast and apply lens correction to the batch of images is a real time saver. As a foot note we also purchased Affinity Designer. Wow really impressed!! We have already used the AD to create a couple of custom flyers for a client. The only issue I have with AD at the moment is being restricted with the Place tool being limited to the same file type as the original. Would love the ability to “Replace” a TIFF file with a PSD file and vice versa - that would be a great time saver when working with multiple image types. Looking forward to the future and hope a that a Bridge and In Design type products are not too far away Cheers Mike
  18. Currently the Replace Document feature is limited to replacing the same file type. For instance you can only replace a JPEG file with a JPEG file. Many times I will get multiple file types from a client, JPEG, PSD and TIFF . Would be a great productivity help to allow the Replace Function to replace with all supported file types. Saves having to convert before placing This current restriction is not totally uniform as you can Replace a PSD file with a PDF and they are sort of different :) . This feature would allow me to further my weaning from Photoshop/Bridge/AI Cheers and thanks for listening MK
  19. Really impressed with the Pano feature in 1.4.. As a quick test I loaded a three image panorama from my Pentax 645z (50.1 mp) and running on my little Mac mini rendered the pano quite quickly, on par with AutoPano Pro running on an i7 32 GB PC system The images stitched seamlessly with no artifacts. Well done So my feature request would be some additional Pano Projection settings. Not interested in the esoteric projections like Small Earth and Mirror Ball, but: Planar Mercator Cyndrical Would be more than welcome additions Thanks for a great product..... MK
  20. Thanks, I did figure this out around 1:00 AM this morning - thanks to AP being more than slightly addictive :D Now my challenge is to figure out what I am doing wrong flattening layers - but that is a different topic MK
  21. Long time Photoshop user and gave just started to use Afffinity Photo in earnest. Most of the tools and features I have gotten a fair understanding but one item that I use a lot in portrait work is dodge and burn. In Photoshop I would create a new layer with the blend mode set to soft light and filled with 50% grey (All set from the create new layer dialog), then painting with a soft brush with color set to white to dodge or black to burn; my brush settings are normally set to 12% Opacity and 7% Flow. I have tried to find a way to do this in AP and have failed miserably...Anyone have tips or instructions on how I can do this.... Thanks Mike (2-day neewbie)
