  1. I agree that the Develop persona's in ability to store development settings for later revision is a problem, which is why I use Lightroom for cataloging and RAW processing. LR does non-destructively store your edits in the catalog. I would say that 90% of my work used to be done in LR alone, and only occasionally slipping into Photoshop CS5 for specific needs that couldn't be handled in LR. Now that I have grown more comfortable with Affinity, I would say that 75% of my work is in LR and I often find myself jumping into Affinity to enhance an image. It's so easy and so much less expensive than Photoshop, especially as CS5 seems to be increasingly outdated. I am thrilled with the fact that MEB and other moderators are here on the forum responding daily to user inquiries, and I expect that Affinity will address issues we raise here. I am looking forward to their promised Digital Asset Mangement program, and hope that it will replace LR completely, allowing us to work more seemlessly in an Affinity environment. As Adobe presses us more and more into the Creative Cloud, I am looking for the way to escape them.
  2. Wow! I hadn't expected anyone to do anything with my samples! What a supportive community we have here! Thanks for the link Asha and to Crabtrem for tips on how to replicate my drawing in AP!
  3. In Photoshop there are a number of ways to turn a picture into a simulation of a line drawing, pastel or watercolor. The attached is an example of what I am talking about, though not a particularly great example! I have seen fun examples where people turned portraits into cartoon characters, etc. Are there ways to do similar things in AP?
  4. Given the double meaning of the word "macro" for photographers and geeks, perhaps the macro persona should be named something different? "Script" persona? "Action" Persona? "Command" Persona?
  5. Is there a way to share these LUTs once one of us gets a Provia, Velvia, etc. simulation that we like?
  6. Very good points, but that's why I use LR6 (the licensed version rather than the subscription), until Affinity or another clever developer comes up with a DAM that does LR's library function well. If Affinity does it, then we can be pretty much guaranteed tight integration with AP. Right now AP does almost everything that I need on the develop side of LR, though incremental improvements to the RAW processing engine will be welcome.
  7. There is some level integration of AP with Apple Photos, as editor extensions, if you have updated to El Capitan. It doesn't take you into the full AP program, but you get access to some key tools. The in-painting brush is far superior to Apple Photo's own retouch tool, Lightrooms similar tools and arguably as good as PS's context aware fill tools.
  8. I have similar problems when I hand off images from LightRoom to be edited in AP. It creates a .TIFF in the Lightroom catalog but when I save, the photo is saved as with .afphot extension. The only way to get it back into LR seamlessly as a .TIFF is to select "Document->Flatten" first. Then the changes show up in LR right away. I appreciate having the .afphot file to allow further edits later, but it would make a more convenient workflow if Save option in AP offered the opportunity to save a Flattened .TIFF for LR and the .afphot for future editing. Just a little more LR awareness, please. At least until Affinity comes out with it's own Digital Asset Management program to replace LR.
  9. I have used Lightroom for years, and will continue to use it until Affinity releases a similar Digital Asset Management cataloging system. I am ready to make some sacrifices to escape Adobe. They have lost my confidence and loyalty since they started there "Creative Cloud" monthly subscription fee program. The release of version Lightroom 6.2 was disastrous, causing many users to have to reinstall the program just to get back to version 6.1. To compound their greed, and push users to the subscription model, they have started including features in the Creative Cloud version that they do not include in upgrades to the old fashioned licensed copies.
  10. Ben I was in the Apple Store today looking at the 27" iMac Retina 5k. The display is stunning, even it the only photos on the store model were shot with an iPhone plus! if I calculate it right, the screen is the equivalent of a 14 megapixel display. Dell makes a 27" IPS monitor of the same resolution that costs US$ 2,199.99, without the computer, keyboard and mouse! After the holidays, I plan on placing an order for the 27" iMac with the quad core i7. Thanks for the tip about the RAM, I'll follow your advice. I have a thunderbolt 2 external hard disk enclosure, so I may go with the internal 512B SSD, for maximum zip.
  11. I second this request! What a great feature in the Pano stitching! It should be in the crop/straighten tool as well!
  12. I currently run AP on a 2015 15" MacBook Pro (500 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM). At home I connect it to a 27" IPS monitor with 2560x1440 resolution for more screen space and an external Thunderbolt 2 drive for extra storage, but I love that I can pick the MacBook up and use it on trips. AP performance is great. The Mac Pro seems a little dated to be Apple's high-end machine and it's unclear whether Apple will update it anytime soon. When you consider the cost of high res monitor, keyboard, etc. in addition to the actual Mac Pro, it's a little pricey. The 27‑inch iMac with Retina 5K display would be awesome and I am sure would be even zippier if you got the model with the 4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7.
  13. Look at the tutorial on stacking: object removal. It shows a pass through blending option that should do what you want - instead of removing subjects that are different in each image, it shows them all.
  14. I use Lightroom 6 for RAW development, cataloging, rating and batch operations. Now learning Affinity Photo to replace Photoshop for individual image advanced processing.
  15. Thank you! I'll play around. I am curious whether there will be differences between how it handles noise reduction on a Bayer pattern sensor (e.g., a NEF) and the Fujifilm X-Trans sensor.
  16. How many images would be considered ideal to the best effect in stacking images for noise reduction? In the tutorial, you seemed to add 20+ images. Could you get a comparable effect with fewer images?
  17. It will be interesting to see how much of the Affinity Photo for the Mac you can squeeze into the iPad Pro app, but based on your success with the OS X app, I am betting you'll be winning the Apple 2016 iOS app of the year for your efforts!
  18. As an experiment, I tried using Apple Photo's native retouch tool to remove a hay bale in the middle of a grassy field. It removed the hay bale, but left a blurry green smudge in it's place. Then I did the Affinity retouch extension and the in-painting tool to remove a similar hay bale in the same field, and it left a clear patch of green grass. I was also able to use the in-painting tool to clean up the blurry smudge that Apple's retouch tool had left behind. Well done Affinity!
  19. Congrats on your great success on initial product launch! Keep up the good work. I love the way you listen to users and keep your licensing practices reasonable. Adobe, watch your back, Affinity is coming up fast!
