My fist reaction to this announcement – which I got a few minutes ago – is » The end of a brilliant era.
I think the main reason for this opinion is that Canva is such a popular tool for marketers and individuals. To me, this means that it's not aimed at professional designers, graphic artists and artists, but at people who want to be creative by accessing ready-made templates. - I have often feared that this day would come, because I could not imagine that Serif could achieve at this price level what many professionals (often excessively, imho) demand in order to replace the forced subscriptions of the top dogs.
Somehow this development seems unavoidable - and there is still the faint hope that this time things will be different than usual - because Serif is Serif. And because the people at Canva perhaps don't have the greed that is generally assumed.
So I’m looking forward to the lots of cool updates that will come for the 2.x versions, wish all the best for the serif team members and stay tuned!

sure they know what they buy, similarly to many other companies, but the problem is not what they buy but what they do with what they buy.
They dont buy affinity to make it better they buy affinity to make money, that can include putting affinity features into canva and letting affinity die, monetizing affinity to hell and back or a mixture of both. or but I cant judge that if they compete in any way it's a neat way to get rid of competition, as has been done often enough.
    literally this.
While I havent been in the business at all really, I'd say this is the case across businesses, when companies acquire each other it generally ends up badly.

I've been in the graphics business since the early 90s and have seen a few of these takeovers. Experience teaches us not to trust the acquiring company, because these companies are primarily interested in the customer base of the acquired company and the money of its users, not in making the products better.
And the announcements about the pricing model are just as similar as the statements made by the CEOs of the acquired companies. "A great future in a great partnership with the new partner. Great things are already shining on the horizon." And so on, and so on. All heard umpteen times before. And the real development has been seen umpteen times.
And the contributions to the discussion are the same every time, including the call to have a little faith in the companies. It's all been done before.

    1. Right, we honestly waited too long for pretty basic functionalities that Corel Xara and AI had for decades…
    2. No. No hope for better/faster/smarter Affinity Suite in near future - Serif have today told us that the company was in dangerous financial situation, and, first best offer won the battle of this sinking ship…

i share everyone's concern about what will eventually happen to the Affinity suite, though I am more optimistic than some. But even if the worst happens, if there are subscriptions or the product becomes something we don't want, or ends up being cancelled, Affinity has some good reason to take the deal. It's a significant payday for, I hope, every one of the 90 devs who make Affinity. And they deserve it for having delivered such a beautiful and useful creation to us, from which we've benefitted for many years. Thank you, Affinity devs!

Ethics and philosophy aside, most major game studios are currently updating their contracts to prohibit the use of generative AI. The film industry is sure to follow, if it hasn't already. I know this eludes techbros' hype bubble, but generated imagery is in copyright limbo. The law always lags a few years behind disruptive technology, and it is not at all clear yet where it's going to land (and there are already legal precedents of individuals being denied copyright of AI images).
All these images may end up in public domain, or even as property of the algorithm's creator, which would be even funnier. No sane company would risk its IP for a workflow speed-up that it doesn't really need in the first place (and believe me, they don't).
Generative fill seems like a more innocuous kind of AI, but it still constitutes whole portions of your image not being yours. You'd need to prove that your use of it is "transformative", as defined by law. That definition is vague, though, and too dated to cover AI use cases, so the extent of changes needed is unclear. Are a few adjustment layers on top considered "transformative"? A liquify? Good luck with that.
The point is, concentrating on AI would move Affinity away from pro concerns and more towards hobbyist territory.

Just some addition wrt to perfomances between Adobe and Capture one + Affinity and  "the cheapest" professional solution.

    Performance
Lightroom vs Capture one was tested on Apple's new Apple Studio M1 max and Ultra
    Same for Affinty Photo performance

You'll find that Lightroom will significal improve by spending more money on hardware.
However, compare those values against the values of capture one and you'll see that Capture one is already way faster than Lightroom on the fastest hardware today, not matter if you buy a Max or an Ultra.
If you want to save money, you better can invest in capture one than in more expensive hardware to get Adobe running at perfomances like Capture one.
Also, if you want top performance also for affinity photo, the Apple Ultra is 2x as fast as the Max for Affinity Photo.
(Apple Max is already blowing off your experience with amazing performance)
Anyhow, if you go for the more expensive hardware and capture one will come with an update with optimized performance for the Ultra, the combination of Capture one and Affinty Photo is jumping far forward compared to Adobe's performance. Adobe is serious behind w.r.t. perfomance, output quality, efficiency, perfomance and the possibilities, capture one and affinity offer.

    Cheapest Solution:
If you really want to go cheap; register at Adobe, install Adobe Brigde. Brigde is lightroom but it accepts organizing much more file types.
Bridge require you to organize your folder structure yourself instead of structures and a big imngae pool like the set up from lightroom.
It works faster and more reliable when you move folders. Lightroom get lost here. Moving folders is Lightroom is reeaaalllyyy slow...
However, tethering is not possible as far I know.

Bridge and Affinity or Adobe Elements
Add Adobe photoshop Elements or affinity to Bridge to get a complete Photo edit package and this is the cheapest way to go with professional software.
Affimity is even cheaper than Elements and offers way more and better editing, so I would advice Affinity instead of elements.
You can export to tiff from Bridge and edit the tiff in Affinity. Save it in tiff again and Bridge will accept the updated file jus like Capture one does (but slower).
Color checker pasport is also possible with Bridge.
After a trial period, you decide to stop your (free trial) subscription, = no license, and Adobe brigde is free for use!
There are no licenses obliged for bridge and you will get all updates and camera Raw updates for free.
Adobe does not tell this but this is what they offer, complete legal, w/o work arounds. You can read it on many places if you know this and search for it.
Bridge offers all options like in Lightroom and combined with Adobe Elements most used functions from Photoshop are available too.
Combine Bridge with Affinity and you are ready to go for a cheap professional and reliable solution w/o any subscription.

In meantime I invested a lot of time to get the accurate colors using color passport get near the same results like Photoshop.
Let me share them here, I hope more of you can benefit from it.
At least it is a workaround, which takes a bit more time than Photoshop, but it seems to work.

I'm a Nikon photographer, so I explain it for Nikon. But I guess the same applies for Canon and Sony users
First you need an option to get your .raw file converted to a .dng file

    1) Unfortunately, you cannot create a .dng file from affinity
    Therefore
Download and install the free Adobe Raw to .dng Convertor:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/nl/photoshop/using/adobe-dng-converter.html
Put your color checker files in one map.
Open de .dng convertor and start the conversion using the convertor. Do not change any setting into the Raw convertor.
Once you have the .dng file, open Color checker tool and create your specific profile.
This will generate a .dcp file.

    2) Unfortunately, this cannot be used as a profile within Affinity.
Because of this, a icc file must be created.
A command line converter cam be found here:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/dcp2icc/files/

Just run the exe for example:
    dpc2icc [dcpprofile]
    eg:
    dpc2icc Flash_lights.dcp 5200

This will create the icc file.
Register / install the icc file in Windows by right click the file and install it

Now open your Raw file in Affinity and do nothing.
Click "Develop" and go to adjustments.
Select soft proof and select the icc profile.
This should adjust all colors as close as possible to the correct color balance.
A hell of a job, but it works.
At least my products shoots match very close now.

Hope Affinity sees the need to include the color checker passport option into the software.
    That would really help.

I’m woking on a book with 280 pages (which works really fine, btw.). But when it comes to change some things by find/replace i.e. only in one chapter – how can I do that? Showing hundrets of results over the complete text isn’t really handy …

SO FAR I have had no problems with V2 - all 3 programs have exceeded their V1 predecessors for me.

I usually do not jump on a new version for glitchy reasons - but I did want the promo deal - and I felt comfortable with knowing, YES, I can simply go back to using V1 at any time if I want - cause if worse came to worse, I can copy info from a V1 file to a V2 file.

SO, I did not personally feel trapped in to an upgrade I could not work around - stay with v1 for awhile then - set up your computer to open up all affinity programs in V1, instead of V2 for awhile.

$30 for an awesome program was worth it to me.

for me its multipage tables. indesign CS6 (2013) which is last non-subscription version is capable to do this flawlessly, and its old as hell.  Try to do catalogues or scientific documents or even larger manuals without this. Its pain in a** . Im asking for this feature with many professionals since release. So still have to have installed CS6 for some work.

To me personally, version 2 is overhyped, esp. publisher and its more like GUI change, and more like version 1.11 than 2.0. That overmarketinged "something big is comming" only damaged the product. Its not big. its few features that have been asked years, and money request. But on the other side, i have no problem pay them again, even every year, for upgrade. Its not a problem. And as i stated few months maybe years ago, also would pay way more to get fully working professional suite without significant bugs (forexample, on PC, there was no acceleration for AMD high end cards, with information, that its bug in AMD drivers, which was ofc nonsense -  as we see version 2 working accelerated without problems, and in meantime, plenty of graphic programms, using same acceleration also without problems).
Only thing i was really waiting for ages was designer's warp, even 4 corners skew would do the trick. What suprises me is, that its non destructive and very good designed. Thumbs up.
So yea. A bit salty, but did buy version 2 not because of being big, but to support the devs.

I know this message could be a bit off topic here, but...
I want to congratulate the team that makes it possible to have Affinity, and I have just mounted a hardcover book of 315 x240 mm, (not a flyer or brochure for a restaurant only,  but those works also are professional work, right?) in deluxe edition for the Ministry of Culture of my country, the book has 60% high quality photos and 40% texts of 360 pages whose typography of large titles is one that I have designed myself, this book already had much advanced work and was about to close edition, and has not given me any problem to open it in APublisher 2.0 and work it cleanly, with confidence and security in what one knows how to do, we also have a phrase here: Who does not risk. .. does not win!
Being that in my country the vast majority of people in the field use pirated software for almost everything, including Adobe suites, also Corel and Quark, the price of about 80 gringo dollars, it's a bargain for three high quality programs that also work linked, are fast and efficient, plus they can be installed on the damn iPad, get that from other companies, that would cost you an egg ... and the other one too!
Be patients, I´m sure the dev team would fix the issues in the next days.

I would use the parenthesis to enclose what I want to be included. Then use the backslash \ and a number to indicate which set of parenthesis enclosed search terms I want to use in the replacement.
    Find:
       ^(.+)$
    Replace:
Here is the original search term: /1
    Or...
/1: That was the original search term.
The /1 is what is in the parenthesis.
Note that the $ is for the end of a line, you may not really need it because of the way .+ works for finding everything except a new line.

Just a note: There is a difference in this two methods which may confuse in certain situations:
    • If you type your calculation after the existing value then the result will get calculated with the displayed value which may be rounded according to your app preference for the number of decimals.
    • If you delete / replace the existing value and type your calculation in the empty field then the result will get calculated with the not-rounded, internal, mathematically correct value incl. all its hidden decimals.
Usually it might not matter and will occur only for certain combinations of large hidden decimals + large calculation (especially multiplication & division). It can occur more surprisingly obvious if you change the unit between quite different scales, e.g. millimeter <> meter, or point <> feet, yard. For instance with 2 decimals the value 5.55 mm gets displayed as 0,01 m, which may confuse already. If they get multiplied by 2 with the two methods and in their different units the resulting differences become visually obvious.
    A thread about this speciality:

    Hallo,
    Best,

From the sounds of your setup, you need to have the calibrated x-rite profile set for your monitor, then you would use the printer profile as the ICC profile set within Affinity.
