Petar Petrenko reacted to MattP in [ADe] Affinity Designer, what about 2.0?
We used to have a 'Object Inspector' panel in DrawPlus and have had it many, many years - it's definitely a valuable thing and I expect that we'll come out with a new, improved version for Affinity Designer in time...
Thank you for all the other ideas and suggestions, I'm certainly reading them with interest! :)

Petar Petrenko reacted to R C-R in [Photo] Adjustment Palette
Since Affinity adjustment layers include a full, canvas sized live preview, why would you need a separate checkbox to enable that?
Photoshop needs it because many of its adjustments are based on inefficient older "legacy" code so canvas sized previews can often take several seconds to render (or several tens of seconds for a large image file on a slower computer). Basically, it is a workaround, not a feature.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Fixx in [Photo] Adjustment Palette
Nor there is in any other tool, that is, the standard before/after button. Only some trendy split screen gadget.
Also, you cannot use keyboard to handle any adjustment palette: esc – no, return – no, cmd-W no!, cmd-callup character – no, just makes a new adj layer.
This means mousing miles.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Mark Ingram in Affinity Photo Public Beta - 1.5.0.44 (RC)
Click here to download the latest beta
Status: Release Candidate
Purpose: Stability
Requirements: None
As this is a beta release, it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that you may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is worth noting that files created in Affinity Photo 1.5 cannot be opened in Affinity Photo 1.4, which means that they cannot be opened in the latest Mac App Store version of Affinity Photo, and instead you will need the latest macOS 1.5 beta.
We hope you enjoy the latest build, and as always, if you've got any problems, please don't hesitate to post here and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks once again for your continued feedback.
If you have a general question about the software, please head over to the Questions Forum, or if you have any suggestions, please head over to the Feature Requests forum.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from SilverBird in Affinity Designer: Display all glyphs
Some applications display the glyphs only for Normal/Regular font or better said -- non-italic ones. It would be very convenient if Affinity software displays the glyphs from ALL members of the typeface family because, especially for Macedonian users, there are some specific glyphs for our language in italic fonts.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Patrick Connor in Future support for Corel Draw files?
There's no point importing formats that have lots of features that Affinity hasn't implemented yet, it just leads to complaints that the imported file looks wrong.
Features first, them import filters... IMHO

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from gr8rck in Affinity Designer for Windows has launched!
Hey guys, what's going on here? In 100+ posts on this topic you are talking about some discount. How big discount do you expect -- 5$, 10$...? Maybe you even want Serif to pay to you and give you free serial? Shame on you. Are you short 10$ to the end of the month? Give me your bank account I'll pay to you.
Instead of being grateful you have such a wonderful software for no money you are yelling here like old women.
If you are angry, just forget Serif and stay with Adobe. They like somebody like you.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Tourmaline in Affinity Designer for Windows has launched!
All that whining over $40. Try updates from Adobe in the past or other software where updates are way more expensive.
For $40 you get a great basic vector program wich will improve in time and I am sure upgrades in future won't cost an arm and a legg either.
For that price, Serif can draw in more new users. The more users they get, the more money they can spend on research and development, wich means faster bug fixes and new implementations of features.
Congrats gentlemen on launching Windows Affinity designer. Thus far I really like it. I am a new Serif user.
I am looking for the trinity(Designer, Photo and Publisher) so I can ditch the Adobe bandwagon. I am not feeling much for being held hostage all my life.
I am still using creative suite 6, but as I am more comfortable with the Affinity products I will more and more shift to the Affinity products. I am quite sure as the software will develop even more, we will have all the features Adobe has and more.
I am Sorry, but i really can't complain about the €40 cost, cosidered what the competition must have for updates, or even Photoshop plug-ins, costing a multitude of the price for designer.
If Serif can draw more people in to buy the Affinity software, it's better for them and better for us as well.

Petar Petrenko reacted to R C-R in Designer: Wrap text around an object?
It is the same for Mac or Windows users, & for professionals or hobbyists -- we all think of certain things as "basic functionality." The problem is there is very little agreement about what is "basic" & what is not.
Since day one the Affinity forums have seen numerous posts from all kinds of users who complain about AD lacking something they think of as basic functionality, including just about anything any other graphics app they use offers, whether or not it is basic to the description of AD as a type of "precise vector graphic design software." This includes functions usually associated with photo retouching, animation, page layout, 3D modeling, & web site authoring apps. Most of them cost several times what AD does; many require a subscription or an endless cycle of paid upgrades to remain compatible with OS revisions or eliminate existing bugs.
By itself, AD is not intended to be a competitor to all these other apps, "famous" or not. The idea is there is a demand for lightweight, highly responsive, inexpensive apps that can do a limited number of things very well, & can be used in combination with other apps (whether from the same company or not) to improve workflows for many but not all users. If you are looking for something else, you may not be one of them.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from adirusf in exporting a logo with transparent background
I usually create a page/artboard with the size that fits the logo or any other design. No need for croping. :)

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from RNKLN in Designer: Wrap text around an object?
Every user thinks that what (s)he needs is just basic functionality and very easy to put in some app. But:
text wrap
text/para styles
pages...
are not basic functionality neither for AD, nor for APh. They will be part of APub which is on its way in near future. I hope they will be moved (not copied) into APub.

Petar Petrenko reacted to SrPx in Best Graphics Tablet under $100?
My advice : Save a little more money and purchase an Intuos DRAW (is a non "Pro" tablet, but IMO quite professional), but Medium size!! This is critical. The difference is huge with the small one. You don't need badly the touch features, can be compensated as is small, fits well in the desktop, this medium size, so you get good reaching of your mouse and keyboard.
The COMIC and PHOTO versions of Wacom Intuos, I don't find so much availability in the medium size, plus there's a big difference in many cases among touch version and non touch version in price, while for actual pen drawing, there's none. But the pen for drawing works great in both cases. Just save you quite some bucks. The advantage of getting some software, for me is of no use if what I am getting is a small size! And I fear that the medium size with touch, is significantly more expensive, that's why I'd rather prefer a DRAW version if that's the only one they offer at a medium size WITHOUT touch (I'd love to have it at same price, of course), even if software is not included (right now I don't remember the DRAW combo, what it brings).
IMO, the golden purchase here is an Intuos Draw medium size. I could deal very well with professional projects with it and a software with stabilization(many have this, but you can use an external utility that adds externally stabilization, works amazing, called Lazy Nezumi pro, only 30 $), if I -hoping not, never- my Intuos Pro XL would break. The Pro thing...Yeah, better, of course, but IMO, not essential to do absolutely top quality art. Get at least a Intuos DRAW medium, the rest is your skills and training with it. :)
If at some point get more money, IMO next step is the so called LARGE (L) model. No need for a pool table like my XL, which is indeed not great for small desktops (but crazily accurate)
The small/medium sizes in Huion are reported to be quite good. Their screen-tablet, careful with the TN screens based ones. They have a several other issues you wont find in the quality brand, Wacom. Some can deal with those and still work comfortably, though. (Yiynova is producing probably the best quality in cintiqs alternative, but I'd need to apply to it a protector film to kill the reflections, it's a fully glossy one) . I know you asked for cheap options only, bu there you go, full advice for when/if you'll upgrade ;D
XP-pen tablets are also usually quite good. There's even a cintiq alternative of 22 inches at a very bargain price that is working well for many people, sold in Amazon.
But seriously, despite all the hype, no one really needs tablet-monitors, cintiq and what not. All you need is a regular tablet size between Medium and Large like the wacoms, and the medium sizes 150 - 200 bucks from Wacom imo are a golden purchase: best money/performance/quality ratio ever. Even if you purchase a Large later, the medium is always handy for travelling with your laptop, short staying time in a family's home, etc.
That said, all above is mostly for really drawing: comic, illustration, digital painting in general, etc. For exclusively photo retouch, IMO, the small ones can be even more useful as have less arm movement, more wrist (though that's not great for people with carpan tunnel and the like) , and that's kind of practical for the type of work in photo retouch for press or general photography. IMO. You don't either need line art precisión there, is a different thing. Also, for vector packages, when AD already produces strong averaging, for simple designs, vectorial ones, maybe a small size is ok. But the medium works for all cases and scenarios, that's why I firmly recommend the wacom intuos medium size (look well in the specs). :)

Petar Petrenko reacted to AiDon in What Photoshop Plugins will work with Affinity Photo Beta
The runtime path error is usually caused by using "System Cleaners" or "System Optimizing" software such as System Mechanic etc. If you are using this type of application see if you can undo any registry repairs that they did.
That error about the IPC runtime is a error generated because the inter process communications area is locked.
Type in %temp% in an explorer address line and you will come to the localappdata temp directory, In that directory is a sub directory starting with "boost_interprocess_xxx" with your username in the place of the XXX
Delete that directory and your Topaz plugins will work.

Petar Petrenko reacted to laurentia in What Photoshop Plugins will work with Affinity Photo Beta
Hi,
it seems to be a problem with this beta of Photo. All filters of Nik Collection work fine with a 16 bits image. Its correct with the mac beta 1.5.0.10 and under Windows, its correct with other bitmap editors like Photoshop CS6.
ColorEfex with the Mac beta version.

If we talk about support for other formats files, .sketch format is most important. Tons of free resources ready to use :)

Petar Petrenko reacted to MattP in Future support for Corel Draw files?
Hi Thomas,
This has been mentioned before - but I would agree that the forum's search functions are very poor so I'm not surprised if you couldn't find it! There's no reason why we couldn't add CDR import in the future - it should be an easier format than the .fh FreeHand import that we added a while back, it's just down to prioritising development tasks. The more times people ask for it, the more likely it is to be flagged as a priority task.
Expect it to happen in the future, but I can't say for certain when....
Thanks again,
Matt

I'll stick in my two cents worth, too. You people ROCK! I've never seen such a dedicated, hard-working & talented group of programmers. The speed with which you add features and fix bugs is nothing short of phenomenal. Other software companies should not only be taking notes, certain ones should be shaking in their corporate boots :)

What a great list of improvements! Now the next thing we need is the one improvement where Photoshop has you beat hands down: a real ink-on-paper text book like those by Scott Kelby or Martin Evening. Is there one (or more) in the works? Now, with this major upgrade about to be released, would be the perfect time for it.
