Petar Petrenko got a reaction from cadobir in Bleed Setings
If Affinity add by default non-printing guides layer, everything will be fine. There we can put anything we need to be used as guides, so I will put a rectangle that is 3 mm smaller from each side (automatically converted to a guide) and used it as a "bleed" mark.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from SimonF in Cant get my head round Document Resize?!
I found Photo's "Document Resize" rather confusing. IMO they should do it exactly the same Photoshop's one. That is the only reason I still use Photoshop.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Pyanepsion in Footnotes/Endnotes
Hello Moon! You must return to Earth!
Footnotes are not important only for short graphical documents, such as a cover, or flyer (a very small part of the job in desktop publishing). I do not know a book, a magazine, a student report, a company presentation, or a university thesis that does not require footnotes. It is even the essence of the service.
I did a test with a novel of 50 pages. This contains 20 footnotes. The text is just sticking in the right place. QuarkXpress 37 min. Affinity Publisher 5 hrs 12 min. What can I say about a famous actor’s bio whose author was on TV? It contained 480 footnotes…
This is a serious failure to correct as soon as possible, not a favour to please some eccentrics.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Aammppaa in (Object)Styles randomly changing its values
Wow - this now works! From memory and according to previous discussions it used not to make any difference.
So long as you remember to turn on Scale with Object at the time of creating the Style it will indeed apply without rescaling.
However…
this is pretty counter intuitive - I have to turn on scaling in order to prevent scaling?! the option is off by default so most users will make the mistake. the option can't be enabled in the style after creation, as there is no way to edit a style. the option can't be enabled on the target objects, as that will only scale on subsequent transforms. -

What are you expecting? In version 1.# to have all the features of InDesign? Just look behind and see what features InDesign had in v. 1.#. Did you start walking on 2 legs at the moment you were born?

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from Oval in Common Feature Request Index suggestions
Hi,
Working with guides could be solved through special guide layer which will be always on top of all layers. It can be locked, made invisible, printed or not and every object that will be copyed/moved/created to that layer will automatically became a guide.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Steaming T in A Little Bit Disappointed...
That is not an option unfortunately because I would have to reformat the size of the copied image every time. The best of course would be for Publisher to accept to place a Photo file with all the layers intact.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Steaming T in A Little Bit Disappointed...
You say that "All layers, adjustments, etc. will be there!" but that's not true. The layers in Photo is not transferred over to Publisher.
Thanks for the video but I already know that! The problem here is that I have nine portraits in a row and want to edit the one at a time while seeing the others for comparison. With the method you are showing in your video I am not able to see the changes before I close the edit and returns to the main page. In the enclosed screenshot you can see exactly what I am working on. I want to be able to color correct the images while seeing the others for reference. Also each image is actually two layers, one for the image and one for the background (done in Photo). Once placed in Publisher the layers are gone and when trying to adjust ex. brightness or contrast the whole image is affected, both the image and the background and I don't want that.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Steaming T in A Little Bit Disappointed...
Now that Publisher is finally out I am both happy and a little disappointed! I am happy because I finally can let InDesign go and no longer have to worry about subscribing and never own my software. I am a little disappointed though and here's the reason why: Along with Publisher the concept of StudioLink was also introduced. This promises "Full integration of Affinity apps". Sadly this integration leaves something to be desired. I am currently working on a document with almost 40 portraits in color. These images was first prepared in Affinity Photo by first removing the background and then adding a layer with a new neutral background. This resulted in 40 .afphoto-files, each with two layers. The problem here is that when I place them into Publisher the layers disappears and the result is a single flat image. This would be all good if I just wanted to adjust the image as a whole but in my case I need to adjust just the image without the background being affected. This is where I had such great hopes for using the Photo persona in Publisher but since the layers never follows the image that is being placed this functionality is not what I was hoping for.
I have found a solution though. I have made copies of all the Photo-files without the background layer and then added the background in Publisher instead. Since Publisher has most of the adjustments that are also available in Photo I can then edit my images without using the Photo persona. Not the most elegant solution compared to what I was expecting from the StudioLink but it will have to do for now.
So to the developers of Publisher: PLEASE MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO PLACE A .AFPHOTO FILE WITH ALL THE LAYERS INTACT INTO PUBLISHER FOR FURTHER MANIPULATION!!!

Petar Petrenko reacted to Murfee in Publisher Workflow - Edit Linked Images in Photo
hi @Macmonkey
The edits done inside Publisher using the Photo Persona do not change the Linked files, I have just tested this by making some changes before I saved the published file, I then linked all the images and they are still in their original format. If you copy your edited image you can paste it into a new document and it will retain all of it's adjustments so that you can adjust if needed. If you need to save your editing changes for use in other projects then you might be better off using Photo for that.
Try a few different methods to see what works best for your needs.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Granddaddy in Using the Photo persona in Publisher
I also am confused as the behavior is not what I expected after watching the keynote address today. This is my first experience with AFPub.
I create a new document in AFPub, insert a picture frame, and then open an afphoto file in that picture frame.
The afphoto file opened in the Publisher picture frame then appears on a new layer within the Publisher document labeled (Linked Document). Switching to the Photo Persona allows me to edit the photo in the frame. It does not, however, let me see and change the already existing layers in the afphoto file that I inserted in the AFPub document. It is as if I had simply inserted a jpeg file into the AFPub document.
If, as suggested above by @Mark Daniel, I double-click the photo, then the photo is opened in a new tab labeled "embedded" and the Photo persona is active for that tab. This embedded tab does show the layers existing in the original afphoto file and I can modify the settings if I wish.
But to see within the context of the AFPub document any changes made to the photo using the embedded tab, I have to switch back and forth between the Publisher document tab and the embedded tab. If I add adjustments to the photo using the Photo persona on the document tab then these changes are not reflected on the photo in the embedded tab.
I've only used Publisher for an hour, so I expect to be confused. But my first reaction is like @Steaming T above. It is not working as I expected. Manipulating and tweaking photos within the AFPub document was the first thing I wanted to do. I did not find a tutorial addressing this basic function. No doubt meaning will soon emerge from my confusion as more people post on this aspect of Publisher document creation with linked afphoto files.I'm looking forward to replies from the many helpful people I've encountered in these forums.

Double clicking on the picture still does not reveal the layers when switching to the Photo persona. Can you specify more precisely where I should double click?

Petar Petrenko reacted to Steaming T in Using the Photo persona in Publisher
I wanted to try to edit an image in Publisher with the Photo persona. The image file (made in Photo and saved as a Photo file) consists of two layers, one with the actual image where I have removed the background and one with a new background layer. When switching to the Photo persona those two layers is not shown. So if I want to change the brightness and contrast of the image only it also affects the background layer. This makes it much less useful for me. Am I missing something here or is this simply not possible?

@Joerg Thoeming & @Jozef
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums and for your input to this thread As you can see Dave Harris, one of the developers most likely to work on these features is posting here directly so thanks for your patience while we implement any new features.

Petar Petrenko reacted to R C-R in 3 in 1
I assume you know you must have Designer & Photo installed to use Publisher's other two personas, right?
Also, as it stands now, there are things that each of those two separate apps can do that can't be done from Publisher's other personas. For example, Publisher does not have a dedicated Export Persona, so you are limited to what File > Export offers. Pub's Photo Persona does not (apparently) support third party PS plug-in filters at all, & from what I can does not support Batch Jobs, Panoramas, Focus Merge, & a few other items that are on Affinity Photo's File menu.

Perfect!
This is what I want. 3 in 1 but it could be done without Designer and Photo as separate apps.
This is now a real tool for designers.

At least like ID, Q was built from the beginning with extensibility from the beginning, which lessens the demand upon developers to provide everything.

It would be good to be able to drag out a stock image onto a blank workspace to open as a new document. I think there’s a previous thread about this.

No, it means the final version that is shipped to the customer, regardless of version number. Anyway, that's enough discussion around versioning and naming, I have bugs to fix and features to write ;-).
