Petar Petrenko reacted to walt.farrell in Problems with LAB?
Oops. Sorry about that.
I couldn't actually, as your signature is so long (15 lines) that I had told the forums to hide it, and had forgotten I did that. I'll remember to check for that next time.

@Callum: Here's a better recipe for you that may be what Petar was describing, though it's still a bit of a guess:
Create a new document. Place an image file as a new (Image) layer, and make sure it's selected. With the Color panel set to sliders, and the slider mode set to LAB, note the current value of the L slider. Move the slider. Image color changes. Type the original value into the L box (or simply adjust the slider back to that original value). Image does not change to original color. -

Publisher 1.7.2.471, Windows 10.
Perhaps Petar and I are brothers in mind? See attached file. Second image from left Lab slider moved to 0. Third image shows the colour when moving back to 93.
If you select an image, there should be no colour preset, of course reverting the colours will fail. Still unsure where this initial colour comes from. P.S.: No recording possible, I am not allowed to.
P.P.S.: Same problem in APhoto and I guess in ADesigner ... overread the tag of this topic.

Petar is right. There is a difference in colour. Where do the Lab slider gets it initial value from and how it could be related to the image? Reverting to default it is L93 A0 B0 in my (everyones?) case. Same "problem" with the CMYK slider which starts only with K10. Moving C to 100 and back to 0 make the image look like greyscale. To revert to the original colours for the image you have to select the transparent fill.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from oakgt in Can we get more info about Group Text Styles, please?
Hi,
I tried to find out what are group styles but I can't understand them at all.
I opened a "Base" text style which is defined as "Group" and found that it is set to "Minion Pro, Regular, 12 pt" Then I opend a "Body" text style which is based on "Base" group text style and there is only "Font Size" set to 12 pt. If I change The font and it's size in "Base" style, text formated as "Body" changes into the font taken from "Base" style but the size stays the same from "Body".
What I can conclude from this is that "Group" works the same as the style is set with "Based on".
Does "Group" have to work the same as grouping the styles into folders like in InDesign? If so, why it can be defined as text style at all?
EDITED:
I know that you A-Team had something good in mind when adding this option, but it really needs some better explanation to be accepted by users. Until that, I equate it to "Based on" seting.
BTW, it would be nice if you add creating folders for text styles for gouping purposes.

After a better look, I stand corrected. Sorry to Petar, Alfred and others for the false alarm.

PhotoWhoa is secure site. I've bought a lot of stuff from them.
Of course, the real price is not $900. No one would pay it. All prices are arround $30.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from duckrabbit in Affinity Publisher is not a copy of InDesign - no massive fail!
I don't know what's happening with you people? Do you have in mind that Publisher was born few months ago? You expect it to behave as it has a PhD diploma? You compare Affinity apps with software that is already on the market for more than 15 years.
And yes, I am searching through the forum since it is opened. Do you see how many posts do I have and when I joined the forum? Of course I am aware of all missing features of all 3 Affinity apps, but I am patient. I am waiting for them to come. I've already dropped Photoshop and Illustrator and now waiting for features I need to be added to Publisher and to drop InDesign and Quark, too.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from Charles Mosteller in Official Affinity Publisher V1 (Desktop) Tutorials
Yes, but when I try to download it, it redirects the download to Vimeo and saves it with different name and different content. So, the best solution for me is to upload them to YouTube and group them like you did with tuts for Photo and Designer.
Thanks.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Clayton King in Future support for Corel Draw files?
I completely agree... There are two very strong camps in the US: Adobe Suite and Corel Suite. Corel has in the past, been the more intuitive program. However, it has also become quite buggy... That said, I'd like AD to be my main design app for workflow, but without the ability to convert the 1000+ Corel drawings, I'm somewhat hosed. Exporting to other formats as an intermediary is not clean.

Import filters must be your priority. This way you'll have more grateful users who like to get rid of some old, slow, not so intuitive apps.
By me, your first priorities must be CorelDRAW (CDR and CMX), InDesign, Xara, QuarkXPress import filters.

Petar Petrenko reacted to thomaso in Resampling embedded images
I think the topic is about saving file size of "Publisher/Designer" "files". (= file size of .afpub and .afdesign)
Even in case the topic is about image size on screen and page then your DPI samples don't matter at all, because size, in terms of dimensions on page, can have very different DPI, regardless whether linked or embedded. (... and is always non-destructive by the way)
So, to proof your thinking you would compare file sizes on disk.
Of course, you can understand "size" or "much smaller" in various ways. For instance you could comment an image of the Mona Lisa painting in 1" compared to a screenshot of your complete monitor in 15" as beeing "larger" or "greater" even though your screenshot's size is 15 times taller than the 1" image of Mona Lisa. In that understanding it is not useful for a discussion to argue by default about any or even every possible meaning of words but to concentrate on the intention of a post.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from nodeus in Resampling embedded images
Hi,
is there a way to non-destructivly resample embedded images in Publisher/Designer to make its files much smaller?
If not, it could be a good idea when creating a new Publisher document to have a "Resample to:" feature when "Prefer Embedded" is choosen?

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from DarkClown in Crop tool image sizing
Yes, I agree.
The real image resolution is its size (W x H) and DPI just inform us how many pixels are used per measurement unit for printing.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Chris B in Stock photo drag and drop not working
Frozen Death Knight is correct. I picked up on this when it was first introduce and I recall putting a few improvement suggestions forward. It would be nice to be able to start a new document by dragging in an image from the Stock Panel. I'll try and update you if I get any news on this
