Petar Petrenko reacted to Dazmondo77 in Is there a way to do this in Affinity Designer?
Just seen this and wondered how easy it would be to do between Affinity and VectorStyler (which I use as an Affinity 'gap plug' companion app)= super easy + = all vector :

VectorStyler is amazing, these guys get fixes and feature requests delivered in a snap. It gets better and better also in delivering all the good stuff in PDF etc. in production quality, and ability to transfer vector data via Clipboard to other apps like Affinity is a definite bonus.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Mr. Doodlezz in Numpad enter & keyboard shortcuts
Hey guys,
nice to see that I'm not the only one who would like to use the NumPad for shortcuts! 😃
After seeing many threads with great ideas like this one, I can't help but feel that a lot of the community's ideas are overlooked and ignored when directly approached by the moderators (»I'm not responsible for that matter and I can't/won't name/forward this to a responsible person ...«) so that Affinity/Serif only implements what the company and its employees think is important. At least that's how it feels.
Sure, performance improvements are great and the (staff) euphoria about special features like astrophotography is nice.
But I haven't had any problems with performance for years (fortunately) and – like probably a large part of the user base – have absolutely no use for astrophotography stacks. In fact, I had never heard of astrophotography before the update. Good for them!
As a long-term user, at this point I'm frankly just disappointed. Submitting what feels like basic and easy to implement ideas and requests/improvements for features like this that end up gathering dust unheeded just feels like a dull waste of time by now. 🤔

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from DNA0101 in Affinity Photo Windows Customer Beta - 1.10.0.1127
What a confusion: Special layer, Layer layer, container, Artboard...
I hope Affinity will raise Artboards on higher level in v. 2.0 and give them a separate panel with the same rang as "Pages" in Publisher.
After all, pages, artboards... are all substrates or canvases which designers use to place the elements of their artworks on specific layers.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.10.0 version recently released to all customers. We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the release version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from baoyu in Affinity Photo Windows Customer Beta - 1.10.0.1127
I'm not talking about artboards in Photo. I just hope they will remove them in Designer from Layers panel and add a new "Artboard" panel as they deserve. So, they would not be just a layer named "Artboard nnn" in Layers panel anymore. Instead of tenants, they must be landlords and have their own tenats (layers).

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from garrettm30 in Multi Find/Replace
Hi,
there are a lot of cases where we have to do repetitive tasks like:
remove spaces before interpunction signs; remove spaces at the end of paragraph; replace 3 dots with elipses... ...... So, I think it would be very useful if you add a feature that will save all these multi Find/Replace settings for future use. They must run in a loop until all replaces are done. Not to stop at the end of the file so we need to restart it over and over until it shows that there are 0 replacements. Something like it is shown on the picture I attached.

Petar Petrenko reacted to Alfred Beschle in Missing feateure in text styles
Ever since I came across Affinity suite I was quite impressed about the features and, above all, the performance and the speed. Working on a book project with a dozen different files which will only later be put together I miss a feature in text styles: In both Quark XPress and Indesgin if a text style in use will be deleted I will be asked if I want to replace it by a different one. This seems not possible in Publisher! Without warning it will be deleted and then I have to find which Text boxes are affected.
Have you considered of implementing this advantages into future updates? If so, I guess I wouldn't be the only one who'd be lucky about that…
Regards Alfred

Improved performance with: Heavily layered documents (faster rendering during panning and text reflow) Editing speed with long stories Placed images Embedded documents Low-memory conditions Placed PDFs set to Passthrough Documents containing placed documents (Resource Manager) Smaller PDF export file sizes when multiple copies of the same passthrough PDFs are present. Better output of placed PDFs set to Passthrough exported as PDF formats that do not support Passthrough. Added ‘Limit Initial Zoom to 100%’ preferences option (Windows) Implemented OpenType character variant samples and parameter names. Resource Manager: New Relink option for missing resources. New File Type column. EPS files can be linked. Various stability improvements and assorted other fixes. Help and localisation improvement.
UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Publisher).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

Petar Petrenko got a reaction from PONTHIEUX in Placing mulitiple pages
Hi,
it would be nice if we could have a choice to choose how many pages (PDF) or artboards to place in Publisher document. Another nice option would be to choose a range of pages (like 1st, 4th, 6th, 12th) and how to palce them:
continuosely -- on pages 1, 2, 3 and 4; or on the same pages -- 1, 4, 6 and 12. That is because the "Spread" dissapears after placing the first page.

I always use in InDesign 3-pages spread for book covers and 3+3-pages spread for a 3-fold borchure or even 5-pages book cover with flaps. It is very fast and easy.

Petar Petrenko reacted to The Dragons Father in Templates for Affinity Publisher like InDesign
I just wanted to comment in this thread. This forum has been invaluable as an 'information/how to' resource since I downloaded the trial (then bought the full program) about 10 days ago. I'd been trying to design my 120 pp photo travel book (of my photographic travels through 9 Asian countries, and also 3 'Zines' on aspects of my adopted 'home' city of Shanghai) on Canva. The free version of which is far too limiting for large projects whilst the full version is far too expensive since it costs double AP and also has a recurring annual fee) all whilst having far fewer features. I also wanted to support Affinity if possible (I have Photo too, though mostly use other programs except on an iPad where Affinity Photo is excellent) and their price point encourages that.
OK enough intro. The story goes like this : I bought the program and then was also surprised and dismayed to discover that no templates were included. Frankly the three provided in the current offer are far too basic for my use, though maybe useful for some as a starting point.
So after watching a number of videos on how to produce Masters, and then creating contact sheets (see sample attached - I created four of these) to use as design inspiration, I created 8 Masters (and will likely add more) that are working great (attached below, some with just sample text in the Text Boxes), note I've added images so that each Master layout is easier for me to recognise, it's easy to swap out the images for new ones.
I do have two issues however, I wish that ;
a) that the Master had an 'exclude pages' in the Apply to Pages dialogue box so I could apply to the majority but exclude those I don't want it used on (maybe there is a simple way to do this and I'm missing it) and ;
b) I could apply a newly created Master to a page already designed without removing the images and text (so I could then re-assign them to the new elements) though I guess I'm just being lazy and could create a new facing pages spread and just copy/drag the text / images to it.
I hope this story inspires others to dive into 'Master Pages' creation. It really isn't that difficult and took me less than one evening, as an AP newbie, (but is easy now that I've learnt how and will save me a huge amount of time going forward) to design my photo travel book templates from the designs I found online (I searched with Google and then clicked Images). Not only will I use these for my book but I'll also add them as a number of double pages to Envato or similar for sale at very low cost, so the time put into developing them also becomes a (very small) source of income but helps to fund my books. As a freelance photographer it is important to maximise potential income.
