When you embed the picture you put it completely in the document so you can freely delete it from the disk, it will be there. But, the disadvantage of this method is that the document becomes very big in MB and slow to work with. When linking, you just give the app (InDesign, Designer...) the path were the picture is and you see only the picture preview in the document which is about few KB and it doesn't slow your work. If you delete (or rename, or move to another folder) the picture from the disk you can still see the preview of the picture in the document but if you try to print it, it will be printed in 72 dpi.

Maybe it is better to organize voting for most wanted features and then you can see what feature has more priority. -
Hi, I've just recalled my memory. Xara Designer has one interesting feature. If you import more copies of a picture only one of them increases the file size. Like, the picture is 1MB and you copy it inside the document for 10 times, the file is only 1MB big, not 10MB. The question is why you should need so many copies of same picture? You can apply effects, filters, blends... Is it an interesting feature for Photo, Designer...?

The one-and-only was Calamus (Atari, PC) https://www.calamus.net/calamus/features_rip.php, not iCalamus (MacOS). The main idea of the (i)Calamus team is to build main application and then wait for third party software developers to make plug-ins for them. The main app is not so expencive (cca 100 EUR), but with plug-ins the PC version is 2000+ EUR. It is all-in-one app: bitmap, vector, DTP, even soft RIP [ Calamus SL owns a very save technology for output of complex publishing documents: SoftRipping®. This way Calamus prepares each single dot of each single page in your Calamus computer. Output is not controlled by external PostScript RIPs in your laser printer, typesetter or a digital RIP in China. Screen output and print output in Calamus uses the same engine (with different output hardware resolutions, of course). So Calamus offers real WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) in the physical resolution of your output machine or even higher resolution. This garanties a new quality in production.]

Just as bitmap features. This way all apps wil share over 50% of same code like Serif's ...Plus apps. And, BTW there are rumors the the Earth IS flat. :)

Nobody said it is wrong, but... if they add features from Photo and Publisher into Designer, then from Publisher and Designer into Photo..., tommorow we will have three apps with different names but with same features. :D

[PUBLISHER] Some new suggestions
Petar Petrenko replied to Petar Petrenko's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Windows beta version is expected in the second half of the next year and it will be introduced after Photo final version. So, there is lot of time to wait. BTW. I am asking for some specific, not so obvious, options that are going to enrich Publisher because some of them can't be found in other DTP apps and they will make our lives easier. -

If you are Mac oriented user, then it is easy for you to talk. Windows version will come far too late. :( -

Thank you. It is just what I need. -
Page numbers: 1. please, allow multiple instances of page numbers on master pages; 2. allow leading zeros on page numbers; 3. free postioning and rotation of page numbers. Reason: Page numbers can be used for numbering tickets, invoices and other documents that need serial numbers. Creating PDF documents: please insert an option "convert text to outlines?" because not all fonts are good for RIP and usually make problems. Without this option some interesting fonts which are not professionaly manufacured could not be used. Just imagine: InDesign, QuarkXPress and Acrobat don't have this option, so you must use plug-ins like PitStop or similar. I know that Designer have (probably Pablisher will, too) the option "Convert to Curves" but it will not be useful in Publisher with too many pages and separated text boxes. Chances to miss some text box(es) are big. Footnotes: please, allow multiple selection of footnotes with one command (shortcut) like in Word. InDesign doesn't allow this and it is very frustrating to select and format them one-by-one even there are more footnotes on same page. Master page elements: please, allow them to be editable on actual pages like in Quark. This way you can see the page numbers even if you put some color background or a picture over the whole page. This is not possible in InDesign directly. You have to use shrtcuts to accomplish this. Paragraph rules: Beside "rule above" and "rule bellow" it is important to have "rule left" and "rule right".

Have you ever scroll through their menus to see how many options there are? Myriad... So, we can say that Designer is "poor" when we talk about font design.

Clarity and simplicity are always appreciated, expecialiy when asking for help. You must understend that there are lots of people who would like to help and their mother tongue is not English so they can't understand complicated questions and explanations. :) -

Without seeing a list of your hardware components and setings of yours software's preferences nobody can help you. Every combination of hardware is a story of itself and so are setings of the software. You must know what every option in your "preferences" dialog box means. Drivers are important, too. some of them can make a lot of trouble. -

My opinion is that you don't have to "blame" your hardware, but to find out how to optimize, in your mind, the job you have to do. Lets say, you have to design a bilboard which is 6000x2000 mm. If it has to be bitmap, it is insane to do it in 300 (or 225) dpi. The solution is to divide width and height by 10 and that bitmap to be at 300 dpi. It will be printed, at the end, at 30 dpi when it will be sent to ploter at it's proper dimension.
