    Seriously? This topic is still going on? I certainly celebrate peoples' right to talk about what they want to, but across the spectrum of software issues, the icon for Affinity products is a concern?

    Ugliest, most worstest icon ever? OK..let's see here....

    Lightwave 3D - also great software. The icon is..exactly what? Sonic the Hedgehog on bad liquor?

    Same goes Blender 3D - only with a spike haircut? what do either icons have to do with 3D? Nuttin'.

    QuarkXPress - the name has zero to do with design, and the icons have been...meh...

    Scribus: Uses a fountainpen? Huh?

    Inkscape: a snow-covered mountain with ink dribbles..looks cool, but what's it got to do with vector drawing?

    Apple? because Steve Jobs worked at an orchard and for a time ate nothing but apples, which made him stinky. How very sexy!

    Product Icons must do 2 things: be recognizable, be distinct. All of the logos mentioned here do that, including Affinity's. As someone here mentioned, Affinity's icons make all their products look like they're part of a set. Kinda like Adobe's. Kinda like microsnot, etc.

    Continue to chew this cud if you want but Affinity's software rocks and their logos do what logos are needed to do.

    FYIO: Apple logo has connection with the Bible - the first sin of Adam and Eva. And there is a mistake - the fruit wasn't an apple, but pomegranate. ;)

    And, here a video showing the new rotate-on-plane feature of the Move tool.  A new shape is created into a grid, using the "Edit In Grid Plane" mode.  Then, with the mode on, any rotations maintain the grid plane perspective.

    Very interesting features, indeed. I love them.

    I was focused on yours Facebook page, so I saw this just now. It will be a good habit if you put some words on Facebook about such features.

    I have one question: I saw that you draw separate stars on front and on the top of the cube, but will the star adjust itself to the top grid plane if you move it from the front one?

  3. @Dave Harris I am, as many others, an "old school" and we are used to work in measurements units that are identical in Quark and InDesign. Any change you make in Designer, Photo and Publisher will make a confusion and will keep us away from using them as it should. Please, have this in consideration because, as we suppose, you make these apps for us, end customers. You must respect and acustom to some standards from the titans in layout software (Quark and Adobe) and have in mind that there are too many layouters and designers that don't want these kind of changes.

    I am sending you screenshots in attachment to see that even I select "mm" while opening New Document, measuremet units in some sections of "Text Styles" do not response to them. Those one mentioned in the qoute bellow.

    *      Space Before/After in milimeters;

    There is a preference for using mm for all text units, or you can use mm in a specific field by typing "mm" after the number. Otherwise, we aim for horizontal text units to be the same as document units and vertical units to be points. We don't plan to let you pick the units differently for each control.

    *       Leading in points (please, do not use Word schema for it);

    You can already specify leading in points. Our leading is very flexible.

    *      Paragraph Justification in %, not pixels;

    I'm not sure what you mean by this. Currently word and letter spacing are in per-mille, not pixels.

    *      in Position and Transform please add character shading;

    You can change the colour of text from the Colour and Decorations section.

    I don't mean text color, but text background color and text framing.

    Leading - in pt nott like MS Word.png

    New Document - set in milimeters.png

    Paragraph Justuification - in px instead in mm.png

    Space Before-After - in pt instead in mm.png

  4. Hi,

    as I can see, you have made some changes in Paragraph / Character styles. Thank you. They should work as they have to (I didn’t try them yet), but I have some more suggestions about them. Here they are:

    ·       Space Before/After in milimeters;

    ·       Leading in points (please, do not use Word schema for it);

    ·       Paragraph Justification in %, not pixels;

    ·       Leading overwrite should be named as “Leading” and moved from “Position and Transform” to “Spacing” instead of existing “Leading”;

    ·       in Position and Transform please add “inter word spacing” (or name it as you wish) that will control the amount of space between words;

    ·       in Position and Transform please add character shading;

    ·       Bullets and Numbering must be added;

    ·       Paragraph and Character shading and framing must be added;

    ·       Paragraph Rules must be added;

    ·       as I can see Space Before acts the same as in Quark and InDesign. PLEASE, PLEASE, add “first patagraph override” (or something like that) which will enable to move the paragraph down for a certain amount of space because there are situations when this is needed. Like in novels, stories… when a Chapter / Title doesn’t start at the top of the margin.

    looks like it is something between word and designer, i converted the .doc file to .htm and now i can copy and paste without problem.

    Fantastic!!! Thank you very much Dutch...

    Were have you been at the beggining of this thread. :)

    I've started to do it in Quark. It doesn't open PDF as good as AD, but has "Find/Replace" and nice "Character/Paragraph Styles".

  6. Thanks @MikeW but I don't think the problem is in fonts because in other apps everthing is OK. I think this is bug in AD (and probably in APh, too) so better to leave to the staff to see what the problem is. I would like everthing to be corrected together with my suggestion from the beggining of this thread because I found AD would be great for this kind of work, too. It still needs "Find/Replace" feature and if they make corrections to the "Character/Paragraph Styles" to look like in InDesign or QXP...

    I can't see any Japanese characters in the text of the PDF file, but when I check the document properties in my PDF viewer (PDF-XChange Editor) I see that one of the fonts embedded in the document is 'KozGoPr6N-Regular', which belongs to the Kozuka Gothic Pr6N R font family. As you might expect from a name like 'Kozuka', the font covers various Japanese character ranges.

    But why in some apps it shows as it should and not in the others?
