    Hi erikmh, deebz,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
This is currently being worked for an upcoming version (probably 1.8 i don't know for sure). Matt P. (one of the devs) already post a small teaser on Twitter (see here).

Thanks, MEB. It's really great. But, as I can see from the clip, we should have to convert text to path first. Is it supposed to work on a live text, too?

importing custom glyphs with g+nnnn notation

    Thanks guys for this version.

Would you be so kind to explain a little bit better how does this work? Is it connected only with IDML or we can use it anywhere: in text, find/replace...? I tried entering this code g+03c7 with adding space after it (hoping it will auto insert the glyph), with ENTER, but nothing happened.

Before a picture gets processed, there is the time before: raw development.

Here are some MUST HAVE features:

    General

    • It should be possible to save the current editing state of raw developing (URGENT!!).
Sometimes you spend hours and hours on the overlays and you cannot pause until you hit "develop". This is annoying.
    • Developing should be no-destructive.
    • Performance. Currently, the entire GUI response is way too slow. Sometimes parts of the canvas are not properly painted. Even on high end machines.

    Overlay tools

    • Brush/eraser,... they need feathering and opacity adjustment (URGENT!!)
    • Brush/eraser,... shall share same size setting
    • Brush/eraser improvement: currently they do not properly work for small sizes (splotchy lines) and canvas painting has latency (URGENT!!)
    • A way to combine gradients and brushes on the same layer
    • Polygon tool (beside brush and gradient) with adjustable feathering and opacity.
    • Smart selection tool based on colors/edges. You really do not want to brush all the details during raw development.

For me, there are 3 fields where the A-Team should be focused urgently:

    1. RAW development: addind the featyres RAW Therapee has
    2. Filters: converting all destructive filters to non-destruciteve and moving them into FIlters folder.
    3. Removing the Studio and:
    • associate the panels with appropriate tools,
    • some of them keeping it always opened
    • Some of them to be activated with function keys.

Cardo has support for latin, greek and hebrew http://www.scholarsfonts.net/cardofnt.html

With support for cyrilic alphabet you can use EB Garamond http://www.georgduffner.at/ebgaramond/design.html

Can't copy what the designer says about replacement for local Serbian/Macedonian and triangular cyrillic variants, but I've attached the glyphs and the specimen for your convenience.

By the way, both fonts can be downloaded from Google fonts, but there's a broader set of families for EB Garamond in Duffner's dowload page.

Cyrilic fonts are usually made by Russian designers and don't care too much to implement all cyrilic characters. In these examples 3 MK (Macedonian) chars are missing.

I got curious and started looking around. The web is a mess.

    found this site https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/mti/times-new-roman-os?tab=techSpecs

list of languages seems pretty good and there are a ton of glyphs.

Times New Roman, Arial, Courier New, Calibri, Candara, Corbel, Constantia, Consolas, Cambria... they all have all Macedonian, Serbian... italic chars, but the "problem" with them is when used in InDesign, alternates for 4 specific glyphs are not shown next to the non-Macedonian... characters as Adbe does with its fonts (Arno Pro, Minion Pro...).

  6. Hi A-Team,

Months ago I started a topic about finding/replacing all glyphs but I couldn't find it to continue on, so I have to start this one.

It was about adding glyph tab in Find/Replace to search and replace for those glyphs that can't be entered to this panel simply by typing it with the keyboard or simply by copy/pasting. I am concerned about a few specific cyrilic italic glyphs used not only in Macedonia, but in Serbia, Bosnia, Herzegovina and Montenegro, too. In that topic you suggested me to use open type alternates feature which works great. Really great. But... I won't start this again if there is not something problematic.

Open type alternates work great but only with fonts made by Adobe that, somehow, marked these specific characters as alternates. And this is not a case with fonts that come along with Windows such as Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri, Cambria... where this characters are not marked as alternates and Publisher's open type feature is not in game for these fonts.

Some of you may ask why do I have to use these fonts when there are much better choices like Adobe's. The answer is that most institutions like courts, faculties... are stucked with them. Recently I started to work with some of them and when I offered Minion Pro, Myriad Pro... for their substitution, I almost lost them as customers.

So, I am asking you: are you willing to add this feature in Publisher that will be usefull for other purposes too, or I'll still have to use InDesign for special occasions.

We have made fixes/improvements to this area (XSLX files can fail to import) of the program in the latest Affinity Publisher beta. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below. Once Affinity Publisher has been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.0 update to all customers...

The files are now opened without any problem. But:

    1. I found out some sheets are missing, probably because of colors or some other formatings;
    2. You must add option to select a range of cells to be imported.

    Thank you very much.

  8. Hi,

while working with InDesign (because of footnotes), I got an idea to suggest you adding a Text Import pannel with options like in the attached PNG file.

As you can see here are some items not yet implemented in Publisher, but they are for users to make comments on them or even suggest some new one.

In ID’s import pannel, which BTW I found very confusing, there are items for importing TOC and indexes which I don’t find very usefull, because, in most cases, page numbers will not match the new layout.

1 Beside typographic quotes there should be an option to choose between different types of quotes. Or, maybe, 2 separate boxes to combine opening and closing ones.

Item numbers 5 and 9-15 are real time savers. I now work on books which are sum of stories from different authors, at least 20+ of them. And, because of some reason, I must place them as separate stories you can easily calculate how much time I need to go through all these steps.

Item numbers 13, 14 and 15 are borrowed from FrameMaker. Characters must be placed in a text boxes and available for users to add or remove them as they need.
