  1. Simon - just wanted to let you know, I have purchased your Solid Foundation course on my computer and am beginning to view it on my iPad. Just wanted to share that success. Excited to begin viewing now!
  2. I would like to view this online course. Dowloaded the Udemy App to my iPad but "Affinity Photo Solid Foundations" does not show up when I search. I then looked at every thing Affinity Photo in the search bar brought up and still cant find it. Seems like the issue would have been resolved by now?
  3. Thank you for the extra info. I am aware of most of it. I just wanted to make sure I didnt set anything that made my printing worse. I chalk up any poor printing issues that I have to the fact that it is a $69 printer but hey, it does function (and unfortunately, keeps on,LOL). Whether the fact that its a cheap printer is the issue or not, I'll keep thinking that until I get farther along in my photo journey and learn specifically what it takes to get better prints.
  4. I calibrated my 2015 MBP using Apple's Expert Calibration method (as opposed to its default calibration method) in El Capitan. Should I set AP's Preference to the same name I gave it? Or something else? I only care for the photos I choose to print and I have a cheap little HP 3520 Deskjet printer so not sure it can be set to sync with my monitor.
  5. When you set up your computer you have to authorize (in iTunes) that computer to be able to purchase from the Mac App store and THAT limit is 5 computers. So on the computer you are selling, go into iTunes and under one of the tabs across the top, you will see "DEAUTHORISE THIS COMPUTER" therby still leaving you with 5 computers you can authorize.
  6. Sorry to butt in, but will this work for me except I would drag the exposure to the right? I take many outside pics of my black dog, every part of the pic looks fine except him, he has no detail showing. I have used a Quick Mask with ok results but the above may be another option
  7. Can I view this course on my ipad? I prefer that over my Mac when viewing tutorials.
  8. Thanks barniga, that's good to know. I figured since 70D was a little older it would work both with OS X10.11.4 and AP. On paper that 80D looks really good but my work is strictly a retirement hobby and the 70D seems a nice step up from my T5i
  9. I was able to cancel the 80D and changed it to a 70D (canon). Older technology but I'm ok with that since I have not seen any reason it wont work when shooting in raw, both with AP and my Mac. Only reason to replace my current T5i is to be able to give it to my SIL so he can take pics of my grandkids playing high sports. Thanks for the quick response.
  10. I just ordered this new camera today, Canon 80D, its a newly released camera. Estimated delivery is not until next week so I have been reading the online manual. It says raw images taken with this camera may not be able to be displayed on SOME commercial software for developing. It says you have to use DPP (which is a free canon download). I used DPP before purchasing AP, dont like it and have been so happy with AP and processing my raw images from my current Canon T5i. Does anyone know if AP is indeed compatible with the Canon 80D? Edit to add: after reading above, Its unclear. I do intend to first download raw images from camera to my computer, export them to Finder and then open them in AP. But since you have to take those same steps to develop the raw images in DPP, I think the manual is suggesting you cant Open in some software.
  11. [ I have attached a photo for viewing to see if you an help me figure out what I am doing wrong. I have "placed" the dog to the left in the photo, I do this all the time since I can't get them to pose together. I want to use the Clone Tool to correct some of the white showing around the outer edges of his hair. Probably cause I didn't do a good job of cutting him out to begin with. But, nevertheless, I always need to use that clone tool somewhere when I am making a composite of them and I have always been able to as long as I remember to be in the Background Layer. I am in that layer and I can do nothing. What have I don't wrong with this photo that I have not done before? As always, thank you so much for your help. Edit to add: ignore the Brush panel showing, I was trying some different things after I saw that the Clone Tool wasn't working for me. As you can see I am in the Background Layer and nothing that I was trying was working. Just neglected to take the screen shot when I was trying the clone tool.
  12. In researching my HP printer I find that upon drilling down, I am able to select a color profile in the print setup page. So I can set my MBP display, Affinity Photo Preferences and my HP printer to be all the same settings i.e. they all have the same color dialog to pick from. So, can you be so kind as to clear one last questions and then I will let this go and just take my prints as they are. 1. Do I want my MBP Display Color, Affinity Photo Preferences Color Profile, and my HP printer profile Color Match to be set at all the same thing i.e. sRGB iec61966-2.1 or Adobe RGB 1998 or something else from the dialog (remember all devices have the same color profile choices as AP Preferences) or does it matter? I guess the real question is, regardless of what they are set to, do they all need to match? Thank you all so much for always helping me!!!
  13. Yes, I can see where to assign that. What will that do tho? I thought I needed to have monitor, Affinity Photo and printer profile (not possible on my HP printer) all set for the same Color Profile. To answer your question as to the confusion over Color Profile vs Color Format. In my OP, I said I set the Color Profile on my Mac and Affinity Photo Preferences to Adobe RGB. When I said above that I clicked on Document>Color Format, I was referring to Dwright's question as to if I had any of my "images" set to CMYK. I'm sure the confusion comes from my newbie status tho.
  14. The colors are not wrong altho the reds being washed out don't look right either. I checked my photos that I have edited in AP and they are all Document>Color Format>RGB 16 bit. I don't see anywhere the I have selected CYMK since I knew nothing about that.
  15. Thanks, I did calibrate the monitor using Apple's Calibration. I am using HP's Advanced Glossy paper and have selected that. I have thought about the Spyder tool but did not know if monitor calibration would really help my prints. Also, is there a better printer that will allow Adobe RFB to be selected? Any comments as to whether this switch to Adobe RGB had anything to do with AP crashing for the first time ever?
  16. Questions from a newbie perspective so please excuse if I am mixed up. I am trying to improve the color in the photos that I print. Maybe that is as simple as just upgrading from the rather cheap HP deskjet 3520 printer that I have, IDK. The photos print a little washed out. Anyway, I have set my (2015) rMBP display to Adobe RGB 1998 and also in the Affinity Photo Preferences. I dont have the option to set that in my printer profile. After this change I see no difference in the washed out look of my printed photos tho but again, from a newbie's perspective maybe I just dont understand the coordination of color management between my mac display, printer and how it influences my prints. I do set up my print screen correctly with as many of the print details as offered such as photo paper type and max dpi. Also, this may be totally unrelated but after making these changes to Adobe RGB on my Mac display and Affinity Preferences, Affinity Photo crashed several times as I was editing a photo. As I restarted AP, I would get a msg there was a recoverable cooy but it would be missing several of my edits so I had to keep repeating to get my photo completely edited. Like I said maybe unrelated to my switching to Adobe RGB but AP has never crashed before (purchased 11/15). I do have dGPU in my MBP and I read that can have various graphic issues.
  17. Barninga - just wanted to thank you. I used your suggestion to add a live lens blur to a photo of my dog to get a blurred background and then "painted" him out. Not a pro photo but I was happy with it.
  18. I just signed up for Lynda.com today and started with "Affinity Photos Essential Training". I have been viewing it on my iPad all afternoon and am finding it very good. They are definitely geared to the beginner but it seems that it is what has been requested by many AP beginners. The instructor speaks slowly and you can easily follow what he is doing even on my ipad. A little over 3 hours long. Looking forward to see if they add additional AP training.
  19. This is how I do it. My photos are uploaded from my camera to Apple Photos. I use File>Open, to bring photo in to Affinity Photo After making all my edits in Affinity Photo, I Export photo to Finder>Pictures Open exported photo in Preview, select Share box from top left tool bar, choose Add to Photos
  20. One last post and I am out of here. I reread everything above. Brought my original photo (without a resize) into my new document and used the Move Tool with success. What I was missing is the using of the zoom (in) tool to get all the way out to the edges and bring the original into something I could maneuver around to get the whole photo in the new document. Again, I so appreciate your patience, I feel as if I am slowly advancing my skills in AP. Just for grins, I have posted the final picture that now shows ready to be printed at 300 DPI.
  21. I have been reading on the internet most of the afternoon and I do understand that changing the DPI does not effect the image I am looking at but I thought I needed to get 300 DPI for the photos that I choose to print. But reading what you say here, all of my photos show 17.9 mp on that context toolbar at the top which is the best my camera will do. So does the mean, that I do have the best print resolution already without trying to setup anything different in a new document? In other words, just open my photo, edit for any layer adjustments, live filters or whatever editsthat I need to make. Then save, export, etc and select a 6 x 4 photo to print from my HP printer screen that comes up when I click File>Print and not worry about it? Sorry to such a pain, just trying to understand.
