  1. I sure hope this is an ok question to ask here. But since I edit my photos with AP I hope so. I like to print a photo when I am happy with it. I have 2 small dogs and like to keep an album for forever memories of them. Know that's a digital option but I'm old school. So right now I have a cheap HP 3520 Deskjet printer, cost $69 couple years ago. I do love the fact that it was easy to set up as a wireless printer for both my mac and my ipad. But I cant help but think I can get one that prints better quality. So want to retain that ability i.e. easy setup, would like to find a printer that has a better quality of prints. I dont care about brand but would like to keep it $250 or less just not bottom price liie I have. Anyone use one they like and recommend following my wishes.....work with a mac, ipad and easy to setup for wireless printing. TIA
  2. Yeah, I have lots of trouble ending up with a useable photo when trying to lift the black face of the dog in my avatar.
  3. Thank you for responding, RCR. I used to be able to attach a photo or screenshot but no longer can. As you can see, I am technically challended which is most likely my problems with AP. But before that last update, things worked like in a tutorial. As far as posting a screenshot of my AP image, I get an option to put in a URL (?) vs Choose an Image.
  4. Not sure why, my questions never get answered any more. In the past six months I have had quite a few that have many views with zero answers.
  5. Since the latest update on Affinity Photo, 1.5.1, using the tutorials just doesnt work for me. I try to follow the videos and most often what they say, when I do that nothing happens. Basically, I have to then figure out my own steps to get some editing task to work. Before the last update, AP was wonderful, I followed the tutorials and did what they said. This time, I am stumped. All I am trying to do is write Happy Birthday on a photo I have edited in AP. I tried to follow the video. When I select the Artistic Tool I see nothing on my photo, but I do see the bar to select font type, size, etc all across as in the video. So I click on the photo, nothing, I go to where I want to start typing, nothing happens but i do see on the layers tab the letters I am inputting, they just arnt appearing on the screen photo as in the video. I go to the photo and click a few times where I want the words to appear. Various things happen, first of all the first few letters of what I typed appear. If I drag out all those little blue dots that now show, those first few letters are spread across the photo in magnified size. But again, only the first few letters, again even tho all the Happy Birthday is appearing on the Text Layer in the Layers panel. Now I can do this in Photos Markup but common, AP should be easier to use than this, I mean I did edit the photo in AP without issues. Can someone help me. I obviously must be doing something wrong in trying to type on the photo after selecting the Artistic Text Tool.
  6. One of the board members here, Drippy Cat, has put together an excellent series of instructional videos called Solid Foundations. There is a post about it in the Tutorial section on this board. I believe they are Udemy. I have had Affinity Photo for a year now but had never before done any type of photo editing other than the very simple editing that Apple Photos had. The Solid Foundations course costs somewhere in the $30-40 range, I forget, but is very very helpful to a beginner.
  7. Yes, but I had to figure out a few things to make all this work for me. First of all, I did a Merge Visible on the background layer which created a new Pixel Layer. I had to drag this new layer down below the original background layer and then use Albert's steps from there. This is the only way it worked for me but it did work.
  8. So I tried this on my Mac, followed your steps exactly and all I come up with is a red screen that completely replaces my entire photo. I swear I followed your steps above exactly. But what am I missing to be able to put a red border around my photo?
  9. Where do I find "Protect Alpha"? Maybe I have accidentally turned that on too since I can't use my Selection Brush Tool and no one is answering my post about that.
  10. Thank you Jer, I had success! I have been trying to find an easy solution to this problem for the year that I have had AP and this is the first time it works for me. I am a hobbiest photographer just snapping photos of my family and pets and AP is the first photo editing software I have ever used so am not too experienced. I have attached the corrected photo that had green eyes before I watched the vimeo video you recommended. The photo is rather small so hope you can see the eyes. Again, thank you!
  11. I havent tried inverting the image so maybe that changes things. Otherwise Red Eye tool wont correct green pet eye.
  12. I use my camera to mostly capture photos of my two Shih Tzu. Outside photos are great but with the flash inside I get the green pet eye. I do have a flash that bounces off the ceiling but our can ceiling is 20' high so I have to bring that flash down to level. I have used many methods in the year that I have had Affinity Photo and none have really worked well for me. So what method would you use to best correct a pet photo with green pet eyes?
  13. I will soon have Affinity Photo for a year and am really surprised that Serif has not come out with a manual or someone has not written one to sell on the market. I have learned and can do all the basics but still dont understand some of the concepts for photo editing so that I can further my skills. I have seriously considered switching to Photoshop, monthly fee and all because there is so much written info out there on Photoshop.
  14. Thanks for the reply. I saw the upgrade date of tonight on IT Pro website. I dont know if they are believable or not since I dont upgrade right away. I guess Apple.com knows the correct date
  15. I have read on a few sites that Mac OS upgrade to Sierra will be available tonight. I dont upgrade that quickly hoping some of the earlist issues will get a fix. But remembering that Affinity had an issue early on with El Capitan, just wondering if there is an estimate as to when Affinity will be compatible with Sierra? I have Affinity Photo.
  16. Thank you for the responses. Unfortunately bad timing on my end. This morning we had a lightning strike knock out power and our phones are not coming back after power came back. Internet service has been affected too (phone company is our ISP). I can log on with my iPad but not my computer or smart tv. IPad needs less bandwidth, I guess, we are very rural so this has happened before and will require a phone tech out to fix. All this explanation to say I cant send file from my computer. I always shoot Raw only, never Raw plus JPEG. But I did check the file extension after having this issue yesterday.
  17. It seems I dont get any help with some issues that have come up for me lately. This isnt my only post that has gone unanswered for a lengthy time. When I first got AP and had any problems, my post was answered with help very quickly. Now after having another issue not answered I may have to look at other post processing software that has more readily available written user documentation to help a newbie troubleshoot and/or learn the software.
  18. I took about 10 photos this afternoon, Canon 5d Mark III set to shoot in Raw. I proceeded with my usual workflow...I transfer the photos from the camera into Mac Photos, export Unmodified Originals to Finder, Open them in Affinity. Been doing it that way for months now. All 10 of these Raw photos from today opened in the Photo Persona instead of the Develop Persona. But I clicked on the Develop Persona and was able to edit and develop them and export a jpeg to Finder. So once I clicked on the Develop Persona the process worked as usual. Except 2 of the photos I decided werent worth processing in which case I have always just hit the Cancel button next to the Develop button and the photo goes away. This time when I hit Cancel I am again brought to the Photo Persona with the same photo still there. I have no idea what to do. Could it be my camera, bought new just a few weeks ago? Or is it my Mac or is it the Affinity Photo App?
  19. I have a Macbook Pro that does not have a cd drive so would have to download EOS Utility. I just haven't and Photos imports the raw photos from the camera. Once I then export them to Finder, I delete them from Photos. I have it down to a system and it works for me. Once the raw files are edited in AP, i export them as JPEGS to the Finder where I create date folders to store them
  20. Simon - I have taken both your courses and as a newbie to editing, love them. Tutorials for beginners are so limited out there in the cyber world so I am glad you took the time to make these and look forward to your next one.
  21. I have tried DPP, in fact again today. I even used the Digital Lens Optimizer. I do much better with AP. Also I first download from my camera into Mac Photos, export raw originals to Finder and the open them in AP to develoo/edit. I just wont do so many at one time again. But I really have no need for DPP, perhaps I just dont know it well enough but again, am very happy with AP for my edits.
  22. I'm sure you're right. About six months ago, I bought a 2015 fully maxed out Macbook Pro with 16 gb ram and a quad core i7 processor so I mistakenly thought it could handle that. I have made sure I have not downloaded that many since. At the time, I was hoping someone knew how I could get out of my issue without force quitting AP. Hitting Cancel on each of the 64 photos at least didnt create any other issues.
  23. I hit Cancel on every one of my remaining 63 photos and Quit AP. Then restarted my computer and AP, all worked correctly this time. I did load only about 5 at a time from my Finder this time to make sure I didn't have to deal with all 64 if the process failed again. I have no idea what was going on the first time, a computer glitch maybe. I still have so much to learn but in this case, I followed my regular process to begin editing my raw photos and things were different from the get go. I do have to say, tho, I am disappointed that with all the views I got no help as a newbie.
  24. The process to load my raw photos in AP is working crazy different than it usually does. I upload from my Canon 70d to the Photos App, export raw originals to Finder and then use AP Open to load them into AP. First crazy thing it took about 10.minutes to load 64 raw photos. NEVER took that long before. While they were loading I began getting multiple messages saying the Assistant was adding Exposure Compensation. That has never happened before either. Basically bleached out all 64 photos to where it will be difficult to rectify them. I did work on one the best I could, took a VERY long time when I hit Develop. Then when I wanted to save it to Finder>Pictures (my usual storage area) that option wont show, I get a very limited area of places on my Computer where I can export to. So for one thing, I would like to restart my Computer and start the process all over again. But I am nit experienced enough to know what will happen when I have all those raw photos sitting in AP waiting to be developed. Please advise what I need to do. FYI...this is a new fully loaded Macbook Pro that I have only had six months. Have had no problems with it before.
