BIG PROBLEM WITH AP 1.4! IMPROVED PSD compatibility?!

HI I'm problems opening PSD files in both Designer and Photo (both 1.4 releases).Either opening the psd directly from finder or by opening the file directly in either program leaves the programs hanging (Loading 1 Document) , any attempt to quit the programs I am presented with the dialogue box asking me to wait as Ione or more flies are a attempting to load into the program.
The file I am opening is a PSD created in Designer 1.3.4 and has been open numerous of times in Photo 1.3.4 before the update.
