  1. It's important that everything is right before it's released, no point releasing a buggy piece of software. As a developer, I understand software will be ready when it's ready. I think the Beta was originally planned for late 2015. When you say months, are we talking far into 2017 as an estimate ? :)
  2. I basically dropped Adobe at CS6. I knew they would do well with their subscription service, as there are always people with more money than sense and I expect that, post-brexit, they will love the way the subscription climbs and climbs as the £ de-values. I used to upgrade two CS seats every 2 or 3 years, but I'd rather change career than resort to subscribing to Adobe's software.
  3. Totally agree, I'm really looking forward to the Beta, or even an Alpha version :-)
  4. Thanks MEB, that's really helpful, didn't know holding down ⌘ would do that for a filled shape (Curve). They can then be grouped together into a folder named paths and visibility switched off. In effect that's the same as Photoshop's Path panel :).
  5. Thanks For a new product it's pretty good, but you're right, there are some PRO areas that are there, but implementation could be made more intuative. Looking forward to the next version. :-)
  6. Brilliant, thanks Paolo, That does seem a bit complicated compared to Photoshop, and probably something Affinity should look at. I'm sure it's on their roadmap. Thanks Gary
  7. Is there any way to edit the adjustment mask that comes with an adjustment layers, similar to how you can in Photoshop. If I open a photoshop file, the adjustment layer and accompanying mask is there, but I don't seem to be able to get access to the mask to edit it. I'm trying to replace Photoshop, so trying to find ways around all the things I currently do in Photoshop. :-) It seems most of the functionality is there, just a different way to get there. Many Thanks Gaz
  8. Many thanks for your help Meb, that's brilliant. I'll remember to make a duplicate. It seems it's more of a "convert path to selection" than "make a selection from path". Which would probably be more useful, especially if the selection area ever needs to be altered at a later date. :-)
  9. Ahhh, … got it now. Thanks for that. I think that could be made to lot more intuitive. I spent a good half hour on that. Is it right that the path / curve then disappears from the layers once a selection is made ?, so can't be used / altered in the future ? I second the request for a Paths pallet as a way of managing / retaining / selecting paths
  10. Found this post in a search, but I think I'm being a bit thick…. The Selection button isn't jumping out at me ? I've created a path, I select the nodes in that path, can't find the next step to convert the path to a pixel area selection. Is it in the tool bar down the left side or along the top ? Any clue what it looks like ? :-)
  11. Yeah, subscription is a nice idea (for Adobe), but not for me. I wish them luck, but after 25 years of buying and using their products I, for one, am switching to something more reasonably priced. I've weaned myself off Photoshop and I'm in the process of weaning myself of Illustrator. If I can add InDesign to the mix then that would be amazing. I don't think Publisher will be an InDesign killer for a while though. It'll probably take a couple of versions before it has most of the features we're looking for. I get the feeling this product will hit the ground jogging and build up to a run, in subsequent years. But an Adobe free future looks more plausible. :)
  12. To delete a segment, it looks like you need to select the nodes either side of the segment you want to delete, and then break their connection. However for it to work you need to do the process to each node individually, you can't SHIFT select and disconnect two nodes at the same time, it'll just ignore you. Once that's done, click off the shape, then using the object selection tool (move tool) select the segment you've just isolated and it should be separate from the rest of the shape / curve. They are supposed to be improving this process in later versions. So have I, and have already migrated. Apart from the odd quirky process like this, I'm not really missing Illustrator or Photoshop at all. In many ways I think they are both faster and better.
  13. That's good, I can work around it now I know the method. :) I can imagine the team there must be very busy, I don't want to pressure on them. It would be nice in 2.0 perhaps. I think a segment selection tool would be the best option (probably the node tool could do both). Select a segment, then if delete is pressed, a script automatically selects and breaks the adjoining nodes, one at a time and then deletes the segment, but if delete isn't pressed, the nodes stay connected.
  14. Ah, select and break each node one at a time…. that's where I was going wrong, I tried to break two at once and was getting nowhere. I think that probably needs looking at for the next version. It seems so counter intuitive to go through all those steps, in that particular way, to just delete a line in a shape. :-)
  15. If I draw a square and then click on 'convert to curves' (BTW. I think the term "curves" could be misleading to a new user here). I'd then expect to be able to click on one side of the square and just press delete. Instead, the only options seem to be:- Selecting the whole square Select a Node or Nodes Add a Node. Selecting nodes either end of the side I want to remove, then pressing delete, deletes 3 sides. Selecting one note deletes the node, but then creates a triangle. Selecting nodes either end of the side I want to delete, then selecting Break Curve (once again, not sure terminology 'curve' would work for a new user), does something, although nothing visibly changes. Now selecting both nodes and pressing delete creates another triangle, but this time with one of the adjacent sides of the triangle deleted. After using a combination of "break curve" and selecting various nodes to delete the side failed, I discovered that adding a node somewhere along the side you want to delete, then deleting the node, initially looks like only the node has been deleted, but in fact if you de-select then re-select it's actually removed a side of the square. I think Affinity needs a tool to select node/s or segment/s, and then perhaps a separate add / delete node tool, unless I'm doing something wrong and completely missing the correct method to do this :)
  16. I had shied away from using Affinity Designer for any serious work basically because, as much as I'm not a fan of it, I am still more familiar with Illustrator CS6. However having familiarised myself with where most things are (that dreaded learning curve), I have come to the conclusion that this is at least as good as Illustrator CS6. In fact, other than the variable line thickness tool being slightly easier to manipulate in illustrator, I can't see where your App is behind compared to Illustrator. (as far as day to day use is concerned). This is a serious piece of software, and I'm going to revisit Photo to see if I can learn my way up that curve too. I seriously can't see why I'd need to go back to Illustrator. This App is now a permanent fixture in our Companies pipeline. Slightly late with the Congratulations, but... Congratulations :) .... !!! You are the new Adobe as far as I'm concerned :)
  17. I thought it was switching the cloud / image off and on. Works here too now, but must admit wasn't instantly intuitive. :-)
  18. I'm looking forward to seeing the Beta as well. Creating a DTP package from scratch must be incredibly difficult. Adobe took years developing theirs and InDesign 1.0 was horrible. Best not to rush things. :)
  19. When using the selection tool, it's good that only things that are completely within the selection box get selected. However it would also be good if there was the option to select everything that the selection box just touches. Perhaps holding the ALT key down, when making a selection, could select all objects that the selection box touches, regardless of whether they are completely within the selection box.
  20. I've also discovered that holding CMD down, allows you to draw a circle from the centre, holding down the CTRL key draws to the major axis, and holding down shift constrains the ellipses size. This really is a brilliant drawing program, and so much slicker than Illustrator once you find everything. Can I make a suggestion that the Circle tool gets a sub menu that creates ellipses at different angles. Perhaps the current selected angle could appear in the tool bar, within the circle. Here's a picture of how I'd see it working. :)
  21. Excellent, a slightly long process, but once you know where everything is, it's easy. Thank You :-)
  22. If I have a circle, and I want to delete half of it - to create an arc (i.e. the circle is no longer closed), how can I do that ? :-) I've tried convert to curves, thinking this may stop it from closing. However every time I delete a point, a new curve is generated between the two open points. Any ideas ? Is there a check box somewhere to not close end points ? Thanks Gary
  23. I can get a standard flat 2D grid to show, but can't seem to find an Isometric grid anywhere. Any idea how to access it ? The Help only mentions a flat 2D grid. An Isometric grid would be very useful. Just found it… View > Grid and Axis Manager :)
