  1. Thanks for the reply. As true as that may be, I find it unacceptable. The colored preview should pop up no matter what kind of layer you have selected. After all, clicking with that tool selected will create a pixel layer if one is not currently being used anyway, so there is no reason not to give the user the feedback they are expecting. Denying the user the visual feedback they may be looking for because of a superfluous issue like what layer you might have selected is not an acceptable UI practice. You should never leave the user hanging. Anticipate their expectations (even if those expectations are set by a competing app) and deliver. You are not going to be redefining any UI standards with Affinity Photo. I suppose the issue doesn’t really matter since I have switched back to Photoshop. Boy do I hate saying that, I really don’t want to switch back. But affinity photo has proven insufficient for my needs. It’s just not ready for prime time. But I do hope that affinity gets better. It’s just not there yet. I paid for it, and I will jump across when it’s good enough, it's just not.
  2. This suite would instantly make Linux a viable platform for designers (assuming [a] Affinity gets some good development put into it and [b] Linux becomes more user friendly). I would use Linux over Windows pretty much every time if given the choice. Remember... Photoshop was the original "Killer App" on the MacOS way back when. It validated the Mac as a true platform.
  3. I had a group of icons. I positioned them, then grouped them together. I then selected the group in the layer palette and transformed them (distorted them). Then I selected the group again and added a "Bevel and Emboss" effect. Two things: 1) The bevel effect apparently does not extend beyond the bounding box of the original layer group (before it was distorted) as shown by the blue box in the enclosed image. 2) There is also some sort of limit on the bounding area for the bevel effect (red arrows in attached image). I noticed the same thing happening with shadows in another comp I worked on. These are major issues. Is this app supposed to be ready for prime time? Because I don't feel comfortable using in for production work. Thanks
  4. I drew a red line, adjusted the opacity, and then tried to use the erase tool ("E" hotkey) to erase the caps. Results below. CleanShot 2025-03-27 at 14.24.18_ScreenGrab.mp4
  5. I know that it is "assumed" that image dimensions are set up in the order of width first and height second, but this needs to be called out in the "Resize Canvas" dialog. There is no indicator of which field is width and which is height. Also, the app should remember (on a per-document basis) whether the "link dimensions" button has been clicked, so the user does not need to re-click it every time they use this dialog box.
  6. I've been using Photoshop (and hundreds of other apps) for over 40 years and none of them were this finicky. This isn't user error, it's the app. The behavior is markedly different in Affinity apps.
  7. I found this old mouse in a drawer and it paired with my Mac quickly and painlessly. I typically do not use wireless mice. https://tecknet.com/products/bluetooth-wireless-mouse It claims to poll at "4800/3200/2400/1600/1200/800DPI". I have no idea what the setting is of the mouse, I did not install any custom software to run the mouse. The issue persists. I was able to drag the edge a couple of times, but overall it was still very tricky to click the mouse at the moment I saw the double arrow cursor. I missed it almost every time. I don't know how these sorts of things typically work, but from what I understand about Fitts law, larger targets are easier to hit, and this target appears to be 1px wide. That's pretty hard to hit. (I may be wrong, but it feels like 1px wide). I hope this helps. mouse2.mov
  8. MacOS 15.3.2 (24D81), Macbook Pro M4, 64GB RAM Running two 4K displays. I'm trying to reproduce the issue when the native resolution is set to 1080p and it is not happening. But in 4K mode, it is happening. When I attempt to use the paint brush ("b" hotkey) the app does not give me a preview of the brush hardness and opacity. It just gives me the two circles (no color). Sometimes it happens, sometimes it does not. I use the hotkeys a LOT. Ctrl-Option is a key combo I use consistently when doing brushwork of any kind. Not sure if that plays into the issue. Also, if the color is previewing properly, if I pause the mouse for a second or two, it becomes transparent. (Not shown in video). brush.mov
  9. A "Roccat Kone" mouse. It advertises 19K dpi, so yes, I think it's high resolution. (Trying to move away form Logitech, this was my first attempt to replace my old mouse at a reasonable price). https://www.amazon.com/ROCCAT-Lightweight-Ergonomic-Performance-Aluminum/dp/B091BMFL15
  10. MacOS 15.3.2 (24D81), Macbook Pro M4, 64GB RAM Coming from PS, I have grown accustomed to having most/all of my palettes in view on my second display for quick access to tools and attributes. My documents can get pretty big, and I need to be able to access this stuff quickly and easily. As I did with PS, I arranged my palettes in a way that would work for me. I then created a preset. If my display status changes (if I turn off my right display, for example) and Affinity Photo launches without detecting that display, it puts all my palettes on the main display. They get all jumbled up and they disconnect from each other. They cannot simply be "dragged back into place" on the second display. I'm okay with that (even though the integrity of the palette layout really should be maintined if possible). I kinda asked for it by deactivating my second display. If I then choose my preset to re-establish the preferred palette positions, Affinity Photo adds little "gaps" in a few spots between the palettes. Thsi breaks their connections and makes it impossible to drag the entire group of palettes as one unit. It is also just plain inconsistent. Before and After images below...
  11. MacOS 15.3.2 (24D81), Macbook Pro M4, 64GB RAM There needs to be a larger "cushion" when dragging the edge of the workspace. I almost always overshoot it and I don't think the icon changes to the "double-arrow" icon in the correct spot. If the icon changes to double-arrow, it happens after I have already overshot the (seemingly) 1px edge of the work area that I need to click on to resize, this means I am inadvertently clicking on the item behind Affinity Photo, moving the machine's app focus and requiring me to click back into the app. If I go back to try again, the double-arrow does not always reappear, so I have no idea if my action is going to work. If I go SUPER SLOW, it sometimes works, but once again the double-arrow does not always appear to validate (or it seems it appears in the wrong place?) All of the window-edge sensitivities (I'm also thinking of the palette edges sticking together) need adjustment. They are unreliable and slow down the work process. Untitled.mov
