Laserjunge got a reaction from Besli in 3D extrude and 3D paths
Dear Affinity Designer Team,
I am very excited follower of your work. Your app seems to have the potential for a AI alternative for what I am looking for since months. I am very close to purchase it. But there is one critical feature I am missing and that is a 3D tool box. Beside AI there is no other vector graphics software on the market which is able to "extrude" objects and to use their path to make perspectival logos a.s.o.
To give a better understanding of my request I attach three AI tutorials resulting in very simple but neat logo designs:
a) 3D maze: http://gomedia.us/zine/tutorials/illustrator/create-3d-vector-labyrinth-maze/
b) Flying Stars: http://www.bittbox.com/illustrator/illustrator-tutorial-how-to-make-3d-vector-vintage-stars
c) Perspectival logos: http://www.vektorgarten.de/illu-tipps-3d.html
In addition a shape library for simple 3D objects (cube, sphere, cylinder, tube...) would be amazing.
I hope, I did not ignore a feature which is doing similar things.
Thanks for your great work.
Cheers, Laser.

Zzz … They are on the road map since three years.

Arrow heads in progress... This is what I hear since two years. Very frustrating. Here is a little list of software that allows drawing arrows just to see with what AD still cannot compete:
Inkscape
Gimp
OmniGraffle
Paint2 (!)
EazyDraw (!!)
and PowerPoint
and I know that PowerPoint is no design software, but imagine that even horrendous Microsoft "software" offers this simple feature.
Please, if there is a most wanted list, I am pretty sure this topic should be somewhere on top. Please make it happen for us guys who are not simply drawing beautiful colorful pictures. Cheers.

Simple arrow heads as in Illustrator, xfig or Inkscape would be fine to draw stuff like UML diagrams.

Maybe we can start with more simple arrowheads to satisfy 80% of the needs before the world's best implementation is ready next year or so?

It's a shame!
I bought Affinity Designer just the first day it was released at AppleStore. An awesome program with a nasty surprise: no arrowheads. It was my fault not to check for this feature... I just couldn't conceive a "design" program without it, so I didn't check! I'm not in the "artist" side. I need Designer for "technical" illustration and I have to draw lots and lots of arrowheads in my work. In my case, no arrowheads implies no use for Designer.
As arrowheads were in the todo list, I considered it was "fair" enough to launch the initial release without them. I didn't bother too when arrow heads did not appeared in next releases. A question of developer's priorities... fair enough! And I trusted them when they stated in the forums that implementing arrowheads was in their minds.
But now is version 1.5 and still no arrowheads. Arrowheads are so basic for technical workflow that I consider such delay absolutely unfair. Affinity should have CLEARLY stated from the beginning that Designer would remain subpar in the "technical" field for long!
Now, I really regret to have bought that application. It's a shame!

I assume you mean "Draw Persona" in English language version, maybe a translation issue.
The tool you refer to, although ungainly to use, is indeed useful. . . in maybe 5% of instances where arrowheads are needed. Those of us who regularly use arrowheads need them as attributes of lines, bezier as well as linear.

A new major release and still no arrowheads... Come on!

Laserjunge got a reaction from thejapanese in Line ends (dot, arrows, etc)
Hi MEB,
This discussion is nearly a year old, see Arrowheads please. . .
I always have to go back to OmniGraffle just to have those "features". I am very sure that your team is very busy i.e. with introducing Affinity Photo lately, but can't there be a tiny "bug fix" upgrade with only those minor improvements? Maybe, I underestimate the deepness of changes what have to be made for the end cap feature, if this is the case I am sorry in advance.
Still loving your App, but I am still away from the point that I can work on the same productivity level as with OmniGraffle for scientific publication processes.
Cheers, L.

Hi duncang,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
This is already planned.

Hi, is there any way to automatically create arrows or dots or various shapes for line ends automatically ? If not can you add this to your feature request list please.

An "Add arrowheads" feature is the only thing that is stopping me from purchasing Affinity and moving completely away from Illustrator. For scientific figure making, this feature is essential.

Yes, I hardly support the straight lines tool with variable end caps / arrows, In science you are lost without that and in a lot of other areas they may be used too.
So please give it a high priority, also I am reading you are very busy to get the hold suite done. In general: congratulation, --- but the straight lines and the end caps... Thanks

Wow! Affinity Designer looks very good from the git-go. It's fast, well organized and pleasant to use. The text handling has some excellent features already. Scrolling through the font menu and watching selected text change live, quite a treat.
The main addition it needs for me to replace AI is arrowheads. I don't need a lot of useless style options such as Adobe offers, just filled triangles that have some adjustment options.
• placeable on beziers as well as straight lines
• auto scale to line thickness
• user adjustable scale acting on default size (+% and -%, i.e.)
• user adjustable head angle (again, maybe relative to default)
And maybe, if not too much trouble:
• an option to have arrowhead extend line OR
have the line shorten to place the arrow tip at the end of the original segment.
Thanks for listening,
Byrne
[edit] P.S. Another discussion of arrowheads suggests ability to round corners. Not strictly necessary for me but nice. Acts on all three corners, maybe adjustable as a proportion of the arrowhead's size.

Just wanted to reiterate our intentions here: We are aware that users want arrowheads, so we are aiming to put them in as soon as we are able to. I'm very sorry if this deficiency is affecting your productivity and fully intend to get this addressed.
