Hi Mike, Welcome to the forums. When opening a RAW image Affinity is looking for AF Area Height, AF Area Width tags within the EXIF info. As long as this is valid the Focus tab and it's option Show AF Regions should be available. However some RAW files have AF Area Heights & AF Area Widths, this small difference means our tool doesn't pickup the AF data to display. This has been passed over to the devs to look into, it would seem RAW files from the same manufacturer can have the small difference, as I compared RAW files from two Canon cameras.

Salvaging RAW images
Lee D replied to ievans's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi ievans, Welcome to the forums. Can you provide a Dropbox or similar link to the files so I can take a look, do you know how they became corrupt? -
Hi meinbier, Welcome to the forums. Are you using a graphics tablet and pen or touchpad as those brushes are designed to be controlled by pressure. If you're using a mouse, you can change this option on the Context toolbar, with the Brush tool and the brush selected click the Controller drop down menu. Change it to Velocity for example, this means the quicker you move your mouse the thinker the line becomes.

Hi miss_c, Welcome to the forum. The way you suggested is correct, the apps don't use a single file the source. So once you have created your styles, hopefully in a new category you can export them by clicking on the small lines icon and selecting Export Styles Category. In the other app view the Styles tab and click the same icon but select Import Styles Category, select the file you export to and it will be added to the category dropdown.

Once workaround for the moment is that you could use Adobes DNG converter, then open the DNG using Affinity. -
Affinity crash
Lee D replied to dm1215al's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi dm1215al, We are aware of an issue with the help causing the app to crash, our developers have resolved it and it should be available in an upcoming beta for testing. -
Hi Gary, Welcome to the forums. Can you first try resetting the app to default by following the steps below. Once reset can you see if this has made any difference to the loading times, if not can you give me an idea of how long it takes to open a photo. Can you also let me know what type of file the image is and it's size and if it's stored locally or on an external drive. 1, Hold down the CTRL key and open the app 2, When the other windows opens, release the CTRL key 3, Select the Clear button and allow the app to open. Are any other apps running at the same time as Photo?

Hi Watcher, Welcome to the forums. Try resetting the app by holding down the CTRL key and opening the app, on the window that opens select Clear. If this fails to resolve the issue can you check the following folder %APPDATA%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports to see if it contains any crash reports. To get here follow the steps below. 1, Windows key + R 2, Type %APPDATA% press Enter 3, Browse to Affinity > Photo > 1.0 Can you also confirm your system spec?

Lee D replied to kieff6970's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi kieff6970, Welcome to the forums. In the Help on Mac (OS X) you can click the Share button and then select Print. In Windows, simply right click the help page you are viewing and select Print. A small Print window will appear, just click the Print button. -
Pentax *istD Raw files.
Lee D replied to MAC66's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi MAC66, Welcome to the forums. If you're using Affinity Photo on Mac, in the Develop persons Assistant, switch the RAW engine over to Apples engine and the .PEF file will open. If you're using it on Windows, there is an issue with this type of RAW file, which I've logged with the developers to look into. -
Hi Freddie360, Resizing an image in Affinity Photo doesn't show the before or after filesize of the image, file sizes are only shown when Exporting. Some of the same options are on the Document menu, we also have the Perspective and Mesh Warp tools on the toolbar or the live Perspective filter. Apply a gradient fill to a quickshape and adjust as required, with the shape selected click the Add current fill to palette icon on the Swatches tab. You can only adjust the UI Gamma level at the moment, more options will be added in the future. Hopefully I've covered all your points, for curved corners have you considered inserted a Rounded Rectangle and then nesting the image underneath the shape on the Layers tab.

Raw files
Lee D replied to Robashfield's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
In Windows right click one of your RAW files and select Properties, on the General tab click the opposite Opens with click the Change button. Try changing it from Affinity Photo to the Windows Photo Viewer and clicking OK. The icon should change to a thumbnail of the image or the standard Photo Viewer icon. If you get the standard icon this may be because Windows doesn't have built in support for the type of RAW file you're opening, so it can't generate a thumbnail preview. -
Hi elgatorojo55, Welcome to the forums. Is you long exposure part of a set of images or a single one, if a group you could use the Stacking option to remove moving objects. If a single image you have the sharpen tools/filters available, can you upload a sample of the image?, we may be able to suggest another method.

Hi bsitler, Welcome to the forums. Affinity Designer will work on a Surface tablet , we have one here for testing. As it's Windows 10 the UI is the same as the Desktop. Our trials are currently being updated to include new features added into the 1.5 updates. These will be available soon from our site for both Mac and Windows.

Hi John, Welcome to the forums. It sounds like you are using the selection tool and copying the object correctly. When you switch to the other photo and use Edit > Paste, a new layer will be created. You want to make sure the new layer is checked as this makes it visible and highlighted, if you can't see anything you may need to zoom out as it may be out of view. Once zoomed out you should see the bounding box, using the Move Tool, move it back over the image and you should be able to see it and then resize as required.

Hi Petar, You didn't mention it, my understanding is that you want to use the Common folder to store third party addons such as brushes. What I stating is that folder is removed if the apps are uninstalled from the system. Basically that folder wasn't designed to be used as storage for other items apart from the files it contains by default. This is why I also mentioned the method I use to store/organise third party addons and any extras.

Hi shingiku, Welcome to the forums. Affinity Photo has automatic lens correction included, since the 1.5 update was released. We use Lensfuns database for our auto corrections and this is always being updated. This can be turned off in the Develop Asistant so you have to manually adjust the image in the Develop persona.
