  1. The layers aren't locked no. I'm finding similar issues now with Designer - drag out a selection and it either selects nothing or misses some objects. Click on an object individually and then attempt to use the marquee tool again and it works fine!

I'm not using an Ipad and don't have screen recording software that I'm aware of. I'm simply dragging out a marquee to (attempt) to select multiple items. Very often it doesn't work. If I click on the objects individually I can continue to select additional objects individually but for some reason the marquee tool just seems to be a lottery as to whether it wants to work or not.

  2. I'm not sure if this just an issue with imported IDML files (and maybe PDFs) but attempting to use the marquee tool for selections is often a lottery.

I drag out a selection for multiple items and very often it selects nothing at all.

Sometimes if I've moved on a page the selection will actually highlight as though it's selected the objects on the previous page! If I then 'copy' it doesn't copy objects from either page though. Normally to fix this I click on an object on the current page and then try again and it works.

Right now I'm attempting to select multiple items on a page but no matter how far I zoom out it refuses to elect any of the items. I can click on objects individually and that works but obviously a pain.

  3. I found a post on this back in 2019 which claimed that a knife tool was on the roadmap... seems it never made it!

None of the workarounds work very well without quite a lot of extra work.

The 'break curve' command seems to only be available on an adhoc basis (I'm sure there some sort of logic to when it can work and when it can't but I haven't figured out what that is).

  4. I'm looking forward to getting to that place.

In the meantime 95% of my work still involves converting IDML files and it'll be a good few months before I'm likely to properly switch to Affinity.

In this particular case though I probably should start learning some new habits...

  5. In files with lots of layers the scroll bar to scroll down through the layers partially covers the selection boxes for layer visibility which can makes using them a bit tricky (& quite frustrating).

On a separate but related moan I'm finding that on more complex works when I select an object/curve, because the default behaviour is to open the relevant layer in the layers panel I'm having to constantly scroll up and down (very lengthy!) in order to then select/deselect other layers. Can there be an option to keep the layer closed instead of automatically opening it whenever anything is selected? I've looked through preferences but couldn't find anything.

  6. I can't sorry, but as described when I attempt to place an Affinity Photo file into Publisher the colour is missing.

The file I'm attempting to place is typically:

    - vector layer with curves created in Designer

    - that same layer duplicated and rasterised

    - then edited in Photo with colour layers in between the raster layer and the vector layer

If I drag this file into Publisher I don't get any of the colour. If I merge all the layers then I do get the colour.

Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts > Miscellaneous is yet another option to override Zoom In/Out.
Works for me in text frames with any odd shortcut I'd throw at it, as long as it either involves the cmd or ctrl modifiers, or if I'm using any still free F-keys combinations via fn-F#.

For what it's worth though, since Apple in its infinite "wisdom" (aka arrogance) decided 15 years ago that MacBook Pro users don't "need" a NumPad simulation anymore, I'm using apps like Karabiner that will allow me to simulate and map NumPad characters via fn key. So for me it's fn-cmd-minus to simulate cmd-+ directly on system level. With only a few exceptions it works in all apps, including Affinity.

Other than that, I'm using a customized "hybrid" Swiss-Czech keyboard layout, with the + character being at shift-1. So cmd-shift-1 usually also works in place of cmd-+, including while in the Text Frame edit mode.

    Thank you!!

I just changed the shortcut to = (for zoom in) and now works perfectly as CMD +/=

Although I did then also have to set the zoom out button option too (to -) but now working as expected. Thanks :)

  8. Created image in Designer. Duplicated vector image to a raster layer.

Opened image in Photo and added some colour.

Saved image as Affinity Photo file.

Now when I attempt to place the coloured Affinity Photo image into a Publisher doc it only shows the original (non coloured) outline image.

I'm assuming something to do with the additional layers not being imported but so far as i can see there's no options for doing anything about this. I took a look at Resource Manager and nothing obvious.

Have attempted via drag & drop to place the image and with the Place option from the menu - same result (no colour).

  9. I don't know if this is a bug or just some kind of logic that I don't understand. I've drawn various paths, selected them and then expanded stroke.

If I then select some curves and use the Divide tool they divide as expected and I can select the newly divided curves.

However with other curves they don't divide they just disappear. I've selected the same curves and used xor/intersect/subtract/add and all of those work as expected but divide works inconsistently (or in this case not at all).

  10. I'm guessing the issue is that the choice of buttons is 'too' logical in that on my keyboard I have to use:

CMD SHIFT + to zoom in (with text frame selected)

CMD - to zoom out (it won't work with SHIFT selected for this button).

Presumably this is because strictly for those buttons the 'plus' requires the shift key but the 'minus' does not.

While this might explain why it works this way it's still irritating as for the most part I can quickly work by using the CMD and either plus or minus buttons but if I'm trying to do so for a text frame I have to be specific in using the shift key or not which breaks up the workflow.

  11. I have an even more bizarre issue with this.

In my table no matter what vertical align option I use each row alternates so that row 1 is aligned to the bottom and the next row to the top. This continues all the way through.

Clicking the baseline grid options mixes things up but there still isn't consistency through the table.

This is all the more frustrating given that seemingly there's no feature for alternating fills!

  12. Is this really not possible?!

I've just been attempting to paste a load of tabbed text into a long table and it feels like I'm using something from the 1990s!

First I discovered my tabs would only be read if I converted a plain text file into a rich text file. Irritating but no big deal.

Next I find there's no apparent way to have a table overflow from one frame to another meaning that I'm now having to copy and paste in small chunks of text into multiple tables one at a time!
