  1. Hi just an update. If I resize in steps, IE First Resize document with resolution and dimensions it seems OK. Then Resizing canvas later it hasn't crashed. It still does crash if I try to set up the canvass from the start, but doing it in steps seems to help. Sliders still fall off the page, and crash still happens if attempted first up, but seems to be OK in steps. Not ideal, but worked around. Still a bug, but not irredeemable.

  2. Thanks heaps for helping DM1,

    For your reference-

I think my work around will be to open a template at the end goal print size,

and import images/ content/ layers/ accordingly.- resizing to the base layer. Interestingly- my ipad limits the A3 template to 400 DPI -

though the resize options go much higher.

Still not sure its a RAM thing- it often crashes just flicking through the options, prior to selecting DPI,

and the sliders falling off the interface is an odd thing too….

perhaps ill work it out in a screen setting or similar.

Thanks again, ill let you know if theres a reason/ cause of these two things that I find with time.

Ok yes I am not sure of the RAM on my iPad, I'll let you know but maybe this is the issue. Interesting yours has no issue. It seems to occasionally not crash when resizing as a document so I'll see if I can wangle a work around.

    Actually has 6gb RAM...

I would have thought that to be more than adequate with all other aps closed ?

No worries James. I see it’s a largish files. Loading ok for me and not crashing when resize document is selected. I changed it to 300dpi without resampling. Resampled down to 300dpi 8x6 in . Also resized to 31x22.5 inches at 300dpi. No problems experienced.

What final size are you attempting to achieve. It’s currently 798x572mm (72dpi).

    Hi and thanks again

The image is a screen shot- albeit off the retina display ipad pro hence largeish

My usual print size and resolution is A3 297 x 420mm 600 dpi

Happy to go smaller res, but thats my normal goal- occasionally bigger for A2 or even A1 prints

    Ill try sticking to 300dpi.

Were you trying this out on your ipad?

I was surprised a reinstall diddnt sort it out.

Ill try on a wider range of files.

Ive also tried with all other aps closed thing it was perhaps a RAM overwhelm, but the results are the same.

    cheers

    James

  5. Hi DM1 Thanks for looking at this!

It seems to be happening to a few different files.

I will import a file from ipad photos, or a file on my ipad, or even the sample files provided by affinity  (I have Just started to learn AP more regularly)

They all seem to crash when I resize- which I almost always initially do to my base layer so I am working on a final print size/resolution.

    any tips welcome.

  6. Hi I am unable to resize a document in photo 2 due to crashes every time with any document.

In addition the option sliders of canvas disappear off the page (next to the tools on LHS of screen)

    see the vid for replication.

Any tips much appreciated- I cant use this software without this option.

Im on an ipad pro 4th gen running iOS 16.6

PS I upgraded to the newest 17.3 iOS today,

    and deleted Photo and reinstalled

Same problem different file, in addition to Lags, and non saves.

Should this program still be in BETA?

I really want to like this program.

    Thanks

  7. Hi Folks, One question to add to this conversation is the capacity to manipulate the individual pixel layers/ selections. In the video example this would mean the sandstone could be given the appearance of being photographed from a different angle.  The capacity to transform a selection is pretty important to me to get some sense of perspective in photo montage works. Is there a capacity to manipulate selections/layers like the Edit>Transform>options in photoshop?

    Thanks

I think many of the posts here miss the way live trace is used mostly today - what's needed is a replacement for Illustrator's Live Trace tool. You'd never want to use this for photos as firstly illustrator isn't for this, and secondly if you want that effect you'd be better off using photoshop (posterise tool etc). The Live Trace tool is either likely to be used for tracing previous artwork when neither the vector file nor a lot of time is available. Secondly, and probably the biggest reason why Affinity NEEDS to include this tool, is for illustrators and designers scanning in their artwork. This includes people like my wife who illustrates childrens books, and all the designers out there doing hand drawn lettering, elements etc. We know that is almost everyone at the moment, and I'm really shocked this isn't seen as a bigger need. Until Affinity has a live trace feature I will still need Illustrator and I don't want to be using two programs. I'd rather jump ship when it can be a replacement, and that certainly isn't yet.

Me too here! When Affinity can trace I will buy, until then Ill keep using Illustrator and hold off on my el capitan upgrade…..Affinity we are waiting, Thanks for your work, J
