    Affinity Publisher (1.7) Launch Announcement

I am very happy there will be an iPad version of affinity publisher as well coming next year. I am so happy for no more need for adobe. I am also royally shocked at the workflow improvement as seen in the live keynote. That is serious workflow efficiency. In-App advanced adjustments on the page in preview mode. Thanks again to the Serif Team.

    Affinity Publisher (1.7) Launch Announcement

For my needs, launching the Publisher app is well timed. Now I don't need to rely on adobe subscription software at all. I can now create all the graphics, ebooks, and artwork for my Wholistic Artist LLC business without adobe. Yahoo! Thank you Serif Team for creating these apps, they feel way more intuitive and less mangled than photoshop, illustrator & indesign.
  3. @Old Bruce Thank you for providing more clear instructions. That solution fixed the app image problem. It also fixed the same problem on a few of my other apps as well. To every one else reading this, no further help is needed. Problem solved.
  4. For some reason, the preview icon for Affinity Photo is not correct. I move the application to the Mac OS X dock and the image is replaced with a generic finder app icon. I have attached two screen capture images to show what I mean. I even deleted the plist file and also did a fresh re-instrall from the mac app store. I do not know what to do to fix this problem.
  5. I tried both options. For some reason my mac will not allow me to do the second option. Even with CMD+Delete keys. The first option doesn't work either. @Dan C
  6. Glad you got an answer. Have a nice a day @doomy.
  7. The Affinity Team has no plans to make an after effects alternative. They are strictly focusing Photo, Designer and Publisher. They may also be working an adobe Bridge alternative, but don't quote me on it. As for after effects alternatives, I know at least one open source alternative, called "Natron" If you happen to be looking for an alternative video editor as well, there is an open source software for that as well, here: "Open Shot" If you have any other questions, just tag me and I will respond back asap.

Affinity Designer for macOS - 1.6.1

Thanks @MEB for the update. I am definitely very patient with this software. I am very happy you guys decided to create the Affinity software trio. Many graphic designers and illustrators (myself included) are jumping for joy that we won't have to rely on Adobe anymore, especially when you guys belt out features that bring us closer to breaking the Adobe monopoly. Keep the hard work and earning more awards for your software. Well worth all the hard work you guys do for us.
  9. How many of you would be interested in including AppleScript functionality for Batch processing in Photo, Basic Template Creation is Designer and automated Catalogue/Book Creation in Publisher? The key is to automate repetitive tasks and let you focus more on the finer details on creative work? I am a bit of an AppleScript fanatic and like to automate certain things to free up my mind for the refining process of creative work. Adobe used to have AppleScript functionality built-in to their design apps (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) before, but now I am not so sure since they went and made Creative Cloud (I don't like subscription software). The intention of this proposed feature is only to automate the basic repetitive tasks for batch work and creating ready-made template designs in fewer steps and free up the creative mind for higher level work such as refinement of a project; in a smaller phrase to be more efficient with your time.
  10. @Patrick Connor Thank you Affinity Team for creating a strong graphic design trio competitor to adobe creative cloud. i am going through the tutorials for Publisher and love how simple they all are to follow. This UI is way better than InDesign. I was college for graphic design before you guys were able to launch the retail version of Affinity Designer and Photo. The software classes I was taking didn't help to simplify taking on the adobe creative suite, at least the portion I would be using the most. Your UI's are way better organized and I didn't have an artistic heart attack looking at them. Thank you for all your efforts, you are making this creative very happy with your work. I love being a multi-disciplinarian and your software will allow me to do that without UI shock.
  11. Thank you MEB, didn't know that was what I needed to do. Thanks for the help.
  12. For some reason the brush cursor shows a square brush with rounded corners. How do I change that back to a rounded brush with no square sides? I tried using google to find the answer, and only got photoshop help files and nothing else related to this problem.

    Affinity Publisher - Sneak Preview

Definitely eager to see the APub Beta. I would definitely want to not have to rely on Adobe Subscription Software. Adobe has outsourced way too freaking much of their business. The Serif crew work together like an actual team. Adobe staff compete with each other causing all manner of irritation. Thank you Serif for creating a trio of true competitors to the Adobe majority monopoly. As a freelancer I will definitely have more control over which software I use. Your software is a very warm welcome, especially for me starting out and building my artistic skills with digital painting and creating. If any one asks, no I do not have a portfolio of work to share (yet!). I am using the free time I have to build up my concept art/illustration skills so I could (in say 2 - 3 years) start going full time in the creative field.
  14. I checked the available options for the Stock Panel in Affinity Photo and can only see "shutter stock" as available. It would be wonderful if there were many more than just one option. One addition I would like is for Story Blocks images database to be included as well. Here is the link to Story Blocks: https://www.storyblocks.com/stock-image I have included an attachment of the Stock Panel to show you what I am referring to. If anyone else has requests for image databases to be included, please list them here to avoid unnecessary duplicate threads expanding on this feature.

    Affinity Publisher - Sneak Preview

I know I am late to the party on automation, but I would like to thank Serif for including javascript in a further future release. However, automation is still new to me. I just started learning AppleScript and (even though I can be a quick study) it is a pain sometimes since I am working with a heavily outdated AppleScript textbook made by apple and near complete lack of updated resources in the public domain. Even though I now know a wide range of modern mac-native apps have an AppleScript library to work with, even the popular note taking app Evernote. I am glad that javascript is the more widely used and documented scripting language there is and it seems to be more structurally straightforward than than the english-like apple script.
  16. Even though it will be hobby, I do intend to be a multimedia powerhouse on an iMac Pro, with Affinity Trio being for digital art and graphic design work. 5 to 10 years ago, trying to be a one man multimedia production was way out of most price ranges. From my earliest childhood memories to now, the cost for quality software and hardware has dropped precipitously. I immensely grateful Serif decided to launch the Affinity software lab to create these applications.
  17. Thank you for sharing this @AffinityAppMan ! After I get through being well developed with traditional drawing, I am going to solely use the affinity photo, designer, and publisher. This is a perfect complement until Serif makes their own DAM. I am really glad you shared this tool.
  18. Also, another image reference would be pixabay.com free photo images. The only way there is going to be an expansion of this feature is if everyone pushes for it in the next update or two in the affinity timeline.

    Affinity Publisher - Sneak Preview

Hehe, Adobe is getting mighty nervous. When the Affinity Suite reaches its full potential through updates, the majority of graphic designers and digital artists will probably shift over and put a noticeable dent in Adobe's profits for creative cloud. I don't like paying for software I don't use. The only separate plan Adobe has is for photographers, not for graphic designers. I got both Workbooks on my desk right now. Since Digital art is a hobby right now, I am not required to use photoshop. Thank to the Serif Team I can export as a photoshop file when I decide to do digital art full time.

    Affinity Photo Workbook

I just got my copy of the book today, well packaged. And this time I did not have any theft issues that happened with the Affinity Designer workbook. I am very happy it came so quickly. Thank you Affinity Serif Staff for making a true competitor to the adobe suite. I am going to go through the whole book and experience just how far I can push this software. These workbooks are better organized than the Adobe Classroom books I went through in college.

    Affinity Publisher - Sneak Preview

Thank you Serif for making these applications! The monthly subscription Adobe has is a serious drain. That and the "bugginess" of the apps. This soon to be complete trio will be all I need for my creative hobby. I don't like paying for apps I will never use. Adobe apps get expensive really fast. The 12 month contract lock in adobe has is also financially and practically a PITA. Thanks again for bringing in high quality challengers to the market. @TonyB
  22. I don't mind learning scripting languages. Javascript tutorials are easy to find. After searching, so is python. Codeschool.com and Codecademy.com are two good resources to learn either. These are what I will use.
  23. This is definitely a great questions to ask. I know plenty of sites I could learn Javascript from.
  24. I love the copy of the Affinity Designer Workbook I paid for and makes me very confident as a lay user. Especially with the natural progression and clear instructions it has. Down to graphic layouts of the keyboard short cuts. Are you guys (affinity staff) planning to do two more "Work Books"? One for Photo and one for Publisher? That would be a very wonderful situation to be in for graphic designers. A complete library of the affinity apps as desk references would make our jobs easier. I understand Publisher is going to take a while, but when it does I will be thoroughly grateful. I am most concerned about getting Workbook for Photo at this point. I can wait for publisher. I used to be trained to use Adobe InDesign back in college, so I know the challenges you face for Publisher. Are you guys open to making Workbooks for Affinity Photo & Publisher as well?
