I have a sports photo that i am trying to cut out the player. I then wish to take the player that i cut out and place it on a poster. What's the way to do this?

I haven't purchased the Affinity application just yet. I am looking to create a couple of sports posters by creating a layer of an action shot, and then put it on a created background, which application would suit me the best? The Affinity Designer or the Affinity Photo. Thanks in advance.
