  1. It's been two days now I've been trying to open my files. Opening does no longer work. Same with the iPad version, which coincidentally is also 1.8. Same with Affinity Photo. Some files do, some no longer do. But I need to open these files. It gets stuck loading forever. Nothing happens. I've left it for up to two hours to see if it would change. It doesn't. There is no feedback either. I tried copying the file, renaming it, nothing. Please make Affinity Designer reliable. I always have to deal with issues Loading, Saving, or simply not being able to save (like on the iPad, launch-day issue still not resolved). It's critical to get these operations right.
  2. Since there is no update on this issue, I'd like to necro bump this. The whole UI is too dark to have such bright surface surrounding the document. Please let us toggle a full dark mode or something while using Artboards! The current workaround is to draw a huge rectangle, colour it dark grey, and then lock it so I can't accidentally click it. It just feels odd I gotta extend the UI's theme manually.
  3. Hey guys! Once again I am here with a few thoughts on UI and workflow :) Hopefully some of them can make it into the app. 1.2 saves me so much more time. Focus Character window when editing a field in it So sometimes I need to open up the Character window. This window starts up as without a focus. Usually what happens is that I select the contents on a field like Tracking, start typing the number I need, to realize that clicking the field did not activate the focus on the window, therefore I am instead changing the Opacity of the layer as opposed of this field's value. I need to then undo, click the window, then actually type the value. I make this mistake all the time. The way to replicate this, would be to: Edit a text layer Open the Character window Click, drag (to select) and release on a field, like Tracking. The field will be selected, but not the window. Window will be selected if you click on the field though. Save as... Relative to document I think it would make sense that Save as... starting directory is the same as the current directory? I usually need to duplicate documents and Save as... takes me to some random other directory I once was. Maybe this behavior could be a setting? cmd + enter to submit window Whenever I create a new document, I set the dimensions, then I try to press Enter multiple times, cmd + Enter, other combinations to find out if there is a way to submit the Window and get started. It'd be nice if windows like these, or the Export window sheet, would take cmd + Enter as a "Submit" or "Accept" or whatever the "move forward" button is :P New from clipboard You guys actually have this feature on Affinity Photo! Often I have a group I'd like to take to a new document. It'd be nice if Affinity could detect if it's a picture, or an Affinity object, and prepare a new document for it so I can more easily export it or continue working on it. One of the ways I use this is whenever I need to shrink a document down to the dimensions of some objects. Commit field if I submit a window In example, when you change the dimensions of the PNG you are exporting using the File > Export... menu, if you forget to press enter and simply go straight to the Export button, your changes will not commit. I realized this after exporting some files with super high resolutions and couldn't figure out why on the very beginning. If Matte is White, then make it White Once you have a slice ready, and say you change the export format of that slice from PNG (default) to JPEG, the Matte will automatically change from transparent to White. However, in reality, this actually doesn't occur. You need to manually open the Matte menu and set it to white. Otherwise you will have whatever used to be transparent, in color black. This really confused me for weeks when trying to use the export tool. So I think it's great that it defaults to white when transparency isn't supported by the file type, but make sure once it is exporting, to use white, not black! :P (which I guess it's the "unset" color, internally). I guess that's all the suggestions I got for now. Keep up the good work!
  4. Hey all! As always I'd like to thank your continuous support and updates put into Affinity Designer. It is truly starting to become a flawless experience. There is one thing that I struggle with every day though. I open many different files daily, scattered in different directories, so I use Spotlight to open all my files. Two improvements I'd love to see are: .afdesign are treated as Other, instead of Images. So actual images, websites and other files get priority before it, and .afdesign files get mixed up with "other" files I don't care about. It'd be great if OS X considered .afdesign as Image instead, like .psd - is this something the OS allows you to do? I know Apple can be quite close sometimes often. Photoshop did this one rare thing well, which was filling up the "Notes" section of the Spotlight information of the file with all the text found in the document. This is strange but Photoshop actually nailed that, because I could freely search a file for "what I remembered it had inside" as opposed to remembering the exact words that made up the filename. This could really improve my workflow, and it's safe to assume at least some other people too :). Hope you sometime have time to implement these. I'd be super thankful for it. Cheers! :D P.S: I am aware that I can reorder File Type Priority on Spotlight, but when I don't wanna search for .afdesign, I don't want "Other" to clutter the whole search. It beats the purpose of Spotlight xP
  5. Hi there! First off, scratch the Close windows with Escape key — I seem to have always been loosing focus before I pressed Escape. My fault. Second — COOL! I just found how to get the beta. Will be checking it out! Thanks!
  6. Hello guys! Thank you again for the amazing piece of software you have built. I can't believe I am saying this but except for very minor things on which Photoshop is crucial, I haven't been using it almost ever since I got Affinity Designer. Ah, what a nice change of pace! I wanted to share with you some feature requests / bugs out of my use of Affinity. .afdesign as Image Whenever you search with Spotlight, it is interesting how I do see a preview, but it's not recognized as an "Image" by Spotlight search, but instead as "Other". Which is naturally bad because I put "Images" as the highest priority result kind, and Other at the bottom because I never care about Other. Except for Affinity files, which are treated as "Other" instead of "Image" like JPEG, PNG, or even PSD. I don't know if this is something broken on my end or it just wasn't meant to be. But I'd love to see .afdesign files be treated and considered as images by Finder (All my files) and Spotlight! Keyboard navigation on Open dialog So every time I am already working on an open document, and then I go to the Open dialog, I spend a few keystrokes in trying to move the cursor around to navigate through the folders with no success. Then I remember arrow keys, cmd + down, etc... Won't work on the Open dialog if a document is already opened. Instead, when I close, I find my whole layout destroyed because I've been nudging items around with the arrow keys when I thought I was surfing folders on the Open dialog :P. It'd be great to be able to surf the directories in Open dialog with keyboard input, and without affecting the document. "Focus"! Pixel perfect Still on my list. On UI design, a 0.5 pixel snapping when creating / moving / resizing is unacceptable. Black dropdown lists More often than not, when I click a dropdown like the Font size on the top, I get a black dropdown. All the values seem to be there as I can click them and the size change, but it's very odd. It's like if the dropdown had black background and black font. Unclickable layers Yeap. Still getting the issue with layers becoming unclickable, forcing me to close and open a document (or creating a temporary duplicate if I wasn't intending to save changes). I heard you were working on this so just adding it here for completion :P. Pixel view mode not always pixel view mode So whenever you activate Pixel view mode and you zoom in to 200%, it still won't work. You have to zoom in past 200%, then zoom back to 200%, repeat the process a few times, until it actually starts showing everything as pixels instead of smooth edges at 200% zoom (which is great, but sometimes you need to work as it will be exported :P). I think this is a glitch. Unclear active tab Minor issue, but nearly 100% of times I click the wrong tab when trying to switch to the other document, because the brightest tab is the "inactive" tab, and the darkest tab is the "active" tab. Which is confusing, at least to me. But the UI is dark enough so I can see the rock and the hard place. Just pointing it out though. Close windows with Escape key Once I am done changing a font property on the Font dialog, I'd love it if I could close it using Esc instead of taking my cursor all the way to the Red closing button on the window. I open dialogs often so it becomes a hassle. That's all! Once again, thanks for the amazing piece of software. Loving it more every day.
  7. Hey there! I've seen a lot of posts regarding this, but hey, let me put it from my perspective. Affinity Designer is the fastest workflow I ever had, but gets really slowed down by the fact that it insists on not using round, natural numbers for coordinates and sizes. It's fine for drawing, but for UI design, it is just a chore of every 1 minute going back to what you just did, adjusting the additional 0.3 on this coordinate, remove the 0.5 on that width, etc... The micromanagement is killing me. I've followed the guides, read all about the snapping, how it works, and so on. But I still get these floating point values on everything I move and create. It just plain doesn't works. If this mode cannot be accomplished through existing settings, how about a "Pixel perfect" checkbox on the Snap manager, so that all coordinates of new objects, or existing ones without floating point, remain like such until I force them out? Basically, not letting objects use floating point until I force them to. I have read reasons why devs find this like a grey area, but maybe this illustrated another solution, or something closer to it. I don't remember how Photoshop handled this (aww, already forgetting it!) but this was never an issue out of the other million issues it did have. Cheers! :)
  8. Hi there! I tried the Beta, and I was glad to find an App that could potentially set me free from Photoshop. There were some minor hiccups, although the one that was a deal breaker for me was the fact that different regions were rendering on screen at different times when I panned around, zoomed around, or moved big objects around. We are talking of 1200x800 size documents, fairly small if you think about it. Has this been corrected in the final version? It made me very dizzy to see things changing at different speeds across the document. I'd love to use Affinity, but not like that :P I've tried the beta, constantly updating until the last week you guys took it off to put it up for purchase. I believe I tried the latest stuff. Anyways, I would appreciate your response. I run a 27' iMac (2012), with Mavericks back then (Yosemite now). Cheers!
