In general, handling with curves is really superb in the Glyphs.app (www.glyphsapp.com). Deleting of needless points with keeping the basic shape is a great feature, as well as selecting handle's point and moving it with keyboard directional keys. This improves the precision of designing to another level. You can also inspire yourself in the FontLab IV Preview (http://www.fontlab.com/font-editor/fontlab-vi/) -
As a type designer and graphic designer I would appreciate this option too, it is far easier to access glyphs which are not available on keyboard.
