I’ve been complaining about this since v1 APhoto was first released! The opacity setting has never worked and using the flow setting is not really a satisfactory alternative.

Definitely would be helpful, 123456789%. I'm admittedly a bit retentive, but it seems like this would have been included when creating the function.
Also, would love to see this available in its own window/palette so it could remain visible for those who keep an eye on such things.
Still ... glad it's been added!

    MISSING for me.
Designer - Trace tool is key. 99% of my Illustrator work and a big reason why I'm still in Adobe land is Tracing my bitmapped art drawn in Sketchbook on iPad.
Photos - High res when you make a photo higher res. In other words smoothing like Photoshop.  Smart select is about 50% useful in Photoshop. Sky selector I've used once for a cover of a magazine and it was good.
Publisher - What can I say. It still reminds me of SwiftPublisher or some other $9 app.  YES it's way way better than those.  But it's just not as refined as InDesign.  I'd like to move some pallets around and make it more like my InDesign placements.  I use the character pallet a lot with horizontal scale for text so things fit easily and this feature in InDesign is up top, Publisher is on a side pallet. Not bad.. I feel like I'm whining and could get used to it.  I've just started looking at it and forget what other things I didn't like in Publisher 1 that made me stick to Adobe.

For me in addition to the original post:
trace tool better gradient controls it was hard to reuse gradients... Like if I make a layer effect gradient I want to use elsewhere what now? Why doesn't this work like color? Why are layer and fill color/gradients not the same?  Paint format tool like in google docs so I copy text fonts/styles quickly and reapply in 1 click.. I'm still surprised we don't have symmetry tools/rulers that doesn't sound that hard to implement....

I feel overall Publisher upgrades were nice. Designer upgrades so-so.. Photo not that noticeable...

I’m sitting here stunned that the Designer on iPad is STILL limited to a single decimal place. What… the… actual… It is one of those “seems small but is massive to me” and though I’m still looking at the new stuff this actually angers me a bit.

A few others that are of interest to me:
Style picker tool Word count Much improved boolean operations More than one FX of a single type applied to the same object (for example, you can apply multiple shadows to the same object) Cross-app sharing of assets, pallets, etc. Totally revamped new document window (that finally works in my preferred full screen mode)

@pixelstuff I had a couple of those on my list as well.
Blend tool was a big hope for this version as well.
The first thing I checked was to see if the default save as location was saved per file instead of changing after each file is opened. I didnt have too much hope as the thread never got attention from affinity, but it seems like such an obvious workflow improvement for anyone that works professionally with affinity and multiple clients.

Sad to say, but if I had stayed waiting for this development to happen, I would be living on the streets.
Luckily I'm back in advertising using tools that do have Blend tool (not that I'm happy about returning to POS conglomerates).
So, what was the talk about "great things going to happen"? Looks to me this project is in limbo.

can you please look in this too @Chris B, it seems this won't progress until some of the staff members are involved

it is a feature dearly needed by many creative artists and professionals alike

myself I am waiting for this to be implemented into affinity designer since I first purchased it in 2018, were speaking five years now

and no, there are no other tools within the affinity software family that could emulate this feature

either way, if serif is not able or willing to supply its users with some of the most essential tools please say so, because there is no need to keep up false hopes if there is no intention whatsoever

    best regards

I ask for this tool since the beta period for version 1.0.
So, it goes back to 2014. That means that I have been asking for this tool for about 9 years now.
It was one of the tools that I used often, when I used FreeHand. And it was amazing. There are lots of things that can be acheived with this type of tool
I still have hope to see it implemented.
And I know that, is Serif implements it, it will make it excellent. Much better that in Illustrator or CorelDraw.
    Come on, Serif!!!!
Like Picard says... MAKE IT SO.

I’ll add my $0.02, largely echoing what’s already been said here and on other threads dating back quite a while:
The lack of a blend tool is a massive disappointment, and one of the basics I miss daily.
Sure, it can be achieved with other software and copy/pasted or imported, but that hurts Affinity achieve the perception of professional software they are aiming for today.
Having a minuscule knowledge of programming (used to edit PostScript files by hand in the previous millennia...) it does seem that adding this feature really wouldn’t be that difficult. Maybe the difficulty is greater than I imagine, and perhaps it’s already been addressed. But seeing that this was included in Illustrator since ~1996—and is so important to a professional workflow—I can’t see why this remains unobtainium in the Affinity suite.
Here's hoping this can doesn’t get kicked further down the road.

Why do I have to lift the paint brush and start again to see any build up of colour density? A 10% opacity paint brush should build up density as you keep brushing that same spot (like it does in PhotoShop) The tool is called a PAINT BRUSH how about it behaves like one rather than a 1980's Atari ST kids painting app?

You really want either the current or both behaviours. I assume that the current behaviour was intended to favour the application of subtle effects without accidentally over doing them with an overlapping stroke. For instance, if you want to brush in some effect with consistent translucent opacity, the current behaviour prevents overlapping strokes from doubling that opacity.
To me, this makes much more sense as a safe and usable default if there is no option for any other behaviour. That said, there probably should be a tick-box option on the context bar to enable over-painting in one stroke for times when it is desirable. I played with the settings a little bit, but flow appears not to be a substitute for this.

I would like to see this tool too. Even in more basic form without the AI for now (which possibly be upgraded later).
Of course AI would be a great feature but Im afraid its not possible in this conditions. Serif doesn't have the manpower of Adobe. But.. on the other side, implementing an AI would be a great strategy to jump the Affinity popularity. It has to be done sooner or later anyway (if we dont want the Affinity to stay behind all others in the near future).

True. There are even some nice open-source bitmap tracers, so its not a problem with know-how. As you said its a basic feature for vector software, so Im not sure why devs don't want to add this.

Vector tracing has been done since the 16 bit days. It's not rocket science. Serif pretending like it would take an army to implement a feature that other packages have had for over 30 years is just bizarre. No line art tool is complete without a bitmap vector tracing tool. It should have been in version 1. The community was very vocal about it, they chose to ignore us, charge for a version 2 upgrade and give us vector flood fill? Are you kidding me?

Not quite exactly - this converts the end points to "sharp" ones, effectively deleting the control points, rather than adjusting the control points without removing them.
It's a little thing, but it is a thing.
It also doesn't provide for other functionality such as the bisection feature I listed.

Please respect the context in the context menu for nodes.
If the node type is Sharp, then the command "Convert to Sharp" should not be enabled, because it does not make sense and choosing the command will do nothing - therefore the item should be disabled.

If the node type is Smooth, then the command "Convert to Smooth" should not be enabled, because it does not make sense and choosing the command will do nothing - therefore the item should be disabled.

    Likewise for Smart.
Commands for manipulating individual Nodes (Convert to ...) could be separated by a delimiter from commands for manipulating with the Curve.
Although it is enough to press Delete to delete the selected Node, the Delete Node item in the context menu would also be useful.

I concur with all those suggestions.
I would also like to add that “Split curve after node” could probably be disabled when the last node of the curve is selected (unless that has some specific function that I’m unaware of).
Note: I don’t think this is the first time these things have been suggested, but I can’t be bothered to look for the previous suggestions (did a quick search  but couldn't find them).

I would also like to see one added to the segments between nodes, with options like straighten (adjust the control points of the nodes on either side such that they remain smooth nodes but the segment is straight) and bisect (add one or more nodes along that segment which are evenly spaced at perfect intervals along the segment's length).

No Tablet, laptop is in shell mode so no trackpad, mouse wheel is assigned another action. What does everyone working with text and a layout tool have? Right, a keyboard. If only one could make use of that easily...
My point is, there is a proven, widely used command for that specific use case around for decades in the dominant tools for designers. Just not in affinity. Why? I'm not working as a designer anymore, but when I work in publisher for example, 20 years of using Quark, Indesign etc. WITH this command lets you do exactly that automatically. Every time my Finger finds the alt key and it does not work as described makes me roll my eyes at this. Some things are so little to implement but have such a huge impact on proven and standarized workflows.

    Hello
Thank you every one for your answers.
I know about what you say, but I think a solution with one key is better.
I do very often the sequence :  zoom - typing texte - pan - continuing typing. With your solution I have to press ESC -  press V - press spacebar to pan - double clic to re-enter the text frame for typing.
So having a one key fast solution for panning is better. Again the ALT key as InDesign is a good way : press ALT - Pan - release ALT - continuing typing.
