  1. @spsorrel: What you just showed is far from beeing an adequate equivalent to an "offset path" function (or however you might name it) like, for example, Illustrator has it. In some situations you need an editable copy of path with a defined offset (positive or negative) from the original path. For example in signmaking business (where I come from), to have a cutting path for stickers and that is just one example. In fact, at work ( where I use Illustrator) I need this every day. As a home solution Affinity is a good app, but there are still some basics missing for professional use, regarding on what you have to do with it. Yes, there are "workarounds" for most issues but they are not always efficient. Despite that, Affinity Apps are great and they are constantly improving and implementing great features. Adobe killed Freehand nearly 2 decades ago and I am still missing some of it’s great features, even if they implemented a few of them into Illustrator over the years... Considering that, Affinty did a great job in a short period of time!
  2. Snapping guides to nodes is a thing that I do in Illustrator (and before that Freehand) everyday and I think it is an essential tool for a software like AD and I really miss it. It should just work like in Illustrator and Freehand - Snap the guide to the node if you are near enough. If they add this to AD, nearly all my whishes are fullfilled regarding tools I am missing in AD. Maybe a cut tool...
  3. Nearly one year later, I still thing this would be great functions to be implemented... ;-) Anyway, since one year, a lot of improvements have been made to tihs great piece of software and I am looking forward to see where we are in one year from now!
  4. I already posted this in the questions-section, but as there seems no solution to this I will just post it again here as a feature request: If I place a TIFF-Image without scaling it, it will not be placed in it’s original dimensions but scaled to fit the document’s DPI. For example: If I have an Image with 10x10 cm at 1000 dpi and place it in an AD document with the document resolution set to 200 dpi the image will be placed in a size of 50x50 cm to fit the document resolution. I think, it should be the other way (or at lest you should be able to toggle this behaviour). Normaly, placing an image in a document, I would like to preserve it’s original dimensions. Regardless, which dpi it would have after that. Any other DTP-Software I know behaves this way. For example: If I place a 10x10 cm TIFF in Illustrator, it will always be this size by default. Adjusting the document dpi to the dpi of the image can’t be the solution. What, if you have different Images with different dpi that you would like to place in their original dimensions in one AD-document? P.S.: I just did some testing with other import-formats. TIFF, JPG and PSD all behave this way, EPS results in different dimensions but still not the original dimensions and PDF was the only file-format resulting in a 10x10cm image being placed in exactly this dimensions regardless of the dpi. At least the EPS should be sized to it’s bounding-box dimensions by default, don’t you think so?
  5. I want to place a scanned TIFF-Image in it’s original dimensions (4x4 cm). AD places it in a much bigger size. Of course I could resize it to it original size in AD, but this is not really how it should be, right? InDesign, Illustrator, Freehand,... All these programms can place images without changing their dimensions. Maybe I could adjust the document resolution to the resoulution of the scanned TIFF, but this would also only be a workaround. And what, if I have images with different DPI that I want to place in their original dimensions?
  6. Is there a way to access an object pasted inside? I know, I can access it in the layers palette but I was searching for an easy way like Freehand had it. The Paste inside function works pretty much like Freehand did, what I like very much, but in Freehand, you could "uncut" it from inside (I only have the german version, so I can’t say what this funtions was called in english). You also could ALT-Click an object pasted inside and (for example) easily move or resize it...
  7. There should be a keybord-shortcut for selecting single paths from a complex combined object. In Freehand or Illustrator for exaple, you can ALT-Click a path within an object to just select this path and (for example) move it. I explained the problem here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/16658-partial-selection-of-a-combined-object/
  8. Thank you. I already helped myself with this kind of workarounds before. I was just hoping, there would be an easy and quick solution. I think subselecting a path within a shape is essential for a software like AD. For example: If I just would like to move one path of a shape just a few milimeters and leave the rest in place, these workarounds would be really anoying. In Freehand or Illustrator I would just ALT-Click the path and move it. I use AD at home and it is good enough for this. But using it at work all day long would not be practicable for me right now. There are still a lot of essential things missing that I need nearly every day... Not just subselecting... (Distort-Tool, Offset-Path-Tool like Illustrator, Text Styles, Arrowheads, visual placing of tabstops, Knife-Tool, just to mention a few...)
  9. A Screenshot for clarification... Let’s say I would like to just select path 1 and delete it from the object to have this area black. And then I would like to select path 2 and duplicate it to give this area an other colour. In Freehand or Illustrator I could easily use ALT to only subselect these paths from the object. Isn’t this possible in AD or am I just missing something?
  10. Thanks very much. Just found it by myself, trying out half of my keyboard... :)
  11. In Freehand (and I think, Illustrator behaves the same way) I can ALT-Click a part of an combined object (the inner path of an "O" that has been converted to curves for example) and only select this part of the object to modify, duplicate or whatever... Is there a way to do so in AD, too?
  12. Think of an object where the strokes have been expanded. A circle for example, fill colour (the expanded stroke) is black. Clicking inside the empy circle (remember: it’s only expanded strokes) should let me select the object visible behind this circle (a red filled rectangle, for example) in my logic. Freehand an Illustrator do behave this way. In AD this will always select the upper object (unless I lock it, for example). Or is there a way to change this behaviour?
  13. a simple DXF/DWG export would indeed be a nice feature. At work in a signmaking/printing company (using Illustrator) I often need these formats as an exchange format for Laser-Cutters and CNC-Milling. Asking the producers of these machines to support other formats is a nice thought, but I don’t think that they are able to react as spontanious to user requests as serif seems to be able... In fact, a company that listens to user request (like serif) is very, very rare! I don’t think producers of Lasers and Milling machines have PDF or SVG Support on top of their To-Do-List...
  14. Well, looks a lot less like advertising now... ...removing the amazon-link to your books afterwards
  15. Is this thread really about adressing some strange translations or is it about advertising your books?
  16. Part of my workflow in Freehand is draging guides onto anchorpoints. When "snap to point" is activated in Freehand the guides perfectly snap to the anchorpoints. To do so in AD it would be necessary, to be able to drag guides frome the ruler while in node tool. Actually, this is not possible, but maybe it would be a nice option for future updates... Speaking about guides, another nice thing, that I like in Freehand and that would be great to see implemented in AD, ist the possibility to convert any shape to guides. And one last thing: Congratulations for the latest update! It was one more big step forward and I can’t wait to see the next bunch of cool functions implemented in your already great piece of software!
  17. One more thing... Converting objects to guides (again one of my beloved Freehand-Features) is not possible, right?
  18. Yes, I have already tried pulling guides while being in the node tool. A pitty, that it does not work there... It has been part of my workflow in nearly 20 years of Freehand usage and in this case (and some others) it is hard for me, not being able to perform this task. Affinity Designer is really great an much easier to use (for me, as a Freehand-User) than Illustrator, but there are still some important things missing for me (Some of them being implemented in the next update! Yeeeeeeah!) :-)
  19. Is it possible to activate snapping for guides to anchorpoints. In Freehand, I often drag guides from the ruler onto an anchorpoint of an object and it magnetically snaps to the point. This seems not to work in Affinity Designer.
