Thanks for this guys. In this instance I've just used transparency tool in Designer mode of Publisher. But I can see, either will work. I think I had too much red wine last night!!

The best approach might depend on your images and which application you are using but, in Designer, for instance, the Transparency Tool will probably do what you need from how I understand your requirements.

There isn't a feathering command as such but there is a really easy way of doing it. Select the photo, draw a rectangle (must have a fill (any) I think) slightly in from the photo. In the layers panel select the rectangle and right click Mask to Below. Then expand the masked object in the Layer panel and select the rectangle mask. Add a Layer Effect Gaussian Blur and move the slider roughly to the middle. It sounds a bit messy but it's very easy once you've done a few and it gives good fading with a lot of non-destructive control.

    Hi Rogue,
There's no ETA yet sorry. It depends on how development goes.

    Hi TheRogue,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
There will be iOS versions of both Photo and Designer (full apps).
Here's sneak peaks of Designer and Photo running on the iPad.

    Hi Steve,

Just make sure that you are using the same Apple ID as you use for your old MBP:

You should then be able to download/install your purchases from the 'Purchased' tab in the App Store.

    Paul.  ;)

According to Apple, you can install Affinity Designer or Photo on any computer you own or have under control for your personal use. Simply download another copy of the application to your new device, and you are good to go …  :)

I had this trouble. It took me three or four attempts each at upgrading Designer and Photo. Even then it was a far from smooth trouble free process. But all good now.

I'm using mid 2012 (Retina) MacBook Pro with 16gb and 750 gb flash drive.  Its fast!

When at home this is hooked up to Apple's 27" thunderbolt retina screen.

No performance issues at all. I just got Affinity Photo too!
